Position of Rubber Seal in Window Glass

First post
I installed the rubber seal in the bottom of the window glass with the end of the seal pointing away from the glass. I now think it should have pointed toward the glass.
As you can visualize from the photo, as the bottom of the window comes in contact with the bottom of the window opening, it will catch on the frame. This prevents the top of the...

Jim, Thanks for the August pic of my original glass/channel. I tried to find it earlier but couldn't. It shows the end of the seal pointing away from the glass, so I have installed it in the correct position.
The first pic shows how I attached my original channel to the glass. The second and third are good discussions of how various door windows...

Adding steering column support bracket to my 22

I am just about to order some parts and I have been thinking about adding a bracket to support the steering column in my 1922. It has had the wood firewall replaced with a metal one so the column is a bit wiggly. It has the dashboard. I have been looking at the options available and it looks like I could add an aftermarket column style brace or...

One more question…. When I got the later dash mounted steering column bracket from the dealer it did not fit the steering column very well, only touching in the center. I scribed and filed the bracket so it fit much better (it didn’t take much).
Later, in looking through the catalogues I came across a rubber piece that goes on the edge of the...

Hi folks.
Some of you may have read elsewhere about my book 'Charles Montier and his French Racing Fords' available now from Amazon.
For anyone who does not know the name, Montier was a Ford dealer and a racer so it was inevitable he would modify the Fords of the 1920s (and into the '30s) to compete in races, sprints and hillclimbs against the...

I noticed the striker on my 24 touring rear door was loose. Tried to tighten it, nothing. Realized the screw is just stuck in the whole, no nut on the other side. As best as I can tell, the only way to get at the other side of the door post is by removing the front seat upholstery. Am I wrong? I'm thinking I need to make/find a threaded insert....

It probably was a machine screw with a nut on the other side that was put on sometime back to help hold on the striker. The hinges on my 21 were held on by at least one machine screw and nut. I saw this when I restored the car so I put it back the same way on the hinge and added a machine screw with nut on the striker too. Makes since to me to do...

Last post
It looks more like the rear hole is correct & the fronts are off. Fit the radiator & shell on. The front of the shelf looks too close to the radiator mounting studs.
Those shelf's are for a high radiator, wide fire wall. (late 23-25).
Safer to assume the frame is correct & the repop parts are off.
Yes on the headlight wiring holes.

That could work especially for fitment of the reverse disc because it makes contact with the taper of the pulley.
The original pulley was 3” diameter and this one isn’t that far off especially with it being adjustable.

One thing to consider with the Ford system is that when the car is headed up a steep slope, the oil level in the sump area will likely increase due to oil running back to the sump faster. More oil in the sump would mimic having a higher oil level in the engine and tend to offset the effects of having to push the oil uphill to the front of the...

A day or two ago, Coker tire notified me that they finally have white clincher tires back in stock.
I had a set back ordered for over a year. They are now in transit to me.
I thought I would inform those that are interested, that they are available again.
Last post
Granted, they were New OLD Stock, but never again . White tires are just so much more delicate than black that I would rather be incorrect than go down that road again. I've used elderly black tires too, and they weren't devoured by country roads like those Firestone whites.

Yes. The 490 was designed for the 1926-‘27 styles with the cowl mounted fuel tanks in mind. I don’t know about them being geared for Kilometers. Russ Furstow would know. He would also be the one most likely to find a 490 setup for you. Jim Patrick

For a car like this your making a good decision not to “restore” it. Maybe change the oil and maybe the bands then give it good wash job and that’s it. Also you might raise up the seats and use air and a vacuum to get the dust and dirt from sitting for years.

The 1912 Packard bus although challenging was a hoot to work on & drive. It weighed so much that it broke many of the tiles it's pictured on when driving over them. It had a battery ignition starting system that worked most of the time, that's good because the hand crank is almost chest high.

Lot S93 is listed as a 1910 Model T Ford. It its a roadster style body with a mother in law seat. I do not see any actual 1910 parts. It has a later chassis and what looks like a replacmen t reproduction body. Go take a look. Elmer had at one time a 1909 that had a later engine. At that time he would not ley me take a close look at the chassis.

The unsuccessful bidder apparently thought it was worth $17,500, so the successful bidders was willing to go $100 more.

Brass cleaner suggestions?

I've got a lot of brass to clean on the 11T that I am restoring. Some of the brass is heavily corroded. I used Brasso on the 15 runabout that I restored. It works okay, but I was wondering if there is a better product for cleaning and polishing brass that someone can suggest.
Thanks,
Neal

Personally I’m glad Bill and Shauna have stepped up to keep these products available. In the last several years there have been several suppliers go out of business because of the lack of individuals willing to commit funds and time to purchase them and continue the business. Not only did they have to invest a lot of capital, they have to relocate...

Greetings Once Again,
Our family managed to get some work done on our 1914 Roadster this past weekend.
Restored coils were installed after cleaning and adjusting coil box contacts, checked, cleaned, and adjusted all wires and confirmed strong magneto output by having my son hold the spark plug.
It was an accident ok?
Then after pre oiling...

Yesterday I jumped into the project of replacing my transmission band with Kevlar bands. I assumed my bands were cloth, because it seems that cloth was the most popular band material. When I removed the rivets and looked at the old bands I was surprised to see a thin cloth band, with a leather band attached to the cloth band. Additionally the...

Thanks for the information! If I assume that my bands were purchased and installed around 1918, as the advertisement above suggests, I guess that they served me well... and it is about time that I changed them.

I’ve been told it’s too hard, it will distort the bands, I need to feed them in front of...

Mr. Snow got that good by replacing bands every 3,000 miles or so, or 6 months whichever came first... and he never suffered any other consequences of having his cotton lined, misshapen bands stuffed into the transmission through the transmission cover other than having to change them every 3000 miles or every 6 months.

There are about 20 revisions to these firewalls/dash therefore you would have to know what revision applies to what model. They are made somewhat generic and additional holes may need to be drilled where needed. The frame space is 86/125 = .688, a standard grade of plywood is
5/8 = .625 therefore 5/8 plywood will slide in with .063 clearance and...

The hood former does have a hole for the hood pivot rod. The radiator support rod goes through the wood dash and is fastened with a nut. Yes the hole in the hood former would be exposed to the weather even with the hood pivot rod inserted. They were a size for size fit when new so that minimal water would get in. As they wore the hole became...

On my B597 block I cut the bottom of the stems off flush with the underside of the block. That got rid of all the rusty stem below. Then I punched them out from the bottom as Joe Bell suggested.
