Resurrecting a 1921-ish Touring

Hi all. I recently purchased my first Model T. It's a Touring, and the previous owner told me it was a 1921 with a 1922 engine (the engine serial number checks out). Please forgive my ignorance - I've owned lots of cars but never anything like this before!
The car is kind of rough and hasn't driven in a few years, but the previous owner used...

Now to get some proper miles in.
Fortunately there are roads that will get you to Joshua Tree and the Mojave beyond without resorting to interstates. The desert in spring is great for exploring.
That was quick work, getting the car ready to roll in less than two months.
If those running board cans are the display-only type, I'd suggest getting...

Does anybody produce a gasket for the Frontenac valve cover? Or, is there a need for one. I don't have my car yet but it has a Frontenac head.
Last post
In days gone, my BMC minis, Morris minors etc use cork gaskets too, under a pressed metal cover. Any time the cover was removed, it generally meant a new gasket was needed on refit. I cut one from neoprene sheet of the same thickness, glued it to the cover, and never had to replace it again.

Frank is the closest.
T-732 is the clutch finger used on the first 2500 Model Ts only (that’s the hardest part of the question). After the first 2500 cars the finger was redesigned and the adjustment screw was added. The redesigned clutch finger was given the factory symbol number T-732-B. The first clutch finger was redesignated T-732-A.

It may or may not be sort of staged with the guy playing a guitar but the T Coupe is the real deal that’s about at the end of the line. Expand the picture and take a closer look of a real world used up T. The added color really brings it out.

Ultra black will make a good repair, you might consider using the urethane RTV used to seal windshields. I once spread it (kinda like peanut butter) over an original closed car top that was basically sound, but prone to weep a little in a heavy rain. I'm doing a bit of research.... has anyone ever seen any documents or other evidence that Ford would press a small dish into the shape of the small clutch discs used in Model T clutches? I've come across some info that indicates that may have been done but heard from others that such could not have been the case. Supposedly the result of such a...

Those Ford clutch discs are flat from the factory, no dish.
There was a suggestion by Murray F. in his Ford Owner articles of penning worn plates to help for a better free neutral, but that was for worn really thin plates.
Of interest is a compensating disc offered in 1925, but only seen this one adv, likely the item didn't work out in practice....

I would like to try it instead of my Holley Vaporizer.
They're far superior to anything Holley ever built. The only reason Ford went more with the Holley's was because they were cheap to manufacture (and thus cost less, than a Kingston), plus they've no parts to wear out like that stupid heat transfer plate in the Holley's.

Was wondering if anyone knows if Straw paint color was used for wire wheels on a 1926 Coupe.
If it was, would anyone knows what the color formula is to mix the paint. Also was the 26 body painted with
enamel or Acrylic Lacquer? Thanks.

I don't know if the cars only come from the factory with only black wire wheels is correct, but the parts books give the options when buying them as, black, red, green, or straw color,
Parts books only list genuine Ford parts not dealership options.

I was reading through the 'Ford Service Course' and I saw this line. While it is true that many of these solutions will not freeze we have found that a large portion of them contain materials that eat thru the hose connections and short the motor. When this occurs there is usually no end to ignition troubles until all such materials has been...
Last post
Some anti-freeze substances are electrolytic, as suggested above, which means they will conduct electricity to some degree. A failed hose connection could spray antifreeze solution and rusty water all over a T engine, which would indeed cause ignition troubles as stated. It would probably affect an earlier model car with the coil box inside more...

Some more modern cars have king pins which are anchored in the steering arms, and the wishbones do have bushes. Bushes are used for applications where parts rotate. Think transmission/fan/brake cams etc. on a T model. They are removable so they can be replaced when worn. Dan Hatch steers clear of describing his stationary axle fix components as...

Hi Bruce. You mentioned your gutters were aluminum. Are you sure? Back in 1926, aluminum was hard to come by and considered a precious metal. For Canadian made T parts. Many forgings and stampings were made by Dominion Stamping which started making parts as a sub-supplier in 1913. If I am buying both a new hood and radiator for my 25TT, do I care if its High hood or low hood?
My firewall is 28” wide x 21 1/2” tall not counting the little bump for the radiator rod.
Availability is more important to me than authenticity.

Another way to distinguish a high dash (firewall) from a low dash is by counting the coil box terminal holes. The low dash has 10 holes for 10 coil box terminals. The high dash only has nine. The coil box battery terminal was eliminated (along with the switch on the coil box) when the high dash was introduced.

Second from the top, could that be the Martin-Parry factory ? Maybe one of the guys more familiar with M-P construction can comment on that, the photo gives some detail on construction when zoomed in.

Hello,
I see everyone sells the 1/2'' cotton wick for the old E&J lamps but I have measured 7 burners and not one
of them has a 1/2'' opening. They range in size from .466 to .489 . The .489 is the nicest one I have and I have
about 3 of these that are .485, .487, .489 but, NONE are 1/2''....
I also see that 12mm cotton is .47'' which is closer...

I had to pull a Hayes wire wheel today to retrieve a couple of broken off spoke ends that were rattling around. I took these photos to illustrate how a good rim fits on a good felloe.
The fixed lug stands well off the outer face of the felloe. Between the lugs it is easy to fit not just one, but two credit cards. On the wider inner land on the...

Tim, the first of my photos illustrates what Scott states. That is not a gap between the rim and felloe, but a shadow . The credit card shows the rim tightly wedged on the inner land on the felloe.

Norm, didn’t want to change anything from the way I found the car. If I would need the spare, it would take a couple of minutes to remove my setup. I plan to finish the wood. Don’t know if I’ll use a stain, linseed oil or paint? Leaning toward linseed oil.

TT model year 1926 or 1927?

I have a model TT one ton with a serial number in the 140XXXXX range. Further internet searches show that it is a July 1926 build. It is a closed cab truck and some identifying features is it has the oval ignition switch and boot-scraper running boards. Has anyone tried using a heavy gas such as argon to reduce the amount of dross created? It would certainly stay in the melting pot.

A small bit of beeswax, the size of a marble, added to and stirred into the melted babbitt just before pouring will put most of the tin back in suspension. The “dross” in most cases is the separation of tin or other alloys. Skimming and removing it can dramatically change the alloy percentage. I dont like the smoke created from beeswax, so just...

I find mag headlights plenty reliable. They're reliably dangerous — too dim and too limited in range for safe driving. :)

I had no reference to reset the angles between the two ends of the rod when re-fastening the one end. Fortunately, on this 1912 item, the other end is threaded, and the adjustment made, purely by eye as the rod sat on the car. On the later fixed end rods, is there a simple way to make this setting, or is it rarely significant enough to require...

What secures the wiring loom to the car as it runs to the headlights on each side?
I bought 4 of these 5033HS clips that are called hood shelf mounted wire clips.
Do I use two on each side?

The 1925 Ford Service book clearly shows the location of the looms and clips on a 1924.

Hm - I better write to Langs and ask for just the brass tube. I bought the kit and was not aware of the issue with copper at the time of ordering. Returning it for swap will be to expensive and I can use the copper tupe for other applications.
