I have a 1914 Touring with a full set of Victor lamps. The headlights & tail light were electrified at some point in the car's long history. A couple of weeks ago I driove the car to a neighboring town about 20 miles away to see how it would perform. This coming weekend it will go to a car show & chili cookoff in another town about 25 miles away....

On mine, the lens was loose and just slapped JB Weld over the edges. Can’t fall out now

And, found that on bumpy roads the door flew open, a lace of wire fixed that. ;)

In my experience, the folded edge on the pan was a progressive introduction. The edges were folded down either side of the pan ears. When the ears were modified, the entire edge was rolled down. Some time later the pressed reinforcements were added either side of the radius rod ball socket.
The pan on my 1917 has the folded edge but no reinforcing...

Hi All,
I’m still confused as to how the body blocks sit in the channels under my 27 touring. Does the rabbitted cutout face up or down? Do the blocks attach to the body before dropping the body? Something so simple seems confusing. I didn't take this part of the car apart so there was no photo of the originals. I’ve searched past posts and can...

While my early '26 touring made it to me quite original and unrestored without excessive wear there are a few things that make you think.
And not just how it survived being in a barn that collapsed on it.
Only body bolts #2 on both sides are 3/8 carriage bolts with washers. The rest are all the expected 7/16-20 bolts.
I can not prove for sure if...

one of my coils are weak, i know because when starting if the commutator is rotated such that one of the coils is buzzing before i crank it, sometimes i hear a strong buzz other times its weaker, and sometimes its real strong, I don't know which coil(s) are making the weaker noise nor do I have access to a tester, how do I get them all going about...
Last post
If you turn the crank just a little bit, and the buzzing stops, you are OK.
If the buzzing continues, you have a problem!

Meanwhile I successfully replace the roller timer by a new (similar) one.
I also verified the distance of 65mm / 2.5 between spark advance rod on timer and the screw at oil fill socket.
Because the battery was empty, I connected the battery charger and tried to crank start the engine for first test run while the battery is charging.

don't know what Henry smoked when designing the timer-advance-rod, but that stuff was not good.
It hits the engine block, rubs on water hose, is too close to the timer, ... There would be lots easier ways to link the timer.
If parts are stock, the Ford timer rod for the year of your T will work fine for doing timer adjustments....

Even if the tube are clear and it flows good it still may not cool. Over time the the fins are no longer in good contact with the tubes and can not dissipate the heat. As noted Brass Works is the only one making new radiators. They do have a back log.

Hello everyone. I have a klaxon model 21. The horn works but I am missing the adjustment part. I am attaching a picture of the missing part circled in red. If anyone can help me figure out what part goes there it would be much appreciated.I have tried different springs but they seem to just push it out farther out when I need adjustment in.

I figured it out. A spring goes on the end that I was missing and the adjustment is 2 nuts that slide the entire back section forward and backwards. Here is a quick video of the sound after I got it adjusted.

If you are getting detonation, back off on your spark advance. Your .25 clearance should be plenty. How much total advance are you running now? If much more than about 25 degree,s timing might well be your problem.

How did you fit the replacement bushing?
Is it a split steel bushing like the originals?
If it is a new bronze bushing, was it machined down on the OD so it could be easily worked home?

I recently had to replace my original 1916 round gas tank. the left end had been cut open by a previous owner and poorly repaired. Well, I picked up some carburetors at the Iola show last weekend - two L4 Kingstons (one bronze body, one iron) and a Holley G. I spent some time disassembling and cleaning them up, and it looks like I won the lottery on the Holley, with the exception of the float. As for the Kingstons, between the two of them I've got enough good parts to build...

In late 24 firewall was modified with that lower oval hole, then in 25 the choke bell crank was deleted and the new “26” style combo choke and carb adj u-joint swivel on the NH carb used that oval hole. These 25s fitted with that carb setup just prior to the Improved Car for 26 model year.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but these rims were a one year (1919) deal. Then Ford went to the rims with integral lugs. These rims are also used on Buffalo Disc wheels, but with a heavy retainer ring that went around the entire rim and the retainer ring was held in place with 4 lug bolts. Just FYI...........

Tire is aired up but no air will go in or come out....

The tube shifting in the tyre happens when the tyre is underinflated. The valve stem hole in the rim and the same in the felloe will tend to hold the valve stem vertical, so when the tube wants to shift it will tend to tear away from the stem. The same can happen with metal stem tubes. The correct tyre pressure is the answer.

Hi Everyone. I have been wanting a Model T for a long time and finally got one. I picked up a 1917 Touring that has been converted to a pickup with the Ford metal pickup bed. It's a project and not restored (what I wanted so I can learn about it). It also needs upholstery work and its missing the wood backrest frame for the seat. Its pretty...

