I am going to install a new starter. How do I determine if my old bendix is OK?
Last post
Clean the Bendix very well, then as Jerry noted, check visual for the working condition. Look for cracks in the drive head, loose counter weight ring, torn thread holes in the shaft, and presence of the drift pin, etc.
Then if good, then oil with engine oil, and spin the gear by hand to have it run up and down the threaded shaft without sticking....

news report in the WSJ:
The Internal Revenue Service on Friday gave millions of Americans a one-year reprieve on new tax-reporting requirements, delaying implementation of a law that requires e-commerce platforms such as eBay, Etsy and Airbnb to give the tax agency information on users with more than $600 in revenue.

To be clear - all the above means is that you don't need to file the 1099-K from eBay etc if under $20,000 for goods sold in 2022. BUT the $600 Tax rule is in effect for 2023. The 1 year delay is for filing a 1099-K on your tax return.

Does anyone know which of the two pairs of front window hinges in the picture are correct for a 15 roadster? 1918 and later two-man tops had square sockets and didn't use the T-head pins and leather straps. The square sockets had obvious outward seams as shown in your photos.

Let me begin by saying I'm well versed in the chronology of Ford T spark plugs. As a 50 year collector of plugs, I have examples of plenty, plus lots of info and advertising, so this isn't a question about anything other than just this one plug.

The script looks pre-T to me. I've never seen a 3/8 NPT before. Might have been made for one of the experimental engines?

Here’s an earlier post that has lots of pictures and information about T Coupe window regulators. I have a late 24 T Coupe that has wood framed doors and it took me 2 years to find a missing regulator but I did find it. I repaired it and it works fine.
Good luck with your car.
I’ve read that the later regulators would fit the 25 metal framed...

No, just the hood shelfs with wood blocks underneath. The shelf brackets were added for the wider 26/27 hoods which the TT never used.

Flat towing a T

A recently revived earlier post showed what can happen when a T is flat towed, incorrectly. Best idea is to load the car on a truck or trailer for the journey home. Sometimes that is not practical, for varying reasons. I have flat towed two of my T's, but it requires some insight. If the car is towed on a starp, with a driver to steer it, repeated...

I flat towed my 26 with a tow bar attached to the front axle about 30 miles with the engine running, this caused no issues. The car steered fine on the straight but needed some assistance where the turning was tight. Because of the fast steering it doesn't like being turned from the wheels, it will skid very easily on gravel and will not correct...

In days gone, my BMC minis, Morris minors etc use cork gaskets too, under a pressed metal cover. Any time the cover was removed, it generally meant a new gasket was needed on refit. I cut one from neoprene sheet of the same thickness, glued it to the cover, and never had to replace it again.

It may or may not be sort of staged with the guy playing a guitar but the T Coupe is the real deal that’s about at the end of the line. Expand the picture and take a closer look of a real world used up T. The added color really brings it out.

I have a set of wood spoke wheels that I want to paint. The spokes seem to be original 100+ years old but are in apparently good condition. I've read that Keratex horse hoof strengthener is good for wood. Does anybody have experience with this? Should I Keratex my spokes before I paint them?

Double boiled is not a defining term when identifying painting materials. The common distinctions for linseed oil are raw (self explanatory) or boiled , heated, oxygenated via forced air, and usually with unspecified drying agents added.
Double boiled is probably descriptive of a proprietary method by a particular company that markets its...

1926/7 Touring Interior Wood By The Numbers

So I know that the 1926/7 Touring cars are the easiest to install the interior wood. I found that the numbers can get a little confusing so I hope this helps others. First not all touring cars are the same. Some use less wood than others at the top of the side panels and instead of wood they have a metal lip that the top of the panel tucks into....

Mark,
Yes there are notches on 662 to support the seat spring. I had to cut mine a little more to make the board flush with the top of the frame. As for the other ones that you made I'd just sand them down to fit. I had to do a lot of sanding and filing to get everything to fit. I bet when I start to put the interior in I'll have to adjust some...

