Dug this late 12 early 13 block out of storage. Heavily pitted on the manifold side near the last three ports (see pictures) Top section looks good with a few minor pits near the back section. Didn’t find any cracks but of course have not had it magna fluxed. I know with $$$ just about anything can be accomplished my question is would this block...

Scott is right on the money with his advice!! Except, I've seen a number of '12 blocks for less than 3K and way less than a year looking.
There is a lot of risk trying to salvage this one and from how you measured the cylinder bores makes me believe you'd need a lot of $$$$$ help getting this ready to rebuild.

In about a week, would anyone be interested in buying a gorgeously restored gunmetal blue ‘26 tudor with: completely restored driveline, straw colored wire wheels, Giant Power Head, Simmons straight thru on a hi volume intake and a cast iron 3 speed Warford. We know Walt's car is a Model T, because cheapskate Avery advises him to stick with black. Interesting insight as to what colors and combinations appealed to folks in the day . Rather different tastes nowadays.

Gasoline Alley is the oldest strip still running (since 1918). Unlike most comics, its characters age in real time. Walt is 123 years old this year.

I am in the beginning of an engine tare down for rebuilding on a 26. When unbuttoning,…removing the hogshead, it became apparent that the front of the ball cap had been touching the clutch spring support as both surfaces are scored.
This engine has been rebuilt not many miles ago, and has some other issues so this is not a huge surprise.
Wondering...

Some are so tight, the T Z puller barely does the job to remove & will taco the clutch hub.
Installing takes a good bit of hammering to get in place.

Need the correct running board rivet set, 1927 Touring

I bought a 5/16 rivet set to install the running board brackets on my new frame but the rivet set head is not the correct size, it appears to be the correct size for the factory formed head on the rivet I got from Langs. What size rivet set do I need to do the the unfinished end of the rivet to match what Ford did, like in the second photo.

The 1913 Model S, while similar in design, was significantly different.

Custom's fees are billed to the importer and record. That can be the importer (and then billed to the buyer) or by the buyer when it lands in the destination country. All depends on how the customs document was filled out. The items are held in a bonded warehouse until the duty is paid. So when you see it held up in customs its likely waiting for...

To get a good idea of what can be done to a T to reduce aero drag and weight on a road-legal T, look at speedsters.
The ultimate low drag T would probably be a drop tank bodied speedster.

I am the opinion that the upholstery in 1926 and 1927 Runabouts and Touring cars are similar but different. The 1927 cars had steel channels which secured the edges of the hip panels whereas in 1926, the panels were nailed to the body tack wood.

The San Mateo county history museum is requesting if anyone in the club would know how to access the name of the first Model T customer delivered in San Mateo County probably around 1909 from the San Francisco dealer?

My dads former car #714 was delivered thru the San Fracisco dealer.

I checked Langs, and Chaffins catalogs. Only Snyder furnishes the drive rivets to attach the data plates. How come? I'm trying to help a friend with a Ruckstell. He must buy a package of 100 from McMaster Carr, when our suppliers should be doing the job!

I got a call from Dave at Chaffins, and he informed me they now carry the rivets. I also understand, the rivet heads need to be turned down to match the appearance of the originals. When I installed mine, I put Permatex on each rivet before installation.

When you place the spokes into position, be careful to put the chamfer so that it faces the fillet of the hub. Also, watch the alignment of the base of the spokes relative to each other as you press and be quick to realign any that try to twist.

I have made a few different types of shutoff handles for my gas tank and this weekend and settled on the ones using a 1/4 drive universal joint as a beginning point. That makes it handy doesn't it? And the idea has some precedent. Buick Model Fs used handles to reach the petcocks under the cylinders. Those petcocks let excess oil out of the cylinders and also can be used to relieve the compression when starting.

1911 Torpedo question

Here's a question for Torpedo owners. My 1911 Torpedo has a hole under the driver's seat with a wooden box hanging down from it. It is about 6 inches square and 8 deep. The former owner had a small power sports battery in it to provide power to the coils. Is this battery box original or was it added later?

Most definitely there is a right and left. You want the inside hinge to be on the lower panel so it is stationary against the spring as you lift or lower the top . Although you can use two rights or two lefts, one inside hinge will be on the upper pane. As you move the top up and down the spring eats into the hinge and will loosen the nut if not...

Yes but if they have the big drums and your rearend is small drum, you will have to change the brake drums. If you do that, buy new hub bolts/nuts. The thread normally pulls when you take off the nuts and end of bolt will need to be peened after nuts are tightened. 21 inch wheels would have been an option for 1925.

There may be some truth to the idea that there were more Model Ts produced than 15 Million. Too, if the motor production number is what identifies as totaling 15 M. there are more than 15 million motors out there.
Considering that the myth that HF made every thing in house, the first ford motors (1907-1909) was made under contract. Not by Ford.

