steel sandwich head gasket?

First post
I was at an estate sale today that had quite a few Model T parts, including a 26 or 27 touring project. I picked up a bundled gasket set for a low price that included 4 unused head gaskets. The head gaskets look just like the copper sandwich head gasket that I've used before, but the thin face sheets are steel instead of copper.
I'm curious if...
Last post
I have not had an issue with steel. As with copper, I paint with silver paint.
I agree water soluble oil or antifreeze over straight water should be used.
I have had several copper gaskets fail from the rear right steam hole out.
The copper seems to melt out a track. Never happened to me with steel.
I prefer copper for the extra perceived squeeze...

We are not moving, but will need to expand the garage! I'm hoping someday to get a '26 TT that needs to be restored (it's painted, but not assembled). In trying to figure out the dimensions, I have that they are approximately 65 wide and 155 long. What is the height of one? It has the enclosed cab.

Hello,
I'm not sure what to call it, but I think it's called the stove, connected to the stove-pipe, connected to the holley 4500 carburetor.
It sits off the exhaust manifold near the #1 cylinder on a 1910-1912 model T.
Does anybody have pictures and dimensions of this thing? Drawings?

I received a new radiator for my T and installed it. I have only driven car since maybe 30 miles or so. If you want to enjoy antique cars and you’re on a budget Model T’s are the way to go. You can enjoy a good running car that’s already had the work done on it in the 8000.00 to 18.000.00 price range from the Black era to the Brass era. That’s not including the very early Brass cars.

I was at the home of our Mr T today. He's been making up a demonstration motor out of bits, the prime factor being that it shouldn't cost anything to make work.
The present task was to make up a usable magneto. He'd got the base sorted out, and was in the process of re-wrapping some rather dubious looking coils.
I've always been a bit skeptical...

I prefer to describe it as a large number of interrelated compromises that ultimately proved successful. The study of those compromises has fascinated me for over half a century.

I just bought some nice vintage kerosene oil side lamps that I’m considering installing on my 24 Fordor. Is there a set of brackets I can buy to mount these to the cowl or windshield frame somehow? I’m hesitant to drill holes in the car, but would love the look of the side lamps on my closed car. I also purchased an oil tail lamp from the same...

A tornado touched down March 31, in Batavia, IL. On the other side of town from me. I don't believe there was much damage beyond trees uprooted. We had hail stones 2 in diameter.

Trying to install my engine, I can get the U-joint into the 4th main but can't get it to slide together the last 3/4
I can get the engine into place just fine without hooking to drive shaft, the square end of the U-joint measures .880 is this correct, I didn't think to see if the U-joint fit the 4th main while I had the rear end apart, I have a...

These senior moments are a real pain I'm concerned about the size of the male end of the U/joint and it's a shortened drive shaft for a Warford.
Fits great in a early warford, may even be an advantage. I hope your solution is as easy.

Anyone ever try a model A style glass sediment bowl on a '26-'27? Just curious.....

You can get the glass bowl filters with both side & top inlets. I have a top inlet on my firetruck. Most have a shutoff valve on them & can be
purchased @ NAPA, Tractor Supply and suppliers like Steiner Tractor.

It saddens me to let you know Tony Bowker lost his fight today with a very aggressive Cancer. He was a dear friend, my role model in this hobby, a great mentor. I loved him like he was family. I had planned to see him this weekend but sadly it will never come. He loved these cars like no other, he loved his many friends and members he...

I have had my 1924 Coup for about a month now but prior she was not used much for the last 4 years. The first thing I did was remove the package shelf and move the seat back 5 inches. This took a bit longer than expected as I found some wood rot that needed to be fixed... It was a bit of work but well worth the gained legroom. Then it was on to...

If you dont have a warford, rux or equivalent under drive, I wouldnt advise a 3-1 set. You wont be happy. 30-35 mph with 3-1's will be running the motor out of its power curve. You will be using a lot of low pedal. That gets old fast & is rough on the left knee. Standard gears with a good motor will easily & happily cruise 45 all day & will hit 55...

What does everyone use to re-wire their car, or at least replace what areas need help? Original wire is cloth? Looks like the ends are simply crimped on or where they soldered? I assume closed ring ends opposed to forks?
Last post
I used a repro harness from Snyders when I rewired the car. However, for the added wiring such as brake light, indicators, etc. I simply used plastic wiring threaded through black shoe lace, and bound at the ends with black cotton.

The first car looks to be a Hayes bodied touring. If I had to put a date on it, I'd say 1912. The side curtain fastener are at the top of the fore-door. Earlier cars had the side curtain fasteners at the bottom of the door opening, like on the non-fore-door cars. My car has them under the fore-doors. Don't ask me how one would get in...

Norman, apart from the different tread pattern your Insane tyres are well made and give good, long service. Treasure them. The others from the usual suppliers are nowhere near as good.

The best part is the lengthy bloviation by a salesman who has looked up a few Model T facts and stirred them into his baloney pie.
It’s always a good day when I can see the word “bloviation” used.
After the long preamble, the writer could have simply said,
…as for this example, it’s a real wreck. Bring your cash offer.”

My 24 coupe (titled) is what i assume is a 24 but the engine is stamped 23. I assume that happens a lot. The engine was made at the end of the year and assembled on the car in 24 or maybe there was an engine swap later. Is this pretty common? i wish i had the written history of this car .. oh the stories it could tell.

Nice work Les. What did you source the distributor from? Some of the Model A guys have retrofitted a '70's Honda centrifugal / vacuum advance distributor with excellent results. However, the supply of these distributors seems to be drying up.

I have a 1917 Model T touring that I've recently acquired due to a death in the family. It is currently not running. The condition is: a pretty straight complete steel body (a few minor dings), engine looks complete (just lacking radiator hoses, fan belt, carb linkage). Engine may have been rebuilt prior to my receipt, but don't know for sure....

Michigan requires a bill of sale, appraisal, and sometimes a bond if the value of the car is high enough. Rural DMV offices are a lot easier to work with than those in the big cities. Visit your Secretary of State website and see what they require for obtaining a title for a vehicle that doesn't have one.

Early Ford Dealer Address Lists?

Has anyone ever compiled a list of the Ford Agencies by address, from the 1910-1930 period? I know that at the end of the Model T period, Ford lost about 50% of their dealers, some voluntarily gave them up, and others were simply fired for complaining about the Model T's unsalability. There are good descriptions of what happened in the Ford...

A good start would be the cover page for each issue of the Ford Service Bulletins. Just about every issue had the name and address of a Ford dealer that had done something to impress Ford Corporate. Each was a story about the dealer.
One of our local dealers made the cover for building Fordson into tractors for the iron ore mines here. Dan

Getting ready to change oil for the second time in my 26TT with rebuilt engine. I removed the inspection cover to check the screen and magnet. I believe the only thing wrong with Penzoil is the higher price that subsidizes its expensive advertising. A less costly brand is fine if it has the API seal on the container.
