A friend of mine found an advertising piece for a radiator repair and plating service in Chattanooga, TN. Called:

The box says it’s for 15-17 model t. I’m assuming it’s a regulator for mag lights since it comes with two new bulbs. They are 6-8 volt. The instructions are so bug eaten and rotten they just crumble. I have no idea where it would mount, it comes with one bolt. Anyone ever seen them before?
Last post
They describe it as a current regulator . That suggests a choke , or inductor, which can be used to regulate mag output at higher engine speeds. I don't know why it would matter how it was mounted, unless it was oil-filled, which it may very well be. Another possibility is that it is a capacitor, which could accomplish a similar function. It could...

Difference between Stromberg OF carburetor fuel inlets

First post
Just curious what the advantages/disadvantages to the two types of OF carbs, one with fuel inlet at the top and one with it at the bottom? I know the top fill was the older style.
Last post
The upper inlet version dumps into a well which contains what is in essence a labyrinth assembly whereby sediment settles out and clean(er) fuel at the top of the well is allowed to flow in to the bowl. Fuel flow is very slightly but not terribly restricted with this arrangement. Unscrewing the cap on this well allows the operator to withdraw the...

Slot go's on the other side of the cam on a T engine, some get confused on which side of the bore is the power thrust, which is the cam side. There is an arrow on the top that should point to the front of an engine.

Over the last few months I’ve read number of posts on different builds, restorations, and trips. With current roads and their maintained speed only a dream when the Model T was being built, how well do wheel and axle bearings hold up?
Also kingpins and spindles? Are speedsters stressing these parts when pushing to limits?

I almost always prime the engine with 4 pulls, and then she always starts right up.
I use the the horizontal pin position also, ever since John Regan taught me that way back in 2013. Works great. My '13 will almost always stsrt cold on 1st or 2nd yank after the customary priming, and that's if she...

A question for anyone who has installed a new Stipe cam. Does a new Stipe cam come with the two dowel pins for locating the large timing gear, installed on the cam, out of the box? Mine came with the pins. They are necessary to align the cam gear with the cam. It can go on either way because the crank is exactly the same position at 180 degrees.

5/8 look fine to my eyes.
Compare the photos I posted in the other thread of the 1917 Rip Van Winkle touring and my dad's 1917 touring with the 5/8 nails at the end of the binding, June and July cars respectively, both originally sold in Minnesota and, I presume, both assembled in Minneapolis.

It looks useful, but did it actually work? I would think NOT to use this when the engine is running as the little ball would be a blur to see I guess.
But could be a bonus when turning over slowly as that would show both TDC and spark firing in one tool.

There have been several fancy doodads to set timing over the past 100 years. Currently Lang's sells one that even lights up (for $87). They are all less accurate than going by the pin position, which has the advantage of costing the perfect price — nothing.

What would be causing excessive play in the steering of my 1920 Roadster?
It's rarely caused by just one thing. More often it's a combination of several small problems that add up to one big one (worn bushings, gears, pitman arm ball, etc.). Look everywhere in the steering system.

Can anyone tell me what the original length was so that I can determine what

If your cam has been reground, chances are there is no heel left, check it. If that is the case you will need to install a thrust kit.
What can happen is the lobe can drop into the notch without the thrust kit that is installed between the cover and timing gear.

Hi
I bought a set of Campion x spark plugs for my 1926 Touring from two sellers on Ebay and had them sent to me in Switzerland. I figured they were both the late old plugs.
But I see some differences:
-Cone at the base of the cable connection thread
-Length of the porcelain
-Mounting of the archwire
Can someone enlighten me there?
What should...

Thank you for all the feedback.
I think I will only clean the spark plugs on the outside and then put them into operation. If they run well, the spark plugs will probably stay as they are.
I have a set of four of each variety.
I don't see an answer to my question about the difference. I am particularly concerned about the different heat ranges...

What defines a Model T as being a particular year?

It seems like most Model Ts have been upgraded over the almost over 100 years since 1908 and 1927. Certainly engine numbers showing blocks that have been added or upgraded and made by Ford up until 1941 are not an indicator.
What does define a year?

