It all depends on how authentic you want to be. A real Murphy fastener usually has an M with a circle around it.

If the shackles have the brass twist type threaded in oilers, might these also be used on the king pins and tie rod ends? I'm installing a rebuilt 1915 engine. I see numerous Model T engine installation tips on our forum, but I'm wondering if there are any pads installed under the two rear engine mounts (leather, cloth, or ?).
Last post
The rear engine mount to frame bolts are the primary electrical system ground point. You don't want starter current, or any significant portion of it, passing through the front engine mount, the gas line, or the control linkages. Even if you don't have a starter or a generator, you still need a reliable engine to frame ground for the ignition...

Take a look at this for turn signals. Signal Dynamics, part # 01003. This very small unit is 100% solid state, self canceling, and the flasher is internal to the small control unit, that is about the size of a half pack of cigarettes. The only down side it requires 12 volts. If running LED’s, a small battery would last the entire touring season,...

Last post
Ford used a single upholstery tack with a larger head than the all the other tacks. It is better to drill the socket, but often you will find the nail on the tack has been driven through the metal socket. Driving a new tack into an existing socket hole may not work well. The hole in the wooden bow is likely oversize due to previous nails and rust...

I have a '22 Coupe and the brass roller turns freely along the track so I would guess that your roller should roll and not be in a fixed position. Sliding a solid metal piece against another solid metal piece would cause one to wear a flat spot or hole in the other.

Today’s release on Jay’s YouTube channel had him teaching one of his producers how to drive a model T. While many will disagree with his methodology, I have to admit that it is a real nice car.

How fast will your Model T go, 40mph, 45mph, 50mph? Doesn't matter because you only have brakes for 32mph. The real question is not how fast will it go but fast will it stop!

Hi everyone,
My name is Matt, and I’m proud to now be the caretaker of a 1926 Model T Touring that’s been in my family for decades. Seems the plate is held in the housing with those circular like upsets, like small rivets. You might try to carefully pry the plate off the housing. That may free the internal spring and socket.
Going back together some sort of fasteners will be needed, as the spring behind the cup and bulb contact exerts some force. Maybe small Pop...

A new rebuild shouldn’t be that tight to begin with. If you rebuild an engine and you build it fairly tight use some lubriplate , STP at least a coat of oil on all the bearing surfaces. A coat of STP on the bearing surfaces works pretty well. Just a little makes the surfaces really slick.

I'm not sure what those gear ratios are on those pulleys. Max output of a T gen is 100watts. P=VI, so 100w/6v=16.667 amps. I always recommend charge rates of 3-5A, so if it was a reduced speed, it would charge, yes. If you notice how the gen acts when a T is idling,...

If you are using a standard T oval tank, most I have seen have a depressed X pattern in the ends. A vinyl stick-on may not be the answer. A vehicle wrap type application should do the trick. Maybe neither will appreciate fuel being spilled over them.

There have been a number of occurrences recently where a Model T craftsman has passed away and all of their knowledge, expertise and experience went with them. A recent instance that comes to mind is our good friend Stan Howe who passed away while working in his shop. Stan had many years of experience and was an expert on brass carburetors. All...

Thank you VERY MUCH for making this available. Doing this is good for the hobby, and probably will be good for your business as well, once people see what is involved in doing this work! As ever, doing things RIGHT takes time and commitment, and people can now see EXACTLY what it takes to do your level of work! (Which obviously is VERY HIGH!)...

I’d like to hear from people like me who drive their model T nearly every day. I think it’s a very different experience than the occasional drive. And for me it’s also city traffic to work and then pleasure drives in the evenings and weekends. So, more like how they were actually driven back in the model T era.
For 35 years I used Tiger timers...

I've posted some pictures in the photo section under James, assuming I did it right. Would love someone to take a look and help me identify this thing. Serial number is so rusted I haven't been able to read it. I believe it's a mid 20's T with the truck conversion. But then there's an extra transmission, and I don't know what that even is. Really...

Its a garden tractor. Car chassis with a TT axle for lower gearing.
The extra transmission for additional lower gearing. It needs iron tractor wheels similar to what you have shown.
Putting T wheels to turn into a TT truck? Its way cooler as a garden tractor.

Last post
The license plate bracket, taillight base with single socket are one piece.
The lense holder can is seperate. You basically need another tail light unit & will have to change the sockets in both to double sockets.
The stock light is a running light, no stop feature.

They are door strikers. They are mounted on the B-pillars for the door latches.

Ed fuller,
The vast majority were the result of a tight radius on the pins. Next in line were pin failures also, but with good radius yet the crack started in the radius- my conclusion on then was too rough of a stone/stone needed dressing. Lovely car Tom. The spokane build was much lighter grey, so the red highlights really stood out. Were the tyres on yours Insa brand from South America somewhere? We only ever saw that tread pattern on 21 tyres for the later T. While I think I can see a split in right front rim, the proportions of wheel and tyre look more like 23 items.

Ok. Some folks on here are aware I am rebuilding a Centerdoor from a complete body I got from another hobbyist. Said body needed some parts redone wood wise, and those pieces have been completed.
The front pillars align with the cowl, so all good there. (No final assembly yet).
Mocking up the hinge pillars and rockers seems straightforward...

Sediment Bulb Inlet
by

This is total trivia, but I find it interesting. I have several NOS Sediment bulb inlets for the 1912 and later bulbs. The factory number on the sediment bulb is 2088, but the inlet is not listed. I find that interesting in that most of the inlets I've seen are either plugged, or have a hole punched in them.
The earlier style inlet is quite plain...

Patterson Speedometer Drive for Model T
Replies: 4
by
ModelTWoods » Sat Aug 02, 2025 5:15 pm
First post
Unlike the NASH transmission mounted speedometer drive sold for Model T's, which used more than two gears, did the Patterson drive use only two gears, one on the transmission output shaft and one on the end of the cable which was secured to the transmission inspection cover?
Last post
The drive I have has a four start spiral gear and a 10 tooth fibre pinion gear which is well worn. The top right hole in the cover is round as usual. All the others are slotted. I presume this is to allow some sort of mesh adjustment between the spiral gear and the pinion.

These are the rear fenders that came with my 14 Runabout project. Is the tab bent out to bolt to the running board apron correct? It appears to be just cut from the fender and bent out. Thanks, Art

In my experience, the mounting to the running board is full width and is bent from the top panel of the fender and has folded edges over an additional strengthening plate, just like the later fenders. The bracket which attaches to the splash apron is a separate piece, of heavier gauge material and is riveted on. Our RHD stuff originates fro...
