If you look at the inside of the nose that seats with the body you will see a rim that centers the nose to the body. So I made a jig to mount in the lathe that uses that rim to center the nose on the jig that I use a dial indicator to center the entire assembly on my lathe. The nose is almost a press fit into the jig so the tolerance is tight...

Question Regarding Reverse

First post
Reverse seems a little light on my 1927 coupe. How do I tell if it needs adjustment? If it does, how many licks should I start with on the first adjustment?
Last post
As long as the pedal doesn't hit the floorboard it should be okay. Do not try for a high pedal , that's adjusted too tight. The pedal should stop within maybe 1/2 - 1 from the floorboard. As to adjustments, take small steps, as others have mentioned. Half turn at a time.

I have three of those wrenches in my swap meet stocks. The square end for the diff plug is part of the forging process. It is not machined. As such, it is less than perfectly square and may well not be up to the task fir which is is intended. Hence they show little use at that end too.

Paul, the outer edge of the driven plate forms part of the brake drum surface. It needs to be the same diameter as the brake drum to perform at its best.
That replacement drum may need to be ground to remove that patch of heavy rust. It would be best to index the driven plate to be used, and grind them as an assembled pair.
Hope this helps...

Hi all,
I have a question about the shape of the fuel line for a 26-27 fuel line coming from the cowl tank. I've seen photos of this line bent in a upside down backwards question mark . Is there a logic for having this shape? Is the reason to give the gas more surface area before entering the carb? Or keeping it away from the heat of the exhaust...

My picture was taken from above so the bend looks sharper than it is. When viewed from the side, it looks just like the one in Fig. 561 and the two originals posted by Ken. A happy accident. When I bought the car the tube was bent into a loop. Jim Patrick

Is there somewhere any data (like sales books or something) where it was sold for the first time? First owner name may be?

The only way possible if any at all is if your T has the original engine in it. Even if it does it would have to have any if not all the paperwork that came with the car. After a 100 years the short answer is no.

Hi Dan,

John,
Kevin is correct about the early year regrind cams but if you have a Bosch timing cover distributer there is a thrust
adjusting screw in the cover for that. & the thrust washer kit is not expensive or hard to install most of the time.

Today started the irritating solving little issues.
Dual SR Winfields and worn linkage. Keeping in mind this Gallivan was assembled and restored in 1955 with a ton of miles since them. So lots of wear and slop in the throttle linkage. WE solved most of the wear in the linkage, and the last issue was the arm on the steering unit throttle shaft....

Jarvis Erickson( Mr Mercury) has done a lot of research on the Gallivan after I sold the roadster to him. There seems to be some record of the original Gallivan engines built. The number is 7 before Gallivan was convicted by the Feds . There are 3 that are known to be up and running. There are 4 that are nice and pretty but not running or have no...

How many amps does a coil box draw. It is my understanding that a single coil should be set at 1.5 amps. Is it as simple as 1.5 x 4 = 6 amps?
Last post
The Ford ammeter installed in the dash is far from a precision instrument, and is certainly not accurate enough to set coil current using the buzz box method. It's just a rough guide that everything is working properly.
The 4A fuse specified for the E-Timer is to protect the E-Timer itself, in case a coil is completely short circuited.

Replacement shoes are available but somewhat spendy (for my budget). Here's a good photo from Lang's of a '26-'27 shoe, which also shows the followers that the brake cam rides on. Often the followers (aka 'lugs') are worn along with the cams, both need to be in good shape for the rear brakes to work well.

Hello everyone.
I have an odd situation I'm hoping I can get some help with.
I have a 24 coupe.
There is an occasional spark at the firrewall and carb end of the carb adjuster rod.
Of important note, I have just completely rewired the vehicle EXCEPT for the coil box itself. I also do not yet have a cover on my coil box, I have to purchase one....

Carbon tracks once established are pretty much impossible to remove. Snyders sells a plastic replacement kit for coil boxes. Save your old contacts...they're typically a better material. I've found that doubling up the contacts (one original, one new) will help prevent them bending with use.

