The nut in the center of the steering wheel on my 11 keeps coming loose. When I try to tighten puts the steering wheel in a bind and hard to turn. How can I fix this? Art
Last post
The cover may not go on any further. It is likely locked down on the gear shaft. The test is to remove the steering shaft & see if it goes down further. I believe you will find it will. The extra material would be properly removed from the gear case side. Not my first rodeo.
That is what I did to correct it. Thanks for the answers. Art

Good morning everyone,
Has anyone taken some photos of their interior with only the cards installed and no material? Iv'e made the 2 door cards out of 3mm MDF and now I want to make the sides and back but was hoping for a photo to get an idea of how it should look.

Shawn, When my Dad and I restored his father's 27 coupe, way back in the late 1960's we had the interior done in a non-authentic fabric, black vinyl, which would have been OK for an open car. Do the 2 wrench hold there adjustment better than the 3 wrench with the lock nut?

Scott,
I clearly understand what you are saying. Today I will take a spare hub to a shop & make bushings to fit both the inner & outer races. With that the hub stays centered nicely. Also will not hold the felloe in place with bolts as it will center itself when pressing. I think I’m on the right track now.

Some tape over the axle taper during install can protect against cutting the neoprene seal. No steel washer required.

Still going thru some plunder from an estate (parts) I purchased and came across this interesting piece. Has a wood base, and on/off switch and two terminals for a battery connection. Has two coiled wire towers and an Eisemann brass tag. Is anyone here familiar with this item? Please educate me on it's use.
Last post
The bare necessity for Ford magnets is to hold at least two pounds, the traditional test being a cast iron Ford piston. If you try this charger and find that the magnets will hold three or more pounds, that's great. Use it. If it charges them only enough to hold a couple of pounds, I'd make a better one. Mine gets 4 to 4½ pounds.

A six year old Brassworks radiator seems WAY too new to have calcium build up much less be a source of over-heating, particularly when I cannot find anywhere in posts that you are using well-water or coolant or whatever.

I am not sure if this can be fixed. The frame is pretty solid and the hinge is working good.
The window slot is eaten out pretty bad all along the bottom and up the sides. I was thinking of trying
to repair with fiberglass but have not tried anything yet. I am not a pro at doing bodywork but will try anything.
Has anyone any thoughts on either...

Thanks for sending that idea using the filler. I have used that before on a plane and it does work well.

The size, the latch and the inscription painted on that door makes it likely a rear door to a closed panel bodied truck the size for a Model T.
Inscription covers the loading weight and capactiy of the vehicle and its intended speed for licensing.

Last post
I measured with a string before ordering the 32 belt. The reason it doesn't fit may be that the diameter of new fan hub is larger than the original hub. I will check that. The pulley on the crank is the original one.
I have ordered a 33 1/8 belt.

Last post
Tighten the lug nuts in a criss-cross pattern in 3 or 4 stages. Be sure all parts are clean and in good condition. Drive the car for 10 miles or so, then re-check all the lug nuts and snug them up if needed using the same pattern.
If your wheels and hubs have a lot of paint or powdercoat on them, I'd check the lug nuts for tightness every 200...

You know, I've always thought that if tires originally were as difficult to mount as the standard crop we now use, that horses would have prevailed in the end.
Nice to hear that Blockleys are more pliable and easier to mount than standard black tires (white tires aren't so bad).

What information can you derive from the body number on a 1912 touring? There is no motor with the car, no data tag and I am not sure if there is a frame number. The body number is plainly visible. It is a Fore-Door slab side Model.
It is stamped:
F.B. Co. 41123
Does that mean Fisher Body Company ?
Thanks!
Last post
I would hazard a guess that is correct. The body makers couldn't probably care less of keeping THEIR numbers in sync with Ford's serial numbers which as we all know are also the number on the engine block, and were used to date the car. Ford quit using body numbers about mid 1915. In Dec. of 1925 motor numbers did start to appear on frames.

Rear engine mount bolt tightness

I know the bolts for the rear engine mounts should not be tight. I read the rod manual and it’s a bit unclear. I think the bolts that go through the side of the frame should be finger tight. I can’t tell from the language in the manual if the bolts through the top of the mount and frame should also be finger tight.

I add just a smidgeon of tension on the side bolts to capture the wood blocks. Then I tighten the top bolts in the normal manner.

Does anybody out there run a low head with high compression pistons? And is there a noticeable difference between a low head and a high head?????
Last post
Quality of castings makes a big difference on just how far one can push their luck and maybe get away with it? However, I have never been a fan of milling heads any more than is necessary to clean it up flat and seal onto the block properly. An extra eighth inch cut off simply doesn't buy much more performance! And much more than that has ruined a...

Kingston L2 Float.jpg Got another carb question. The (hopefully) attached image is an inverted view of the Kingston L2 off my 1917 Touring. Inverted, so that's how the float sits when full of fuel and closed. The inside opening of the float doesn't fit around the carb body. It hits the card body, not allowing adjustment of the float tang to bring...

I think you have an NH float. They are the same size as the L4 float but the hinge is taller from the top of the float to the pivot point. The Briggs float is fitted to an L4, An original L4 float will fit an L2 but it is smaller diameter. An original L2 float and float hinge are available reproduction for less than $40 total.

I recently found another luggage like the one I have on my roadster. I was going to install it on Henrietta, but the spare tyre and battery box already take up much of the room.
One photo shows the rack in the stored position. Another shows it fully extended. The width is adjustable according to the load, and can be set in any position....

The two I have fitted on my roadster and tourer are both bolted to rubber covered wooden running boards, so I had no reservations about drilling holes to fit them On Henrietta I was going to shift the mounting brackets so that the original T running board bolts could be used to fit the carrier.
However, I am not going to use it now because most of...

Can anybody post photos of this unit showing the fitting which threads into the pan, and to which this barrel is fitted?
I need to make 6 of them, so I might as well make them as they were made originally, rather than just making my own fitting to do the job.

That's the ticket Scott. I was averse to using a brass fitting, given the weight of these devices. The wrap round support bracket makes good sense too. Odd that it does not appear in the advertisement. If I have to make those too, the time taken will add up.

Hello everyone!
My wife and I took our 1923 Model T, Hazel, on her first camping trip last weekend. This was the first of many trips, but I wanted to share it with everyone. The trip ended up being 297 miles over two days, from Cincinnati Ohio to Red River Gorge Kentucky.
Check it out and let me know what you think:
Thanks!

While that ammeter is the correct size the 30-30 amp range is for a Model A & others. But it will work & has lighting - could be a very good option.

I will be having all the wheels off for a respoke and wondering about proper tightness of the rims once I put the rims back on. Are the rims tightened to the felloes so the rim ears are tight against the felloes ? I see at point of contact between the lip of the rim & felloe, there is still a gap between the ear & felloe. I see slight wear in the...
Last post
Harvey, if you have Hayes rims, you most likely have Hayes felloes. Hayes rims have a foot on the lug which requires an indent in the felloe to allow that foot to clear the outer rolled lip. The only way Hayes rims will fit other wheels is if the felloes have been modified to fit the Hayes rims.
Fixed lug rims are designed to wedge onto the inner...

There is no issue with a stock clutch in good condition if driven properly. The issue is most of the parts we have to deal with were not driven
or maintained properly so they are not in good shape anymore. A grooved hub will cause dragging & slipping. If you file the grooves and don't
get them square you may find more trouble when the plates...