My first car was a 1929 Model A. It was first sold in January 1929. It had some features of the 28. It had the red steering wheel. Tire wear indicating mileage

Wondering if there is a general consensus regarding tire wear by mileage?
I have a 26 Tudor that is due for a new set of tires.
These are 21” Universal brand. I do not have a speedometer so the mileage on this set of tires is a geusstimation.
Anybody out there have a similar car with accurate mileage on a set of compatible tires?
Dave
Last post
No terribly practical, but, the fronts can be turned around to pick up the lesser worn side created by the camber.
I am sure this would have been done in the depression era to get those last miles from tires.

Yes, rounding the bottom edge is PART of the fix as it reduces the amount of reintroduced wear. Unfortunately, under full flex, you are still crashing over the edges left on the tops of the leaf if they are not removed, and thus are not enjoying the best ride the car can potentially give.
I offer this bit of extra information for anyone...

I would never install an engine or radiator without adding a modern oil seal to the outside of the crankshaft! The problem with a small oil drip at the front of the engine is that if you drive your car much that little drip blows back underneath and covers Everything and sooner or later you have a real mess. About how many square feet of upholstery material is needed to do a 1927 touring interior not including a top?
Thank you.
John
Last post
Likely not much help, but according to The Ford Industries a company booklet, pub. 1926.
Page 10 'Artificial Leather'.... About 15 yards are required for the top, curtains, and upholstery on the touring car.

Here is one more from that series. It's fun to poke into these photos. I had not known much about Arthur Rothstein (1915-1985) but have enjoyed his photos over the years. He was the first photographer hired by the Farm Security Administration, the New Deal agency and pioneered the use of photographs and “photo stories” to build public and...

I just bought a new set of 26-27 top irons..VERY lucky to get them..and half the cost of when they were being made. I know Ash seems to be the best choice for the Bows but what would be the next choice??? Yes, I know I can get them from the Vendors but I can’t see $79 + shipping for 3 pieces of wood when I can do it myself…if I can find the right...

I just remembered. I have some very clear straight red oak, about the same size as the Bows, would that work ? Oak is tuff but will hold up under the stress ???
I would not use red oak.
White oak, hickory, ash...

Here's some of the Ford advertisement i own.
The first one is a ford punch tin with smaltz (the dark blue is a mix of crushed glass with sand and dye) from my research it's a 1917 to 1920 sign
on the second picture the ford model T on the right is a 1909 and behind it it's a canevas advertisement from the 20's. If you look on the left behind the...

Hey all,

Can someone help me to identify it and maybe put a value on it.
I think the frame is 1926/27.
Thanks.

I’ve found a few sets in early AA axles. As long as it’s still worm drive, they’re interchangeable.
Brad
I have found that they ARE NOT interchangeable. The couple of AA ring gears I've had were .200” wider than the TT ring gears and didn’t fit properly in the TT housings (they rubbed/locked up). The AA worm gears also were splined different...

John,
You need to attend the Spring Jefferson Swap Meet. Every couple of years is snowing. I always felt bad for the vendors wives that were there bundled up in garbage bags and tarps to keep dry. Some looked absolutely miserable.

A recent purchase of a Tudor had these two 3/4 pipes going to a small about 1 1/2 gallon steel tank under the floorboard under the driver seat. No water pump. Anyone ever seen this before and why? Heater, extra capacity for cooling, etc
Last post
More pictures would be interesting.
Ford had good reasons not to use a tank cooling system.
If more cooling is actually needed, rather than radiator service, adding something like a heater core might be helpful. It would have to be plumbed the way the radiator is plumbed in order for the thermosyphon principle to function. Finding space for it...

I've seen where folks say not to tap down the plates to adjust heights because of killing the magnetism of the...

I found this auction that starts Feb 2 and goes to Feb 7. it is on Auction zip in Ohio and the auctioneer is Kiko and co. The sale is online and it is at 134 Rosenberry St, Alliance Ohio. I saw complete and partial engines and a lot of other items for model T''s. looks like it is mostly Ford parts ,as there are numerous flat head V 8 engines also....

Sadly Steve I'm even further! So won't be going...don't need anything for the most part now anyway and I get carried away at auctions!
