Replacing the coil box on my late cousin's T

I am replacing the coil box on my 27 Model T truck. This is a family T that my late cousin had for years and had some, let's say, imaginative wiring practices. This is a T that my Grandfather pieced together in the 70's, so I have to get the serial number on the block to accurately date the engine. But I'm wondering where I could find proper...

To go along with the wiring diagrams already posted, here's one that will be very familiar to those who have been here for several years.

I run a Bosch 600 on my Tudor. It is converted to use a Pertronix Ignitor as described at the Tulsa website. I measured the advance curve for it, but I'm not sure which advance mechanism it was. My dad has been pouring babbitt for a number of years now, and has used a variety of different molds. Hey all,
I found a basic explanation of how planetary gearboxes work that explained it well. I thought I might as well share it as this has been a mystery to me. It is definitely not my work, nor is it specific to Model Ts, and being that I am new to all of this, I'm not sure as to the accuracy. I hope you find it as interesting as I did.

Pretty sure the cable housing is anchored at both ends, at the foot feed and locked in the copper piece on the throttle rod. Once installed, the length of the cable housing can't really change between the two parts so just lets the cable move without moving the cable housing. For using the hand throttle, the rod slides in the copper piece. When...

I have a question for the coil experts out there. Different brass-top coils seem to have different copper contents in the brass. Was this a change that was distinctly made based on a date, or was it random or vendor based? Some look to be very high copper content, but I assume that they are still some form of brass. I think this is called red...
Last post
Both red and yellow brass are alloys of the same metals (copper & zinc). But what sets them apart is the quantity of those metals. For example, red metal comprises 80-85% copper and 5% zinc. Conversely, yellow brass includes 60-70% copper and 30-40% zinc.

Did not know they could be this bad. Should have measured it before I tried to install it. Would have saved on the frustration. My only spare doesn't have any threads left. I have seen where some have teased them back with heat, but I am not sure I'm up for the challenge.

My manifold was warped, with the two center ports about 1/8 out of alignment. Since I didn't have enough experience to know better, I built an alignment fixture and gave heat straightening a try, using the just let the weight of the wrench apply the pressure technique. The first time I tried it, once the manifold was straight, I stopped heating it...

I would say, from my vendor viewpoint, that Duncan 2025 is a success. Great vending environment for the PreWar crowd. We were all located close and the layout was perfect for us. On clean concrete, close to bathrooms, good lighting, easy access for loading and unloading. Very good food concession by the local high school band kids and teachers....

Four of us from the Tin Lizzies of Albuquerque made it to Duncan. We had four spaces in building C that turned out to be well-located as it was closer to the center of the fairground buildings. Good explanation of the issue, and a try to make a gasket (yikes, expensive).
IMO, would try again with a brand new copper gasket, as the one you show is now compromised by squish from use.
And, use copper gasket spray as recommended by Kevin Prus, plus add anti-seize to the bolt theads, copy of instructions below:

This month, my 1926 Coupe, which I have had since 1970 will be 99 years old. Pretty soon there will not be any Model T’s under a century old. Outlet looks thicker wall so compared to some NOS I have.
NOS ones don’t have Ford on them and thinner wall.
I think I remember that Ford was not put on parts till later. If so when? Could this be a reproduction? Most late repro are bronze, this cast iron.

Early 1919, the first 2 issues of the 1919 Service Bulletins expound a great deal about spurious and inferior parts. The first one that comes to mind for me is that was when they started stamping the Ford script onto the front cross member (early to mid-1919).

I measured it right at the rear of the roadster body subframe. I think the bed side is straight, just the mount flares out inside the fender. The fender mounts to that flare on the bed side and it is parallel to the subframe. I will take another look at it.

In my experience, use any measurements as a guide only. For instance, they will tell you if the front fender iron is bent back or forth. You may have seen my previous post, where I detailed my crude formula for calculating the build date of a Model T, based on the serial number and a few other pieces of data.
I have finally finished my new Windows program, which takes all the guesswork out of the calculation.
You no longer need to refer to the Serial Number Database to work out...

Your model appears to include Saturdays and Sundays as 'full' production days, which is incorrect. The book 'Ford Methods and Ford Shops' indicates Highland Park assembly workers worked two 8hr shifts M-F and 4 hrs on weekends, 44 hr per week each shift. And of course, there were a few holidays each year as well when no cars were assembled. And...

Friend just gave me an original Ford gasket board with bad graphics. Just so happens I have one of Tim’s reproduction gasket board graphics.
Question is what is the backing behind the paper graphics? Look like some kind of poster board. Any one replaced this ? If so what did you use? This one is deformed a little, was wondering about maybe...

Firsts off, this is NOT an ad for parts for sale. Like everyone else I've been holed up inside all winter, and I've been busy. Some folks work on their cars, I've been busy making Model T parts and I'm finally starting to see the fruits of the literally hundreds of hours I've put into engineering and fabricating EVERYTHING inside both Model T...

They (generators) have gotten ridiculously expensive to rebuild.
I’m not and never have been a fan of modern accessories for a T.
If you need all the new stuff, buy a Pinto.
Well said. Good thing I'm retired. I've never worked so hard :)
Brent, your son , Chris, is doing a great job on rebuilding these. I may soon need to just supply parts. I...

I would like to announce that after a great deal of tinkering with code, the Model T Transmission Simulator is working again!
A small disclaimer though, the simulator uses an outdated media format called Shockwave Flash and may contain errors. It's using some clever behind-the-scenes coding trickery to make the original simulator come to life...

Hello all, good to be back.
I was recently gifted this beautiful Stewart & Clark Mfg 1908-1914 Chelsea brass dash clock. I want to untwist it from the rear dash mount so that I can wind it and fix it if it is broken. It has so far resisted my efforts. It should unscrew from both the front bezel and the rear mount. The front bezel comes off...

I'm new to T's (I have had a bunch of A's in the past) and don't understand why they make the intake runner so long. Even on aftermarket intakes (except for the Winfield) it seems excessive. I guess I could understand it if they were building a high revving engine but given the application it seems really odd to me. Can someone explain the...

some. Kirk Wright built a 6 cylinder out of T engines & somewhere...

Snyders only wants a drawing. Just annotate that it is to be used exactly if you have the original seat spring or do what they ask if you have no pattern. 1” inside the outline of the seat frame.
I have done both. One for an Amish seat i bought and one for my 1912 Torpedo Roadster i had the old rusty seat spring for a pattern.

Hello, I have three Ford style ignition coil boxes in working order. Can I use a KW style ignition coil along side of these?
Last post
If you are talking about a KW logo wood cased after market coil the answer is Yes.
The only limitation with any early 1914 and later Williams designed coils for cars with metal coilboxes is that you CANNOT put a metal top coil in a 1926/27 coilbox mounted on top of the engine. The tabs in the 1926/27 coilbox lid will not work with the metal top...

There is only...

Ford literature for 1927 (Available on Cimorelli.com) states that the coupe and all closed cars for that year were offered 'in three pleasing colors, Grey, Maroon, and Green'. That inverted '27 coupe shown above was gray. And as Norman states, the exact color match will be a challenge. jb

Accessory, as noted.
Many types were made, as Ford didn't put a steering column support on the steel firewall Ts until about March 1923.

So Ts with metal dashes prior were lacking such clamps or supports.
