A well used Model T in 1938.

Here’s a pic from the Traces of Texas website. It was taken in 1939 but may have been in 1938 because of the date on the rear plate.
The T Roadster looks like it’s a 1920 or close to it. By this time it was an 18 year old car used car that was really being used. It looks like it has a lowered top bow bracket of some sort or?

I have a ‘27 Coupe and I have detected a very slight fuel leak where the overflow line exits the tank. The leak is not coming from inside the overflow line but is leaking around the outer diameter of the pipe. I’d like to get thoughts on how to fix this.
Last post
If you can possibly fix the leak without removing the tank - I suggest that you do so. Removing the cowl-mounted tank is not a fun project. It's not rocket science, but there is a fair amount of disassembly involved.

I read about various methods of treating bodywood in a forum discussion from 2017. However, when I tried this using acrylic latex enamel, the turpentine just floated on the...

I doubt if Ford treated the wood in any way. While we want our Model T’s to last forever, Ford did not make Model T’s to last, nor were they meant to. The goal of Ford was to manufacture as many Model T’ per day as possible and any unnecessary steps in the manufacturing process, such as wood preservation, were eliminated. If the owner had a garage...

Speedy,
One thing you did not mention is the spacer between the axle ends inside the carrier. you need to replace with a thicker one to keep the axles from moving inward putting strain on the gears.
I personally would recommend either the shims at the tapered end of the axle or new longer axles. Another thing to consider is the taper inside the...

Which wheels do you prefer on a brass speedster, demountable wood or 27 wire wheel type. Yes I know either are correct for a brass car but I am going for looks and smiles plus a have a full set of each and I am going to get rid of one or the other. So, tell me what you think.
Thanks

This morning I looked at a Barn Find for sale by the granddaughter of the original owner. Picture number five, the truck with all the kids on it, is particularly interesting. It appears to be some unusual early form-a-truck. The flap edges are tuck up into the tire and only a small strip can be seen but they do provide great protection to the tube from chafing and undetected sharp pit edges. I have been using them for 53 years and never a flat. Jim Patrick

A cutout should be adjusted to accommodate an 8 volt battery. Much easier to use a diode, which requires no adjustment.

It often free starts especially if its parked up for a few months, fuel on, 3 primer 1/4 turns, turn key and it free starts 70% of the time.
I also had another T with the same running gear. This engine was rebuilt when I got it and is tighter. However this engine never free started no...

I don't think free starts would ever damage a T engine. You'd have no compression pressure, and the mixture in the cylinder would not likely be ideal. You could expect a stronger initial firing impulse when starting the engine with the crank, where a better mixture would be likely and compression would be present. Suddenly opening the throttle on...

It occurred to me while in a conversation with another gentleman that the lever when at full up position is far too retarded to likely even start the engine .
I’ve rarely had much luck getting an engine to fire much past the piston heading too far on its post compression downstroke .
And if it was , it wasn’t enough to spin the engine through...

John Regan had a fovorite saying about fixing Model T's: The car is 100 years old and 100 people have been working on it. what are the chances they all knew what they were doing?
A Model T can be made to run with many thing wrong, but that doest make it working as intended.

1911 brass radiator drain plug size

First post
I picked up a decent 1911 Brass radiator just before Hershey. I would like to test it out, but do not know ow the correct thread count and 'bolt' size which would fit in the drain hole where the petcock would go. Is anyone aware of what the size of those petcock threads might be? Thank you in advance. ** Updated with photos **
Last post
We all know Henry liked to save dollars and cents whenever he could, seems it took a while on the Pet cocks, the radiator one was part No 3940 with the parts book changing to order and use the fuel tank one 2908 then finally using the oil pan 3079 Pet cock for tank and radiator as well.

I am refinishing some rusty split rims for my 1926 and wanted an opinion on using rustoleum rusty metal primer and topcoat. Or using a product called Rust Bullet which comes in a metallic gray . The Rust bullet does not require a topcoat. Just thought I would pose the question as to which would be the better choice since I already have both...

The Colonial Williamsburg that exists today has many 18th century buildings, but most of it was constructed/reconstructed by a project led by Rockefeller starting in the mid 20s. Planning started in 1926 and the first visitors could tour the reconstructed Raleigh tavern in 32. We enjoyed our visit and it got me hunting for pre-restoration photos....

As it says...who out there uses Tony Wiltshire's (RIP) rectangular timer brush? I personally have two of those timers. I have enough brushes in stock for myself to get me to my grave. Gotta be others out there that use it still. I now have a source. As always, the more I can order the cheaper the price. No profit involved. Just wanna make sure...

Hi Tim, I have one each of the round and rectangular TW Timers, and have enough of both kinds of the brushes now. It's interesting that Jerry Kramer will clean up the interior contacts of the outer timer shell since when there is wear and rough spots on those surfaces, they can eat up the carbon brush pretty quick.
Thanks for all you're doing on...

I am interested in driving my T on the Natchez trace. The history of this byway has fascinated me for some time now.
Are there any writings about touring with a T that any of the forum members know about, perhaps a book, magazine or pamphlet?
Do any clubs along the route ever tour on the trace. Perhaps a group might tour the whole route...

We live just 10 miles or so from the Trace, in Mississippi. It is a wonderful Model T road. 50 mph top posted speed, with no stop signs, no commercial vehicles (NO semi trucks) and plenty of places to pull off. And NO gasoline... You have to get off of it to find gas. There is only one place, (1/10 of a mile) off the trace, where you can buy non...

Wayne, the engine I found for my 1912 chocolate van is B 5xx The date stamped into the transmission shaft was 9 26 12. As far as I know the C prefix to Canadian engines did not start until May 1913 when the plant was fired up, so a C numbered block would be from a 1913 model car.