Early KW Coil Points

I'm adjusting the coil points for a 1913 KW Coil. The points that are on the coil are the ones that Randall (RIP) Anderson had made about 10 years ago.
On the upper, top point. the cushion spring is way greater than it should be. I just checked a NOS late Ford script coil point, and that setting is .009 .
I'm thinking of gently smacking the rivet...

I sent two of those otherwise great shape coils to someone in the mid-west to rebuild.
When I asked about them two years later, I was told they needed new points and none were available.
Evidently there are still no points available!
When I restored my Model N, I used the original Heinze coils. They all needed new points. I think RV may made...

Been working on a project that is both rare and not much known (intimately) by most of the Model T world (with the exception of a few).

Where to harness the power of vacuum?

Where would be the best place to access engine vacuum?
I have a spare intake heat exchanger and was wondering if I could harness enough vacuum just ahead of the carburetor.
The only other place I can think of is on the intake manifold, but that would be post carb and would possibly interfere with combustion/fuel/air mixture etc…
I actually...
Last post
I ended up putting a 90* on the backside of the intake.
It's not visible except for the vacuum hose, if I were to plug it, at the 90 or with the 90 removed. it would not be visible at all.

Was out in the fifteen last week and just as i am pulling back into the garage the low pedal got weird. Then i heard the tell tale sound of a fastener bouncing around inside the oil pan. I am wondering about how the progress is coming ,have not seen any updates. I looked for the original post but could not locate it.

Barely leaking radiator core issue

I was looking at my 21 Touring today and noticed the replacement flat tube radiator has a couple of damp spots on it and very small leaks. These are very slow and not dripping. The radiator was a flat tube recore bought on eBay years ago when I was assembling parts to build the 21. I haven’t use any radiator stop leak in any of my cars for years....

An old radiator man told me to use ground ginger, I have used it on many vehicles and it always works. Those seal tabs that come with a new GM water pump are ground ginger, I some times find it at the Dollar Store, I use about 1/2 a jar (about 3 1/2 in tall) for a T. Put it in a hot engine and dissolve it in a cup of hot water before adding and...

Who has flaps for sale

I ordered two 23 x 4.5 inch flaps from Universal /Coker recently for my 30 x 3.5 inch tires and was told that they would not be available for probably six months or more. Does anyone know of someone who has flaps available or expects to get them sooner?
Last post
Dan's photo of the old time flap is revealing. Even this tough old fibre reinforced flap and the tube, have clearly been driven down to the rim base. It also shows that it is unnecessary to notch the bead to fit the valve stem.

Umm, how do they go back together. Mine is disassembled and I cannot find photos of when I took it apart.

Mine was missing good springs and some were in pieces. I have a rebuild kit for both.
Thanks

After days of playing with it, I answered my own question. The passenger latch does not lock from the inside as they purposefully cut and bent a tab down to prevent the lever from being pulled back (no position 3 for right side).
Also, if you were to lock the door with a key from the outside, it can not be unlocked from the inside.
The knob is 1/4...

I have cleaned up the rear springs and need to paint them. I can’t find any graphite paint up here in Alaska and it would be expensive to ship some up as it is hazmat. What would be a good alternative choice of paint?
Last post
The graphite/enamel/mineral spirits mix does harden and provides great slickness between the leafs. After applying, assemble the leafs together and tighten, then clean off any mix on the outside edges, tops and bottoms of the assembled springs with mineral spirits and paint with a gloss black paint of your choice. I brush painted mine with gloss...

Yesterday, I went on a HCCA tour with my ‘14 touring that had more hills than I expected, and while I had plenty of fuel to cover the distance, there were a number of long, steep hills that caused some issues. While I loved the Holley G that came with my '17 I learned it had some drawbacks. When compared to a NH, the NH actually produces more power. Add to that the Scott Conger Full-flow valve and most of the problems you described are eliminated. FWIW, we did a side by side dyno test of a Holley G and a NH on the same engine with the attached results....

OHV question - oil pressure to rocker arms?

First post
OK, I am used to running with the oil-soaked felt pad in the valve cover with my iron Rajo head, but as I am setting up my new (to me) iron Roof 8 head, I am considering routing some of the oil pressure up there. At the business end of things, I know that one runs pressure to a hollow rocker arm shaft, with an outlet at each rocker arm bushing....
Last post
Mine are pressurised via the rocker cover hold down stud. Stands are in steel and clamp onto the shaft so shafts can be used for oil ways.

Good to hear Mark. Some thing I learned the hard way is only use a file or aluminum oxide paper, real sand paper ( silica sand ) can turn into glass
when exposed to heat ( arc ) making it a insulator. Like I said the hard way!