They’re very easily driven out with a 3/8” brass punch since they’re dissimilar metals with no rust. I keep the old bushings and cut them about 1/8” beyond the flange. Needle bearings are controversial with this crowd. I use them with no problem on all my Ts then reinstall the cut off bushings....Original will disagree 😞

Spare tyre carrier.
by
Allan » Mon Jan 02, 2023 4:25 pm
Henrietta's spare was loose on the tray when I found her. Image this running board carrier, based on a blacksmith made unit on my 1912 chocolate van. Both utilise existing bolts so that no holes were drilled to fit them.
I set the cradle for this one to the front, as the second strap is at 9 o'clock on the front of the tray. There is a leather...

As both are my favorites and share my attention, I think its only fair that I give each one equal attention. Now not being a total fool, I'm not sharing this resolution with my S/A.

The first one: Putting a FRONTENAC head on a 1925 engine and make it run as it should be.
A while ago I found a Frontenac head and Winfiekd carburetor, now I am willing to set them on a 1925 engine.
There for I have a few questions:

What was the purpose of the split rim when it was introduced? Was it to accommodate the balloon tire?
Last post
For Harry,
The split rim was in use by others when Ford introduced them on the 26 T's, so they were following the herd. Ford took a lead on them when he introduced the drop centre rim on the T wire wheels, and he stayed ahead while the others all caught up. Devising a way to mount drop centre rims on wooden wheels would have been made a redundant...

Hello Fellow Model T-ers,
I was at the annual Holiday Motor Excursion in Pasadena CA. today and stoped by a local gas station that had, in addition to conventional gasolines, a Flex Fuel pump.
This alternative was 1/2 the price of their regular gasoline. I have always been told that Model T Fords can run on virtually any kind of fuel. So, what...

In the period literature, from about 1907 to 1925, there was much discussion on the quality of gasoline being produced.
My thoughts are we will be all driving some form of electric vehicle or taking public transportation.

The A& T are not the same, and all Ts are not the same. In the A, Edsel got his style and comfort, and Henry kept most of his Farmer's car principles. Both cars were very well adapted to the markets they were designed for, and both remained so for a couple of decades after their introduction. From 1949 onward, Ford adopted the GM business plan....

I see that even when blown-up it's a little hard to read. If someone can figure out how to post a larger copy, I can send the files to you.

Not an expert here, but as I understand how the thing works, there are magnetic fingers inside the speed drum that move the drum magnetically. So adding more spring tension to the drum will require more magnetism to show accurate speed.(if the reading was accurate before) The magnetized fingers would need to be slightly closer to the drum to...

I am rebuilding the rear axle on my 1927 Touring and I am probably being to picky on some of these dimension.
What is an acceptable clearance on the axle shaft gear shoulder in the differential housing, I've read the gear shoulder should be 1.807 and .010 clearance is acceptable, so the differential housing could be up to 1.817
How much wear can...
Last post
Yes, but that's the upper limit of what I would use. And then only
if the side to side clearance of the carrier and thrust washer assembly inside the axle housings is small say 5 to 10 thou. The idea is to maintain the ring gear in a vertical position.

Has anyone fitted these two there Blockley's inner tubes? are they suitable with the 30 by 3 and half inner tubes?

I use rim liners rather than flaps. I cut a 2.5 wide strip from the outer diameter of a junk 13 car inner tube. This strip is a snap fit on a 23 rim and does not shift when fitting the tyre. It also extends a little under the foot of the bead on the tyre. That makes for a more snug fit in the rim bead and makes sure the tube is encased in rubber...

Murphey Top Fasteners

When many Ford items were changed from brass to steel about 1915-1916, did the Murphey fasteners continue to be made in brass?
Bruce's Big Black Book does not have much specific information on 1916 Fords.
Exactly when things changed from brass to steel does not appear very definite.
Would a Judging Guidelines book answer all these questions?
Last post
Hi Guys.
Original Smith is correct that they all were brass, but they converted to nickel plated brass in 16. I have lots of original tops and side curtains that reflect that change. Now Ford didn't like anything going to waste, so any that were left over from 15 could have been put on a later year car.

Engine rebuild: 25 block, 26 crank

After reading a number of posts on engine building it appears the parts of choice are the 25 block due to better casting around water outlet), and 26 crank due to strength.
Are there any other bits of wisdom along those lines?
Tom
=====
Last post
This is just a speculation thought but a 25 block is at the end of the run of well used molds and the 26 is a re-designed block on fresh molds. I've come across several blocks over the years that only just pass, as in the push rod bosses and valve guides are drilled way off center to keep things aligned.

Could someone who has mounted 30x3.5 Blockley tires please measure the diameter to the outside of the tire? Thanks!

Those tire spec dimensions would be inflated off the ground. Even a 30 X 3.3 tire inflated to 60#'s looses height on the ground, as shown by Kevins tape measure.
