Ever notice the script here? I've been working on painting my tt frame. I pulled the rear leaf springs to inspect and sandblast and found this nut on one of the bolts. Not sure it on the bolt going through the spring on on the u bolt. Could it have been part of final inspection or am I over thinking this? 20230410_165146.jpg

If you look at the spring perch nuts, they’re scripted too.

Since Kwik Poly is no longer available what is being used instead? I'm working on my '25 Touring front top bow. The straight section is completely rotten & broken in 3 pieces. That will get replaced. However, my one corner piece, while not rotten, has lots of splits and won't hold a tack. Replacement is not an option right now. An epoxy type...

This thread made me think of Harold too. I remember visiting him several times while he was set up to take the product from barrels and put it in to the cans for shipping. It was simple, put the can under the spigot, open the spigot, close the spigot and put the cap on. It was like a little cottage industry, with his grandkids helping.

There is a local individual who is trying to find a home for a full set of all 4 doors for a fordor 26/27 to settle an estate. I know in 26 the fordor was the only body style not to change to the new design. Is it correct to assume then the doors will also fit 23 through 25? Will they fit any of the low cowl years?
Last post
Doug, check the link from 2013 regarding Fordor doors. David's post summarizes the issue.
The 23-24 Fordor used the wood framed doors. The 25-27 Fordor used the all steel door. The later door will fit all Fordors, but is correct for 25-27.
The wood framed doors on the 24 Coupe I believe are the same size as the Fordor, but they are...

If you want to enjoy antique cars and you’re on a budget Model T’s are the way to go. You can enjoy a good running car that’s already had the work done on it in the 8000.00 to 18.000.00 price range from the Black era to the Brass era. That’s not including the very early Brass cars.
With that said the overall prices have risen some but not much....

I was at the home of our Mr T today. He's been making up a demonstration motor out of bits, the prime factor being that it shouldn't cost anything to make work.
The present task was to make up a usable magneto. He'd got the base sorted out, and was in the process of re-wrapping some rather dubious looking coils.
I've always been a bit skeptical...

In terms of testing the coils, a solenoid fed with a mains frequency sine wave would also work.

I’ve seen Model K increase steadily in value over the last few years. As a personal aside, a good friend bought this K, and I’m thrilled he and his family have it, and that it will be driven and tour regularly. I’m looking forward to four 1907 Ford Model K on tour together in the near future.
Cheers,
Rob

Several Small Steps in Getting the 27 Coupe Ready to Roll

Photos showing those small steps.
The third photo shows the clip pin used instead of pin with a cotter key. They say this makes changing fan belts easier. Any concerns about a clip vs a cotter key?
It took a sanding of the fan shaft with 320 and 400 grit to get it into the hub.

The attached photos show the horn button pieces for my 1927 coupe, and the new connection wires.
The original wires were attached to the two screws by twisted bare wire. The ends of the new wires are different than I expected. What is the best way to connect them to the screws?
What are holes in the vertical pieces for? Should the wires go thru...

An over fourteen million serial number makes it a very late 1926! September 1926 many people would consider to be a 1927 model! So not likely a crossover oddity.
Given the serial number on the frame, it most likely would be a proper 1926 frame. However, you should confirm many 1926 details. Correct frame and cross members, proper (lower) front...

If you do not want to remove the outlet from the head you have to pull the radiator forward. Disconnect the upper tank support rod. Loosen the radiator bolts on the frame. Hopefully you have enough thread to do this without taking off the nuts. Remove the clamps and twist the hose. Hopefully it is loose enough and you can tilt the radiator forward...

Michigan requires a bill of sale, appraisal, and sometimes a bond if the value of the car is high enough. Rural DMV offices are a lot easier to work with than those in the big cities. Visit your Secretary of State website and see what they require for obtaining a title for a vehicle that doesn't have one.

A protective boot for the front yoke ball

The front yoke ball, that seats in the oil pan, is exposed to road dirt, and water, since it is unprotected in any way.
I have been occasionally removing the APCO cover, and cleaning up the old grease and dirt and re-greasing the ball and related parts.
While staring at it, I thought of an easy way to make a protective rubber boot, to keep the...

Hi Craig, Love your idea! It looks like a perfect fit? Did you feel this was the best size to order after your install? What size hole punch did you use to end up with a nice tight fit? I see a Rockauto price of 3.50 for two!

20230401_191430.jpg I am dry fitting this side cover and generator to check out the generator gear lash with the timing gear. I have one gasket in there measuring .010 thick. This crank, cam and generator gears were all meshed together in a running engine when it was torn down. I'm keeping this fiber timing gear as it was in good shape and a new...

If you're replacing the timing gear, you should also replace the generator gear. In your one photo it appears well worn. Running a worn generator gear against a new timing gear will make for a noisy mesh.

I would like to know the time line for the introduction of the Hand Crank Coil Tester based on a patent date.
Bob Cascisa and Ron Patterson researched the HCCT Handbook in 2020. I did not see any information on patent or credit to maker of the HCCT. Was the original (1912 HCCT) a residual from the introduction of the magneto patent model by E.S....

Gravel or Highway

We are considering moving onto the country. There would be two ways to access the house. We could take 7 miles of gravel and a 55mph highway. The other way would be a divided highway at 65mph. I’m not sure I feel to comfortable with either option. How much highway driving do you all do? How safe is it? My car is a ‘26 Roadster.

Just assembled my ‘26 RPU and am having trouble with the starting handle contacting the apron. Did the later cars use a longer handle or are they all the same? I’ve got the apron as far back as it can go, right against the leaf spring clamp and just can’t get good engagement on the pin.

The problem got resolved today. As it turns out, the crank length had been shortened years ago. As soon as I compared it to other cranks that I had, it became obvious what to do. The short one now sits on the shelf…

Here is some pro and con about changing to 12 volt in old tractors which might apply to any old 6 volt engines.
As far as Model T’s are concerned the original set up 6 volt worked for years and still works until you think you can improve upon it but why. To each his own in that dept.

I have been pondering for years a way to circulate extra water to cool the rear cylinders in my speedster engine. The thing I worried about was how much tension should be on the truss.? Maybe others will add some insight about how to determine the proper preload?

My 22 has front hasslers but no rears. It has Rocky Mountain brakes. Before I start searching for a pair of rear hasslers, can I run Rocky Mountains and rear hasslers at the same time? From what I see, it looks like the Hassler mount would interfere with the Rocky Mountain drum.

I think the overall Model T paint was was pretty shiny for a while. After a month or so in the weather and maybe being washed and dried off a few times that’s when the sheen started to change unless the owners may or may not have used some type of polish on it. There weren’t many if at all black top roads either. After a few years in the country a...

My car came with an after market ignition switch. In a box of parts I found the original switch still mounted in the backing plate. I suspect it's easily restorable. My question is, how do I determine what key it takes?
Last post
I've seen a lot of old, poor quality die castings crumble and fall apart. Indoors or out, it doesn't matter. Often, other die castings in the same piece of equipment are as-new. Pre-WWII radios and phonographs often had pot metal parts, and indoor storage did not proetct the vulnerable parts.

I am getting ready to install a starter switch in my coupe. I have purchased two of the repos. They are the 5014 and 5014RE from Lang's. After looking at both, I would rather use my original switch. The switches are shown in the attached photos.
I want to consider using a starter solenoid. I appreciate some discussion about it, pros and cons,...

The only issue I’ve had with the 5014RE switch is the fact that the holes on the switch did not line up with the holes on my frame but it’s no big deal if you don’t mind a bit of drilling.
