What is reccommed tire pressure on 30X3.5 demountable rims? Thanks, paul

Model T tires, including the low pressure balloon tires are low volume tires. They do not need to lose much air to lose a substantial amount of pressure. I find that small variations in tire pressure can materially affect ride and handling with 4.40 X 4.50 X 21 balloon tires. The clincher tires get downright dangerous if correct pressure is not...

Even new Model T's, presumably well maintained, mark their territory. You can follow the oil trails that emanate from the T barn at State and Bagley as the T's traverse their regular routes along the streets of the village.

with carbs like this, the rebuild process typically involves the bushing of the throttle shaft and manufacture of a new shaft. If the rebuilder knows the intended application, an extended shaft is made so as to effect actuation from which ever side you need or desire.
Carbs manufactured like the OE-1 really should be mounted with the bowl...

If you approach a steep hill at 35 MPH, it is not necessary to retard the spark until, and if, your speed drops off to 20 to 25 MPH. It should not be necessary to downshift the Ruxtell 2 speed axle unless the car's speed falls off to around 20 MPH and you still have an uphill run ahead. Weak magneto output afflicts many Model Ts. I wonder if it would be practical to make replacement magnets that fit in the original magneto assembly but had the power and durability of modern permanent magnets. Many portable generators have permanent magnet rotors that operate sucessfully under conditions of heat and vibration at least as severe as...

In all of the Model T's I have worked on, I have found chokes on MAG output on exactly none of them
And of all Model T owners I've ever met, the number of people who've said Dang, this MAG puts out so much, I need to reign it in! is exactly zero also.

I have replaced a couple of loose rivets on the outside end. The loose ones were drilled out. New rivets were inserted from the inside. I used an angle grinder to dig a slot in the outside of a piece of heavy walled tubing to act as a buck for the rivet head. Yup. The parts from Snyders are patterned after the Cleveland Forgings kit. Understandably, they are not forgings, but welded fabrication except for the tailgate latches. The rear bolsters are cleverly made by welding the S member to a carriage bolt. In all, very serviceable. I wish the welds had been fussed with a little better to mock forgings,...

Any time you use low gear, it is essential to keep firm, steady pressure on the pedal to prevent band slippage. A T can run for long distances in low gear, if it is necessary, but the pedal must be kept firmly pressed down for the entire time.

From your photo, the two ends should be bent down. This will result in the plain section of the bend being closer to the spindle arm and thus a tighter fit. That is the way the originals are bent.

I'm going to attempt to rebuild a couple NH carbs. Just about like everything else, I understand the carb cleaning solution isn't as good as it used to be. What are you guys using?

An older friend has a speedster with a RAJO. Currently has a Model A carb on it. It blubbers real bad at an idle, but runs great above that. He is wondering what the correct carb was used with a RAJO.

Hi Mark and Scott,
I’ve known fellas who were fond of Carter BB-1 with the adjustable main jet. My understanding is rebuild kits are available, they start and idle well, and they have nice accelerator pump on them.

When you say towed it home I hope that was on a flatbed. Model T's should not be towed on all four wheels or you risk damage. You obviously have the skills to work on a Model T, what can bite you is making assumptions which might not apply to the technology used in the vehicle. Educate yourself and get to know some local Model T people. It's a...

Looking for opinions on splitting and leaving a half inch at the bottom of transmission band linings from folks that use this method. I admit it does make sense, I'm just wondering how it works out in the long haul. It would definitely pick up more oil I would think.

Installing the manifolds

Yesterday, I installed my manifolds after working on the head gasket and freeze plugs. I use the glands and copper rings. This time, I did the easiest install yet. I have a good straight exhaust manifold so it did not require bending.
This is what I did. I cleaned out the ports in the block scraped out any carbon residue. Then fitted the glands...
Last post
My preference would be studs & nuts. I'd suggest re-torquing the manifold assembly after running the vehicle and check that the exhaust pipe nut is still tight.

Gates Black Belt Number Chart
Replies: 4

J1MGOLDEN » Thu Aug 25, 2022 7:34 pm
First post
I have a 1920 engine with a Gates 819 black belt that is too short.
I have 19 spare belts and no Gates 820 black belt.
A Gates 821 is also missing, but a G number brown belt is 27 inches and too long.
How long is an 820 and why do I not have one?
Is it because they are no longer made?
Does anyone have a Gates chart to share?
Last post
My problem is with a 1920 engine.
The two different sized crankshaft pulleys are listed for 1920, one at the end and one at the beginning of years they fit.
I used the larger size pulley!
I'm wondering if a Gates 820 flat black belt was intended for use on the 1920 new size crankshaft pulley.

Thanks for all the input. I did order the thicker shims. I guess the key thing here is to monitor how the wheel is doing.

The 1926 Fordor is nothing like the improved, all steel styles of 1926-‘27. I don’t know why but the 1926-‘27 Fordor is more like the 1925 Fordor with a wooden frame and the gas tank under the seat. Perhaps they ran out of time before redisigning an all steel 1926 Fordor and decided to keep the 1925 Fordor body design and mate it with the new 1926...

How do spring shackles wear? Is the wear primarily on the bushing or does the shackle shaft wear also?
The reason I ask is: I had my rear axle unit rebuilt, and I inserted my original shackle into the perch on the wheel and found that there was some looseness. I am sure the rebuilder installed a new bushing in the perch so expected a tight fit....

The attached photos show the leather pads that go between the top of the front and rear springs and the cross member. How are they installed? I assume with the leather pads facing the top of the spring.

Way have done is to fit the pad to the top of the spring stack, making sure the hole in the pad centers on the bolt head. And sometimes trim the edges of the pad so nothing overhangs the spring stack, which makes insertion of the spring difficult.
The pad thick sides are on the top leaf, due to the curve of that leaf. A bit of cement holds the...

Steve, I don't have any messages from you. Your odometer look fine. If you use this odometer, the part that is broken off will affect the way the dial face sits on the speedometer frame. The little tit on the odometer goes into the hole on the dial face to keep the dial face in place. The rest of the odometer looks fine. Russ Furstnow

Paint the entire leaf on both sides with a good, hard, gloss black paint (I would use a durable 2 part epoxy) and let dry thoroughly.
