Yesterday, I went to help a friend do some repairs on his friend's newly purchased 1926 Touring T.
The engine started fairly easily, but I noticed the ammeter was not showing a charge with a fast idle.
The ammeter pegged when I did a jumper around the cutout to flash the field coils.
The generator terminal measured 26 DC Volts with my trusty...

The owner of the red Torpedo shown below sent me a batch of photos. I am giving serious consideration of buying it and I know it needs TLC. I am wondering about what to do about the large gap between the top and the top of the windshield. I am comparing it to the blue Torpedo, which many of you have seen before.

At the right price..... for a parade/driver car, it would be a good deal. An expert would need to assess how much of what is there is correct and if the car could be brought back to original configuration on some practical basis. At the right price, and assuming it is mechanically sound, I'd buy it and enjoy driving it.

This a a broad question, I know. Locally there is a very nice Model T Haywagon conversion. Looks well built and stored indoors. It has wood spokes, and a real period conversion kit for the tongue (not a hack.job). I’m going to try a chapter thread this year. We need to remember this is a club site and chapter activities are important. By sharing what we do maybe other chapters can get some fresh ideas.

I started this thread in January with hopes that we could all share what our chapters do throughout the year. It’s important to remember that the C in MTFCA stands for club. There is a fellow in the Model A club writing a book on Model A pickup beds. He contacted me about Model T pickup beds. Ford may have used true babbit for thrust washers at some point. But they used the pot metal too. Babbit is a family of alloys. Pot metal, likewise. Pot metal is generally less malleable than true babbit.

When using 3d printed parts there are some possible weaknesses you might run into.
Filament prints (the cheap extruded printer types) are porous so will not hold pressure, vacuum, or liquids.
This porosity also creates major issues when plating.

Before taking it apart, try decreasing the tension by loosening the jamb nut and rotating the motor an eighth of a turn at a time. I believe rotating it counter-clockwise decreases the tension.

If you can get ahold of an automotive engine valve catalog you could spend some time looking for something that matches. You could go with a larger diameter head and have it cut down along with longer stem.

Additionally was the one a slot headed screw?
Did all cars ship with the hook for the side curtains?

Don't remember the slotted screw, but could be.
As for the curtain hooks, Lang's sells new ones, and they have square holes.
The Parts Listing by Bruce Mc's CD encyl. lists 2 part numbers, T-7831 for 23-25 Curtain Hook on windshield bracket, and T-7832 Curtain hook on body, 15-27. But no pics of same.

It was indeed not a stock wide front spring.
Here is what it became after rebuild.
The front spring was replaced by a spring assembly with original spring leafs.
On the photos you can count 6 leafs but one small leaf is hidden by the support on the top and one short leaf at the bottom is added to fill up the support.

My late-style fan doesn't leak much oil, if any. I'm not sure why. (I don't fill it completely full of oil) Like most all old cars without positive crankcase ventilation, over miles of driving, the oil mist from the filler cap and throttle rod openings accumulates on underhood areas as a light film. If you drive on dirt roads, the film will...

The in-line fuel filter can be ditched with a new stainless steel tank. They are notorious for restricting flow on gravity feed systems like the T. Yours even appears to be fitted backwards to my eye. Usually the fuel is fed into the canister and then through the paper filter, before heading to the carby.

How is the flange that holds the posts where the planetary gears mount attached to the shaft? That would involve a lot more work to do. We’ve thought about...

Assuming no drawing available - or easier than using a drawing even if you had one:
before cutting, the original shaft can be set up and trued in the lathe. At this point the compound or taper attachment can be set up to trace the original taper to 0 deviation. This will be pretty much dead nuts for a setup.

Last post
Would try to remove metal at the mounting points or add washers if space is too wide. The shoes just need to contact the drum surface without striking the wood spokes.
The modern cast irons aren't normally a malleable iron, so heating will cause cracking and breakage, had that happen on a Ford cast tail lamp bracket I thought would bend with...

I just purchased this windshield at our swapmeet last night and I do not know what make or model. the number 120 appears on it several times. It is solid brass and measures 37 1/2 inches X17 1/2 inches. If nothing else I will use it for a wall hanger. Any thoughts? thanks, Bob.

I suggest posting it on the AACA.org What is it? and HCCA general forums. You don't need to be a member to set up a profile:

I installed an outside HV oil line on my 16 when I had to replace a cracked drum. Fast forward cranked it up and I got smoking engine. Was not before. Anyone one seen this? I removed the line and plugged the fittings, smoke gone. I plan to install a needle valve to reduce flow. Any input? Dan
Last post
Put two partial restrictive crimps in the copper line, using blunt clamp end Vice-Grips , to slow oil flow.
Stopped the excessive fouling of #1 plug.

I'm sure many of you can relate to this, but I have one car in particular that this is meaningful. Why?. because I built this car myself over a period of seven years. The moment is laying on a creeper and reminiscing where I bought every single nut and bolt, not just any nut and bolt, but genuine Ford and period correct. I'm wrapping up that...

I have a dog bone creeper. There was a guy about20 or more years ago selling them at Hershey. What makes them so nice is the wheels are about 6 dia. They have fenders? that cover the wheels, which makes the creeper look like a dog bone. When I attempt to get up, I push myself up onto a dog bone which makes getting up a lot easier. I have two of my...

I discovered that the left rear brake on my car does not contact the drum. I adjusted the rod as far as I could to no avail. I took the wheel off to inspect the brake shoes. Non-synchro gear boxes will shift with no grinding if handled correctly. You can actually shift one faster than most synchro boxes if you have good throttle control.
True statement Pat. As a retired truck driver, you only need to use the clutch taking off or at a complete stop. Whether a 10,13,15, or 18 speed, it's all throttle control and...

I’d say that’s a popular misconception. 65 years with horses of my own, rarely lost a shoe . . . if one comes off, the nails are almost always with the shoe because of the crimp. I’m sure there were plenty of road hazards then as now to cause a flat, but imagining the roads...

My first time installing AC brakes. I need to know the size of the extra long mounting bolts to attach the fixed portion of the brakes to the backing plates. From limited research it seems originally only one long bolt was provided for each side. However it appears from Larry Skidmore's ad photo, two were provided. One for the radius rod, one that...

Thanks for the help guys. After struggling to mount the passenger side, I see that I would have to gring down one eyelet on my cast earned radius rod and grind off a portion of a rib on my re housing for the band to correctly track the hub. I decided I'm not going to do that
I'll post a 'trade for'ad on in the classified.

Looking at carriers I have. Most have grooves where the thrust plates have dropped down and worn a place. What does that hurt in the long run? I know why it happened, only one pin holding the plate. See red circle in picture.
What if you added a second pin across from it to hold th plate from more rubbing? See yellow circle in same picture.

The reason for my question is it is getting harder to find carriers with out the usual wear groove. I have looked an about a dozen, all with different degrees of wear. Some are junk but others? As long as the wear is stopped from getting worse, you should be able to use the carrier.
On the other side of carrier could be harder to save. No where...
