Not all T's came with same number of rear leafs.

Flip it over and check the rivets for cracks. 9 out of 10 are cracked there.
Have been told someone is looking to make some new ones but will not be cheap.

Make sure the rivets are tight. I like welding a 3/4-1 bead in 3 places, (between the 3 web holes).

Then do square up cuts to the plate in a lathe to the mating surfaces.

Chances are that manifold is in fact Cast Iron. Old school foundry methods of the era allowed cast iron to be pulled from the sand within 24 hours, often next shift, shaken down and sent off for machining immediately. (perhaps not too bright on this last one, but hey...it worked, most of the time and a good foundry man of the old era knew...

Yep, along with the reference to MMO both products fix everything. But my tool box contains WD40 and duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't Duct tape it; if it doesn't move and it should flood it with WD40 :twisted: :D :D

There should not be any paint on the leafs before coating with slip plate. The paint defeats the reason for using slip paint. Dry they shouldn't need any burnishing; spring action will do that quick enough.
When you are all done, don't forget to stake the end of the bolt to keep from turning off, same as when you do wood wheels.

babbit washers failed on either side of the ring gear causing the ring gear and pinion to go half mesh which stripped things.

The Ford service manual is a great resource for information for most any T repair. It has been for me.

I’m sure it would. I can run 50 in my dump truck as is. This thing is capable of more than twice the rpm it can reach. But that big vertical windshield would be holding it back and the part about swapping reliably for performance suggests a more low key approach.

One more thing that wasn’t mentioned is the condition of the wood body structure. If the car is a original car that was ‘’freshened ‘’up the body wood could be OK enough but not totally in great shape and just left alone. If you go back to the owner to check on the car be sure to find that out but he may no know either. Good luck.

For the rubber tip, I just bought some rubber vacuum caps the right size to fit the grease needle, then poked a hole in the tip so that the grease could come out. :)

In 50 years with Ts I don't remember encountering or hearing of those scenarios. That's the great thing about the forum. I will try those suggestions. This is a new engine and I haven't put a heat pipe on it. I now recall the '09 starting hard one warm day now and that may be the cause.

Ammeters are connected to the electrical system in series plus side to minus. You can initially assume that the discharge side on the face of the meter is where the positive incoming voltage is to be connected to. Once you put a load on the system it should show a negative reading. With the car running an the ammeter will show a discharge reading...

Suggestion for the felt on the engine block. It likes to move around when you try to install the hogshead. Mix it with a little RV and put it in place. Let it set for a day and then install the hogshead. Save a lot of @#$%^&*

Looks like between the two, you can make one really good piece!
That seems to be how I put most of my model Ts together. Two or three bad pieces to make one good piece. That and I fix a lot of pieces most people wouldn't. I find some special satisfaction in fixing all those pieces.

I would say 1/4 is way too much. That's equivalent to 1/2 diameter. If you were to measure the circumference of the bend at 1/4 that would be closer. A machinist should have a set of radius gauges with which you can measure it accurately.

The only place I believe I could place a .065 shim is to make one to fit between the notch plate and inner differential housing, but then my shifter fork MAY not move the sliding clutch gear enough for a positive shift. Other spots appear to affect the sliding gear mesh with the notch plate and thrust plate. I've got to think on this some more. :)

Looks like I’ve got some catching up to do. You can tell the Mercury dash has gone through a few changes in the last 100 years.

Another idea is to incorporate a voltmeter and switch into the existing magneto charger. That way you can manually observe what's going on and manually regulate it. Once the car is started there is no need for the battery to be charged. The buzz coils on...

I've never had my head gaskets stick so tight that the gasket was ruined. I used a heavy coat of Copper Coat on the gasket and follow the directions which says to let it DRY before installation. I used to just hang up the old ones on a nail but now will start to reuse them like I did before.

All advise given is good, but to me the Ford instructions of filling the hub and hub cap are rational. For the wheel hub, while not complete filled, I usually put several tongue depressor loads in the inner hub, and smear them around, as that cavity can hold moisture.

Then the hub cap is filled, and it serves to supply grease , but better to...

If you are going to order new tires and tubes, you should order them now in case it takes them a long time to get to you. Like a lot of Model T parts, I think tubes, flaps and tires are very hard to get now, so save your tires, tubes and flaps, make repairs to the tubes where needed and re-mount them on your rims when you are ready in case you are...

The way I did my 26 Tudor windows was to attache the felt channel at the bottom and not connect the top. Then insert the glass into the channels and slide it down to the window regulator. Then pull up the felt channel and attach the top segment.

I agree with Steve, especially if the engine is out of the car and a complete rebuild of the magneto is needed or desired. You can also adjust the height of the magnets above the surface of the flywheel. You can also test and replace any broken magnets that way. And you can adjust the distance of the coil ring from the engine to get best...

The amount of work to fit skinny block cheby pistons and the lack of compression I don't think the term If it isn't broke don't fix it would apply. Unless there is a A crank in the engine. I have seen Y block pistons in a A crank engine but the stroke would make up for the piston only coming up to the top of the block.( Kind of...

Mike Coats, are you any closer to discovering the source of the extra electricity.

The spark voltage from the coil is the only voltage that is high enough to provide you a shock.

That high secondary voltage comes out the bottom button of the coil and it is a very short trip from there to either one of your coil primary voltage sources.

Based on my experience, I would dismiss ethanol gas as a likely problem unless it's very old. I use it, and haven't had any Model T problems that I attribute to it. Of course, I drive enough to use it up before it can go bad .

The S7 is probably the pattern number, so if they had flaws, they would know which pattern was causing the problems. Patterns have only a limited life, based on how hard they are used.