Repair of 1912 Windshield Support Rods
Replies: 8
by Distagon2 » Sun Dec 18, 2022 7:28 pm
First post
I have a fairly decent set of windshield support rods for my 1912 Roadster, with the exception of cracking as shown in the photos. Since I believe these are brass plated steel, I am thinking they could be repaired by TIG welding and then replated. I am guessing you brass guys have run into this very thing. Any advice?
Last post
The brass clad tubing was also used on antique brass and iron beds. When restoring those I used chrome plated, brass sheathed bathroom towel railing, until they started chrome plating directly onto the steel tubing. Then I had to go to solid brass tubing. The brass covering on the steel tubing is not plating. If rust gets under the brass, it can...

One more question. My 26 touring has a very presentable but very old top that has a few small ( smaller than a nickel) holes. I am concerned that when I get it back on the road that the wind will cause the holes to tear. Any ideas on patches? I was thinking about just cutting pieces of black vinyl fabric and using contact cement to patch them from...

Ultra black will make a good repair, you might consider using the urethane RTV used to seal windshields. I once spread it (kinda like peanut butter) over an original closed car top that was basically sound, but prone to weep a little in a heavy rain. Got several more years of service out of it before it was replaced with new material.

The Aussie photos prove at least a few of those radiators found their way out to Australia but in all my years around T's I have never spotted a surviving example. wonderful to see the original advertising and confirm that the Bulldog style was actually a Livingston product.

I'm doing a bit of research.... has anyone ever seen any documents or other evidence that Ford would press a small dish into the shape of the small clutch discs used in Model T clutches? I've come across some info that indicates that may have been done but heard from others that such could not have been the case. Supposedly the result of such a...

Those Ford clutch discs are flat from the factory, no dish.
There was a suggestion by Murray F. in his Ford Owner articles of penning worn plates to help for a better free neutral, but that was for worn really thin plates.
Of interest is a compensating disc offered in 1925, but only seen this one adv, likely the item didn't work out in practice....

I would like to try it instead of my Holley Vaporizer.
They're far superior to anything Holley ever built. The only reason Ford went more with the Holley's was because they were cheap to manufacture (and thus cost less, than a Kingston), plus they've no parts to wear out like that stupid heat transfer plate in the Holley's.

Paint Color options for 1926 Coupe

Was wondering if anyone knows if Straw paint color was used for wire wheels on a 1926 Coupe.
If it was, would anyone knows what the color formula is to mix the paint. Also was the 26 body painted with
enamel or Acrylic Lacquer? Thanks.

I don't know if the cars only come from the factory with only black wire wheels is correct, but the parts books give the options when buying them as, black, red, green, or straw color,
Parts books only list genuine Ford parts not dealership options.

I was reading through the 'Ford Service Course' and I saw this line. While it is true that many of these solutions will not freeze we have found that a large portion of them contain materials that eat thru the hose connections and short the motor. When this occurs there is usually no end to ignition troubles until all such materials has been...
Last post
Some anti-freeze substances are electrolytic, as suggested above, which means they will conduct electricity to some degree. A failed hose connection could spray antifreeze solution and rusty water all over a T engine, which would indeed cause ignition troubles as stated. It would probably affect an earlier model car with the coil box inside more...

Does the front axle where the spindle goes in get a bushing?
Does the spindle where the wishbone goes in get a bushing?
Both are either so worn I can't tell if there is a bushing or there is no bushing needed.

Some more modern cars have king pins which are anchored in the steering arms, and the wishbones do have bushes. Bushes are used for applications where parts rotate. Think transmission/fan/brake cams etc. on a T model. They are removable so they can be replaced when worn. Dan Hatch steers clear of describing his stationary axle fix components as...

Hi Bruce. You mentioned your gutters were aluminum. Are you sure? Back in 1926, aluminum was hard to come by and considered a precious metal. If it is aluminum, it will have no rust so under no circumstances should you use acid. Acid will turn the aluminum black and dissolve it in no time. In your photos, I think I see a little rust.
