Back when I was restoring my 23' touring, I was removing the upholstery from the seat springs, and found the original seat cushions were just upholstered over. I couldn't throw that original upholstery away, so they went to the shelf. Earlier today I was looking more closely at the cushions and found a steel tag crimped around the inside of the...

Slightly off topic.
Years ago, there was a box of numbered steel plates with two holes that were scrapped. I grabbed a few and eventually used one as a tie plate on my wooden tack strips behind the seat.
I wonder if someday some future person on this forum will ask about the numbers stamped on that plate.

I received a thank you from a member of staff for mentoring her through some professional development. For those unfamiliar with it, this is a Franklin Mint 1913 Ford T Touring, though the model looks a lot nicer than my real car. I think she nailed the gift! 20231220_201203.jpg

Hello.
I start looking for authentic clothing for men and women.
I was googling, but most all pictures show primarily female clothing from fashion magazines.
Can I find pictures in this forum, or can you send me links? It would help me a lot.
Thanks,

I need to replace the rubber weather strip on my 25 TT between the windshield and windshield frame. This is the lower fixed portion. I didn't see anything listed for this specific application from any of the vendors.
Curious what others have used.
Thanks, Greg
Added a picture of a couple small pieces that survived.

Greg... The rubber that's on the truck is original from the factory? Through the years, age, sunlight, drastic temperatures, and plain old atmosphere will tend to shrink rubber. Compared to what the vendor has, the new rubber is only 1/8 of an inch short on each side.... And after all these years, I'm sure the wood dimensions of the frame have...

I probably should get back at my front drive starter project for my 13. I am using a Subaru starter because it turns the correct direction (the gear is at the front). A one wire alternator to keep the wires simple and a cog belt drive connection from the alternator to the crank.

Since the 4550 was made between the years of 1911 and 1912, it seems obvious that the 1912 version had to be a New and Improved carburetor...in that Holley went from the 2 screw cover to a 3 screw cover much like the later Holley G's. I suspect that’s accidental left to right side crossthreading damage. I’m willing to bet the broken piece ended up being swept up in the garage and never made it as far as the hub.

I recently installed one of Scott Conger's enlarged aperture float-valves in my NH carburetor and I'm just delighted at the far more authoritative way my car goes uphill. The difference is quite noticeable.
Last post
There should be no change in fuel mileage because whenever the float bowl is full the mixture will be the same as it is controlled by the mixture needle. Only time it might change is when the float level drops because it is not being replenished by the small valve. At that time the mixture will be lean or the engine will stop. Anyway, the fuel...

I'm not sure this has been covered but when you park for long periods, like overnight or for a few days or weeks etc. leave the parking brake all the way forward. A re-build back in the 60's could be possible of genuine Ford parts, using a little oil was normal as Ford never fitted oil rings, some after market suppliers did make an oil ring for the under wrist pin ring groove on cast pistons but they can wear faster as the bottom of the piston cops the full thrust.

That’s the way it goes on finding parts.

What is the best thickness for the Babbitt on the thrust faces on the rear main cap?
Making a set of bearing caps to accommodate a Chevy crankshaft.
Let’s just say that some of my calculations were wrong, and the cap is a bit undersize in the length direction. Wondering how thick the Babbitt can be finished before it will cause problems?

Some tools were specified with finish.

And the 1917 Band nut and Pack nut wrench. Note finish remark, the spec. also called for Cyanide Hardening. So a finish remained after that process, likely a black one, as carbon is absorbed during the hardening.

Today's update from Steve Jelf's Facebook page. I broke some of it up into individual paragraphs to make it easier to read.
Dear Family & Friends of Steve Jelf,
It was a LONG day yesterday but at 2 pm MST we pulled into Steve new digs (in Idaho) and got him checked in. I've received a LOT of requests for his new mailing address so I'm just going...

Ever see one of these before??

Last post
The shock uses heavy cast formed brackets on the top and rear end. You can adjust the tension to get desired spring action. I’ve seen a brass case one before. Since I like weird accessories, I’d run it myself just to confuse and baffle other T owners. I’d reduce the spring tension if any concerns about design.

I snagged this from AACA forum. It was posted by TerryB and is of his wife’s grandfather and his auto repair shop in Pinedale PA.

It can be seen on this AACA thread:

These old repair shop photos are a delight. '24-25 Tudor and lots of treasures.

Perhaps one point missed is the consideration of just how much of a garage was needed to keep a Model T going. While pictures such as this one bring up huge quaffs of nostalgia, I can't say that it would be fun to work in such cramped quarters, much prefer the open space of modern clear-span buildings.

I picked up this puller, which is missing the stand and handle/punch. Could anyone with a good one measure exact dimensions of the punch so that I get it right? Thank you.

Timing valves for 280 camshaft

Hi,
Can somebody please describe the timing of the valves for the 280 camshaft from Snyders ?
Thanks

Last post
Valve timing as done in the old days was done to check the position of the piston when the valve opens. The idea was to have them the same so the engine would run smoothly. In those days the valve stems were ground for the clearance and with a worn camshaft the position of the valve opening could vary with wear. The new cams are ground precisely...

At what point did ford change from the brass oilers to the flip top oilers? 17 mid 17?
Last post
None of my 1920's T's have flip top oilers in the springs, just oil the hole, if you check parts books there are 4 flip top oilers listed for the shackles and are required for the perches.

Hi all. The rivets have failed between the tail shaft /output shaft to the driving plate of my 1921 Touring.
I heard strange pinging noises from inside my transmission and was very lucky to have made it home with ONE very loose rivet still in place. The rest had sheared off and caught up in my aftermarket transmission oil screen.

Just suppose someone had the opportunity to buy an old tent trailer that needed to be restored. What would it cost to replace the canvas?
Also suppose it was a Gilkie, is it hard to get the plans if there is no canvas?
Matt
Duck Canvas appears to be very inexpensive material - having it made to order may cost. Some show a price about $1,000

Hi All,
I just put back together the window regulator with a new repair kit on my 27 Tudor. The pinion gear does not fit very well and I had to file every tooth of the regulator bar. It now cranks much better, but the window does not stay closed. It keeps dropping. My question is: could the regulator spring be too weak to hold the glass up? Has...

To all who commented, or just read my post: I think I've found the problem. I just found a shot of the window regulator when I took it out of the car to repair. I now looked at the current position of the spring. It appears that I have placed the spring 180 degrees away from the correct position on the slot. So I will take the spring off and...

Plan on using my NH carb and a HC Head and was wondering about the performance of these if anyone knows the info.
Last post
One of my dad’s cars came to him with a Wilmo one-piece manifold on it. It makes installing the manifolds very easy and the car has always run great with the one-piece manifold. With that said, I believe both the intake and exhaust ports on the Wilmo manifold are noticeably smaller than the factory Ford manifolds.
