What Is the Capacity of The Fuel Tank ?

What is the capacity of the fuel tank on a 1927 coupe?
Last post
I’m just guessing but aren’t all Model T gas tanks around 8-9 gallons for an average? An overall average? Maybe if it was in the 9 gallon range it was because in the T era people just didn’t drive as far and it was thought that was an adequate amount for the times. Food for thought!

I'd like to change the color of wire wheels on my '26 from pale yellow to black. Is that something that I can do by cleaning and prepping the wheel and using either spray paint or brush on Rustoleum.....or is it better to have them sandblasted & powder coated?
Last post
Just for interest, my grit blaster was also a powder coater. The two are a common combination. He would not take in previously powder coated stuff for blasting because if ti was done properly in the first place, it was an absolute bear to remove. He would blast items which were hit with a blowtorch to break down the old coating first.

The 2 posts in the back and patent number, 1970889, would indicate that its an ammeter . Label reads do not charge over 7 amps if only one bulb is charging. Then it has two dials for a left and the other right bulb

Patent number led to this battery charger. That meter is featured in the patent drawing too.

I have seen rims that had adapter pieces, kind of a half-round metal ring the fit into the clincher area, to make them straight-sided rims. It should not be a big deal to make up a set of these if you needed to. Just find the correct diameter of steel rod, that is a snug fit in the clincher bead, and then machine it flat on one side, and then roll...

From another discussion
A 09-25 T spindle. Measures 2.125 from bottom of kingpin shaft (not including bushing) to spindle centerline.
The 'improved car' (26-27) model T spindle; 2.75 from bottom of kingpin shaft (not including bushing) to spindle CL (spindle CL is 5/8 higher than the 09-25 spindle, producing a 'drop' of like amount.). So 5/8

What type of wire was used to run from the switch to the headlights themselves originally on a 1915? If you look closely in the parts book photos, that piece of wood is there from the factory. But, there’s only one. In the center.

What is the secrete method required to adjust Rocky Mountain Brakes?
My friend's 1924 Model T has them installed and when the brake handle is straight up the brakes are on and the Low pedal cannot go in half-way for a neutral position as the adjust bolt is just going over the edge ramp.
With the brake rods loosened, to move the handle forward...

A little trim of the bolt head can help.

Sort of typical what Ford would do to keep the transition of cars and their parts going to the next models.
Changes in the fender bracket holes in the frames, updating fender brackets, battery bracket holes, open car windshield brackets and etc The firewall updates also as we see here. I have a 24 Coupe and wandered about the extra hole too....

Yes John it does as the adapters with the plugs actually lowered the compression just by a little and cause a heat shunt. Second.., your manifold getting red is another byproduct of the plug gap/timing/or mixture not being in sync with the change. You have to use a long reach threaded plug with adapters to maximize the good effects. The adapters...

Reverse seems a little light on my 1927 coupe. How do I tell if it needs adjustment? If it does, how many licks should I start with on the first adjustment?
Last post
As long as the pedal doesn't hit the floorboard it should be okay. Do not try for a high pedal , that's adjusted too tight. The pedal should stop within maybe 1/2 - 1 from the floorboard. As to adjustments, take small steps, as others have mentioned. Half turn at a time.

Paul, the outer edge of the driven plate forms part of the brake drum surface. It needs to be the same diameter as the brake drum to perform at its best.

I took the train to Chicago to see Steve today. On my way to the hospital I passed the Billy Goat Tavern.
The tavern is famous for the Chicago Cubs curse and the following: Cheezborger Cheezborger. No fries, cheeps. No Pepsi, Coke.
Guess what I had for lunch.
I got to the hospital about 11 and Steve was sound asleep. He did not want to wake up. I...

26-27 fuel line curve

NY John T » Tue Nov 14, 2023 10:08 am
First post
Hi all,
I have a question about the shape of the fuel line for a 26-27 fuel line coming from the cowl tank. I've seen photos of this line bent in a upside down backwards question mark . Is there a logic for having this shape? Is the reason to give the gas more surface area before entering the carb? Or keeping it away from the heat of the exhaust...
Last post
My picture was taken from above so the bend looks sharper than it is. When viewed from the side, it looks just like the one in Fig. 561 and the two originals posted by Ken. A happy accident. When I bought the car the tube was bent into a loop. Jim Patrick

So it was engine pulling time.

So now the rebuild begins. This was a neat car that his dad had and was redone in the 50's. Could have been a lot worse. Starting to get good at this engine pulling thing. Ha!

I had a late oil tube I was using in my 1913 that came apart and did the same thing.

Hi all,
The field coils in my starter have a small amount of cloth that is loose. Can this be glued with something, like glyptol or other? They work fine otherwise. Thanks,
John
Last post
If the wrapping is still attached, I would secure the wrapping flat against the field coil with red Glyptal and when that dried, paint on another coat of Glyptal over the piece that was loose. Before doing this, make sure you clean the area to be repaired of all oil and dirt by flowing on Mineral Spirits and brushing in the direction of the...

Aware that the 26-27 hogshead accepts a magneto post assembly with a tapered half inch thread similar to the spark plug thread. The earlier magneto posts are held with three screws. What is the size of the opening for the earlier magneto posts?

Factory data about Model T

Hi!
On January it will be 100yrs since my T was produced.
Is there somewhere any data (like sales books or something) where it was sold for the first time? First owner name may be?
Last post
The only way possible if any at all is if your T has the original engine in it. Even if it does it would have to have any if not all the paperwork that came with the car. After a 100 years the short answer is no.

Hi Dan,
That is what I love about the Forum I get to learn something new every day.
John,
Kevin is correct about the early year regrind cams but if you have a Bosch timing cover distributer there is a thrust
adjusting screw in the cover for that. & the thrust washer kit is not expensive or hard to install most of the time.

Today started the irritating solving little issues.
Dual SR Winfields and worn linkage. Keeping in mind this Gallivan was assembled and restored in 1955 with a ton of miles since them. So lots of wear and slop in the throttle linkage. WE solved most of the wear in the linkage, and the last issue was the arm on the steering unit throttle shaft....

So I set the car up and used the compass method which I have used twice before over the years on different T's with great results. Its very hard to be confident you have the North part correct and I obviously didn't have it set right resulting in...

I don't understand all of that east-west compass stuff. The mag is dead. What little magnetism that is left is immaterial. Here is how I have been charging mags in the car for years with pretty much a 100% success rate.
1. Pull the transmission band door off so you can see the flywheel.
2. Turn the motor over until any two off the brass screws...

Clutch drum pullers are for sale.

Steve. The lift eyes are one of those elusive tools I also looked for, for years. When the single lift eye came up for sale I quickly bought it. I figured 1/2 of a set is better than nothing. One of these days I'll find the other one.