You need an old time radiator shop. Not all shops are actually equipped to do such repairs..... radiators have become throw-aways!

I got some things with my T and i have a few questions about them.
First is this toolbox. I assume that it goes on the running board. It is lockable and looks like its from the Model T era. I do not have the key (that i know of). Are these simple locks, all the same, or maybe a random key might fit?...
How do i mount it? It has 4 holes on the...

The Movie “The Great Race” and the building of my yellow Speedster gave rise to the idea for some of the club members to build racers and compete on the dirt roads and trails in the hills East of Idaho Falls. I had accumulated enough parts to build one rather than tear up my Speedster. A year or so later several of the contraptions had been built...

O.K. Progress is being made on this 1920 Touring's re-birthing, mostly concerning sorting out electrical issues that a previous owner blew off. A new or used horn switch seems to be the way to go to solve this past weekend's problem. See previous posting about that.
New problem encountered, although not a game killer. The wiring on this car was a...

This one of the best wiring diagrams. The J position on the ammeter is for the + positive connection to the BAT position on the ignition switch & the U is the - negative position on the ammeter from the cutout/VR on the generator via position 1 on the terminal block.
Some ammeters connections aren't marked so its up to the user to figure direction

Going Down Hill with a Ruckstell

There is an old saying, You must go downhill at the same speed you might go up the same hill!
The Ruckstell will allow a Model T to go up hill at a fairly good speed.
Going downhill with a Ruckstell may allow the Model T to go faster than is desired or safe.
What is the best way to go downhill with a Ruckstell?

Love the replies - turn it off and back on at the bottom - that dude must sell mufflers.
NEVER change gears on a warford or ruxstel where you might need your brakes. Shift it before going down or live with it as it is. Why? There's a potential gap between the gears that will disconnect your foot from the rear wheels. Obviously this does not apply...

I have acquired a new camera. Im wondering if it is period correct for my late teens to 1930s era camping equipment. It is a Korona, wood box bellows type camera. Im pretty sure it is dry plate 5x7. The rear focusing glass is 5x7. It sits on a Korona tripod. The lens is an auto timer type. The pipe for the pneumatic bulb type shutter is there but...

What wonderful color the black Bakelite or plastic has. Hues of blue, green and brown subtly show.

Maxwell and others I'm sure used that, or a similar horn button mounted where they pleased.
What a nice find.

I would like to start the ball rolling on a late September Model T Fall color tour in the north western UP. This post is to see if enough interest exists to put the logistics in place. My goal would be to use as many Forest Service roads and County highways as possible, keeping off major highways. It could easily turn into a 2-day trip and if so a...

Gorgeous. I love the UP of Mich. Hands down no better scenery. Just leery a bit of the unimproved roads. We're spoiled here in our county in Ohio. Super great roads, even one-laners out in the boondocks. Maybe I'll make the tour next year...just a long trailer trip from here is the issue.
Trailering distance would be an issue for me too (a...

Austin, it hasn't been mentioned yet, but if you don't already own the Bible , please get one ! It really is indispensable for midel T owners. The transmission and its relationship to the engine is fully covered.
Incidentally, transmission repairs can be difficult, in part owing to some of the common failings of a well-used unit that's badly...

I'm finally getting around to installing a set of Houk wire wheels that I purchased many years ago on my 1926/27 speedster project. It looks like it goes directly over the bearing, and then the washer and...

Also, what tools are needed for a 1922 touring kit, like what came from the factory?

First are some adjustable wrenches.
What years are they? Why are they different sizes?

Your best bet is to look at the parts book for the year of your car. However, the photos are usually a year earlier than what you are looking for.

Has anyone figured out a way to secure the neck on a Bergs black radiator so it can support a motometer? Mine came off twice before I gave up and just use a cap. The Bergs neck is just soldered on - no mechanical attachment.
Last post
I have silver soldered many bergs necks and run motor meters afterwards with no problems. Sometimes the chrome gets a little damaged. I rather have a serviceable neck.
Could you use something like this to avoid damaging the chrome finish on the upper part of the neck?
