That’s what I do also. Add pictures to your photo files and when you want to use a picture go to attachments and your picture files will come up. Click on the picture and it will be added to your post or add. That’s the way I do it.

Securing Camshaft Seal in Timer Cover

I am planning to use the modern camshaft seal in my timing gear cover. However, it is quite loose in the bore. Not a huge amount, but loose enough and certainly not a press fit. What do y'all use/recommend for securing the seal? I have an idea, but wanted to check with the folks who have done this.

Between the type with the enclosed U shaped groove into which a felt seal was stuffed, there was a second one with an open land for the cam seal but still with the narrow crankshaft seal groove. Once the open land was introduced, it made it much easier to fit the cam felt seal, and this was held in place by the brass, and later, steel cover held...

Bill I have found that a big problem with these new gaskets is not leaking past them. It is leaking through them. Like a wick on kerosene lamp.
I coat them on all sides with gasket sealer. It soaks in and helps stop that. Then RTV, but that stops what you are trying to accomplish.
Just what I have found. Dan

I seem to remember a earlier discussion about the holes. It brought up the point of cooling. Then takes a shorter path back to the radiator. That in effect starves the hottest...

Hello,
I have a '26 touring where the steering wheel has a good two-inches of play. All connections from the pitman down are good. I suspect the play is in the steering box.
Assuming my suspicions are correct, can the problem be solved by replacing the pins, gears, and pinion?
Also, can this work be accomplished with the steering column...
Last post
Steering play is almost always a cumulative thing. Add up the wear in the tie rod ends, the draglink ends, the lower steering shaft bushing, the gearbox/column tube joint, and the gears and suddenly, a lot of small wear items become excessive steering play.

To Steve & team thanks for making this happen, had a great time, sold some stuff, got sunburned, etc.
Only complaint is that when I arrived home the wife noticed that I had a Model T frame hanging over the PU tailgate.....Doh!

Wishbone comes up short

My car used to track just fine, but after the rebuild, the steering is fairly squirrely. The springs have been re-arched, new perches, new spindle bolts, new shackles, pretty much everything has been replaced.
The spindles are now showing about 2 degrees of inclination. I loosened the wishbone at the engine pan, and the front axle immediately...

Removed the front spring and took measurements against the values on Ken's table:
The width between center of eyes is spot on.
The height is 8mm / 0.315 inches higher.
Since the car has already settled 0.50 inches since I started driving it (less than 50 miles), I'm counting on the spring settling into its proper height all by itself.
Again,...

I have been a reader (learker?) of this forum for many years but have not kept up with it regularly. One think I asked about several years ago is still something I am not completely clear about. I am under the impression that the first jack appeared in a Model T toolkit in 1914. Some have argued that another Ford jack was used before that, such as...

When you are jacking the rear of the car, I think a more accurate description of the two different handles might be short and shorter. I'm almost past using the jack at the rear. I had a flat on our last Annual Run, and gladly let others do the job.

As a Model K guy, it's always intrigued me that Henry Ford chose/allowed a Model K to lead the racers out of New York to St. Louis at the beginning of the race. As with most contests of the period, a prestigious lead car was always selected as the Pilot Car to enforce any controls and set the pace in endurance contests. A question that should be...

I guess I was pretty clueless on the availability of new stock replacement Scat T crankshafts. How long have you guys waited when buying one recently?
Last post
I checked the Scat website last weekend and they show T stroker cranks in stock.
I ordered one on 5/12 and it's arriving tomorrow. I'll probably regret not buying two but they are not cheap.

Can anyone refer me to a source for Medium Cream pin stripping paint, as used by Ford on 1926-27 enclosed cars?

Last night, I 'googled' pin striping in my area . I came up with a company here in San Antonio whose artist does striping with paint, not vinyl tape, and air brush and has been doing it since 1994. He trained under a well known car stripper on the west coast. For $150.00, he will come to my location and stripe my car, avoiding me from having to...

As noted, the Jeep ones are reasonably priced and look pretty 'era'. I recently bought one of the cheap version repro T on bay-buy it now- it is fine but I needed to rework the 'snap action' to hold the can tight enough.
As to a whacky price? It just takes two....lol...been there done that.

Does a muratic acid and water solution for rust removal eat away at brass or bronze fittings or bushings?
I know that a sodium bicarbonate solutions and a battery charger eats away at brass fittings.
Last post
I will try washing soda, I used sodium bicarbonate used to lower the pH in swimming pools and it eats at brass.
One trick I used was to take a piece of plastic pipe and drill a lot of 1/4 to 3/8's holes in it. Then put your rebar inside it with the wire you are going to connect to the positive terminal of your battery charger coming out the top....

Many people have actually backed up hills to keep the gas flowing. I don't recommend it unless it is a private driveway. These days you would probably be rear ended if you tried it.

The revised Print indicates 1909 to 1921, but that print is marked obsolete Oct 10, 1920 so was gone from tool kit for the 1921 model year.

What is the thread size on the starter switch posts?... Thanks in advance.
Last post
A thinned down wrench to hold the nut next to the starter switch mounting plate means you can hold that nut in place when wrenching on the cable retaining nut. That way you will not be turning the stud bolt in the switch.
The same applies to starter and generator terminals.

Poll:
How low can you run the fuel level in a cylindrical, under-seat, 10-gallon fuel tank?
Last post
Also depends on whether or not there is any added restriction in the fuel routing, either by design (like an added fuel filter?) or by material failure (kink in the tubing, Shellac build up due to old gasoline, rust flakes, or any of a hundred other things?).
On level roads, any standard model T should be able to run the gasoline tank down to less...

Helping someone identify the year on a center door. The engine is a ‘22, but it has a metal firewall. It is my understanding the metal firewall didn’t come along until mid ‘23. I assume a 22 center door would have a wood firewall? Is it possible that someone rebuilding this years ago put a metal one where there was wood, or is this likely a ‘23?...

Many years ago, the prevailing wisdom (wrong!) was that Ford factory started using steel firewalls much earlier on many cars. This was due to so many late 1910s and early 1920s surviving Ts had steel firewalls. I even saw a 1915/'16 with a steel firewall. They must have had fun cutting the drain channel off the top of the firewall to get the brass...

I have seen a couple wheels re-spoked but didn't get involved enough to learn the process.
My passenger rear had three loose spokes and when I jacked up the car it turned into more than a couple.
I ended up depleting the supply of U shims I had access to (8) and the wheel tightened up just fine.
It now has a bit of side to side wobble.

Willy. Be sure to realize that a Ruckstell is a mid range drive and not an overdrive. That's a lot of $$$. bobt
Leave the hubcap off the rear wheels to remind you to check the tension on the axle nuts once you have done a few trips/miles. Things settle in after a bit of use. You may get another slot or two.

Hi Everyone,
I'm looking to install a RICARDO PAT NOV 13 1923 HEAD & would like to send it out to have it surfaced .010 to get a better gasket seal but I'm
concerned about piston clearance. The current area over the piston is .423 so I would end up with .413 with a gasket crush of .050 to .060.
I have found info on line of the stock compression...

Put a ball of modeling clay on top of each piston then put the head on and crank it over and remove the head and see how much you squish the clay. You can buy the clay at the dollar ($1.35) store. bobt
