I am in need of the rework dimensions for a crankshaft rework or regrind.
What is the minimum diameter I can get by on the block Journals
and also what is the minimum diameter I can go to on the connecting rod journals.
I do not want to spend unnecessary time and money and find out I have a mail box
post.
Thank you

I use a John Regan Hotshot battery charger in my '17. It easily keeps my Odyssey 12 volt battery charged. A question.... I run a old Garmin GPS for a speedometer / odometer. The two Garmin's I've used were about 10 years old. The first one went for over 3000 miles and quit. The second for a few hundred. The failures may be simply age-related or is...

More great info. My comments: (1) I don't use the Garmin power cable with the integral fuse. Instead, I purchased a short USB power cable which I plug into a USB adapter. The adapter has integral over-load, over-current and Short Circuit Protection

My rebuilt Stewart 102 is bouncing between 0 and 40 MPH and it's not the speedometer's fault as it is silky smooth when using a drill (reversed) to spin it. The cable is clean, not kinked, and lubricated and the swivel appears smooth as well. Any chance it will improve with use?

Just to clarify, my problems with this speedometer do not have anything to do with Russ Furstnow's work or great reputation. I pulled this water pump off of a T I recently purchased and I have a question. Given the design of this impeller, could it actually pump much water? Hi Dan,
I'm impressed getting the bolt out is usually when I break the impeller. It looks like you have the shaft out. If it is smooth and tight you can
probably repack it with new, clean repaint, and use. ( At your discretion) Keep in mind the packing stuffing nut is also a bushing, also remove
all the old packing.

Pat, you raise a good point. Bright long distance LED lights wash out the colour of what is down the road. Unless you see movement, it is hard to tell if there is a roo or wild pig from whatever greenery is on the roadside. Everything looks the same colour. At least in a T, with incandescent bulbs, you have a chance and time to re-act.

Sounds like a great glue Alan. Waterproof except for immersion, a proprietary polymer . Doubtless a great improvement!
FWIW, original Titebond was (is) an aliphatic resin, not waterproof, old white Elmer's is PVA (polyvinyl acetate). Both have been proven in stress tests to yield glue joints stronger than the parent wood.

The hole in the body is fixed. The shape of the door is fixed. You can juggle the set of the hinges and the striker plates to get a better fit within the hole.
You can also affect the twist in the door to make it better fit the body lines by fitting a twist bar if necessary. Duncan and Fraser used a 2 wide piece of 1/8 thick flat steel for this....

I got careless (stupid) when adjusting my rods, putting oil in the caps but neglecting to fill the rod dips before starting. At about 30 seconds a loud knocking occurred. Pulling the inspection pan revealed #3 rod was loose and had damaged babbit. The journal looks pristine, and the other rods are tight. The engine is now out of the car. Due to...

How long were replacement blocks made?

We know that the last Model T engines were made in August, 1941. But what about replacement blocks? Were the last blocks made then,or earlier, or later? I don't recall ever seeing any information on that.
Last post
From what I see in the Encyclopedia I think the Canadian number 748553 would be July or August 1927. Most Canadian numbers begin with C, but some have the SC or HC prefix, and some have no letter at all. The E means 1927, so apparently the block was cast at the end of May and assembled as an engine in July, or Maybe August. I don't know if...

All things being equal, would it be an upgrade to install the later rear axle assembly in a 1925 T??
Will internals interchange if needed?
Ultimately will be installing the Rocky Mountain brakes.
Thanks!

The 4 rods have matching machine marks. So don’t think it was a put together and see what we got job. The work on the rest of this speedster is too good for that.
The crank is not a std size. Rods measured 1.230 just like mains. So it was ground that way. Rods were poured and all machined the...

Anyone had this trouble removing a New Turbo type clutch hub? The material is cast steel unlike Ford forging, and is stuck . When using the puller, the hole broke away, being soft cast steel.
Any suggestions now on how to remove?

Good job.
Here's a hint. Check the diameter of the clutch hub in 6 places. Sometimes, because of the tight fit on the center shaft, the edges will taco out of round, from a previous pull, enough for the clutches to go in tight.

The Bible doesn't cover this. How should the rods be adjusted? I assume this rod is bowed because of the weight on the running boards (gas cans, spare tires, tool box, etc. Should I try to straighten it?

The brackets being forged steel, used ones could be re-shaped to restore the original shape and function. I'm pretty sure the stay rods were intended to be under tension.

A double Apco-style joint at the pitman arm would be ideal. It would require a special drag link with a socket on one end for a spring and cup, and use the Apco cap, spring, and cup on the other side of the ball. That would allow some limited shock absorption in both directions while providing automatic wear take up and improved grease capacity....

So I've been thinking a little bit, well maybe more than a little bit about a tour that would be an animal of a different nature. The basic thought is full immersion, clothing stays etc. While dressing the part is nothing new I was thinking something that would also be a test of man and machine. Something other than the scenic paved roads so often...

Another thing to consider is the location of the gas tank. All but the last two years had the tank under the front or back seat. If the gas is less than one half tank, maybe even higher on a very steep grade, the engine will kill and you will be rolling backwards. Some of the auxiliary brakes work well going forward, but not very well backward....

Very doubtful that they would have been for a model T. Too light, Might fit a front spindle? But doesn't look likely? No way for them to fit rear hubs.
Cyclecars had a short popularity in the US. Basically about 1912 to 1915. Their popularity in Britain and Europe lasted for decades! That in a large part due to the horsepower taxes in most of...

The windshield rubbers of my 1923 Model T are very bad and therefore I bought a windshield seal set from Bridhaven on my coast to coast tour this year.
I tried to install the side rubbers in the stanchions, but the new rubber seems to be too wide.
I tried it with Vaseline, I tried to pressure with pliers, I grinded of the edges… but it did not...

Hi Dan,
thanks a lot, that helps. I'll try it - pulling up through the channel!
And the lined side of the seal looks to the back of the car.
Great, thanks.

I brought home a 19 centerdoor earlier this year. Being a 19 it is a starter car. The metal instrument panel is attached to a wood panel behind it. There are holes in the wooden panel, for I assume a steering column bracket, but no holes in the metal panel. There are no signs that a steering column bracket was ever present. Does anyone know if...

Climbed a long winding hill yesterday in the T, dropped into low gear when it got too steep and kept chugging right along. Harry-its the volume of a head gasket, which is not a cylinder, as you have to include the valve area as well. Art- its been several years, but I recall that my volume was an actual measured volume using a flat plate and a pipette.
