I replaced the ignition and light switch contacts 30 some years ago. Everything worked ok, but I wanted to have the face plate nickel plated.
After disassembling everything I found the lock cylinder (tumbler) was missing 2 of the 4 wafers. The rectangular end of the pot metal cylinder wasn't so rectangular anymore - a chunk was missing where it...

Good eye James, you're absolutely right!
I have been tweeking this wafer and it unlocks much better now.
I won't be able to paint the handle for at least a week, so the reassembly will have to wait a bit.

EEC represents the European Economic Community. I believe it became widely used to blur the distinction between older western nations like Britain and Germany and the newly emerging eastern European nations from the communist bloc. It may mean that the tubes were manufactured in one of the newer European economies.

The lower bracket is installed be for the spark lever at the bottom. It can be installed while everything is in the car. For the throttle, install that one that the link was posted to, or take off the pitman arm, unbolt and side the lower mounting bracket down and install the correct one. The column does not have to be removed.

A properly counterweighted crankshaft will allow a T engine to run much smoother and run at somewhat higher RPM without damage. More power will be available to move the car, and the driveline and the entire car will benefit from the marked reduction in vibration. Personally, I'd be inclined to install one of the new counterbalanced crankshafts,...

There is a strange little foot pedal in the center of the floorboards just forward of the seat that is no longer hooked up to anything on my 1915 touring car. What was the purpose of the pedal?

Take a look at the exhaust pipe towards the rear o see if you have something attached to it. May be that the spring from the pedal is gone

This must have been a good seller when published on 1907. There are many copies as low as three dollars on tbay.
I finally bought one. It was quick light fluff.

Michael,
I have an old copy picked up on eBay. It’s been a good resource for production numbers. I also have Beverly Rae Kimes (RIP) book, “The Cars Henry Ford Built,” but have many issues with much of the early Ford history. That’s another topic for a potentially long and contentious thread….

Yes. Firestone. Used on some of the Model A body styles, in various lengths. 8 11/16 long would be 28-29 coupe and tudor models. Most were chocolate brown, but some may have been black. How are they for flexibility after so many years? I know Model A restorers that may be interested if for sale.

I am working on an emergency gas-tank cap. In case that I am low on gas I want to use an air-pump to pressurize the tank a little bit.
Of course, I don't want to modify the original brass cap, and even a used one is too expensive because of shipping cost, so I got the idea to 3D print one, including the thread, in Nylon, with a little...
Last post
The petrol tank cap is a fairly standard size and thread. A Fordson tractor cap fits, either the radiator cap or the fuel tank cap. A more ready source is the bung in a 200 litre fuel/chemical drum. Nowadays these are usually diecast, so any fitting to the bung would need to be bolt-in rather than welded/soldered.

Hello All,
Have any of you installed the truss accessory for the rear axel that John Stoltz at the Model T Ranch sells?? If so will this fit directly onto a stock 1909 6 rivet rear end??? If not then does anyone sell one that fits directly on a 6 rivet rear end?? Attached is the pic from John's website. Any help appreciated. Thanks, Andrew

On June 21, 1907, Ford Motor Company entered three cars in a 24 hour race at the Michigan State Fairgrounds. A total of ten cars entered, with the race beginning at 10:00 pm on the longest day of the year (June 21). At this time, Ford Motor Company was the largest automaker in the world, and produced more 4 cylinder, and 6 cylinder cars than any...

Ford quickly capitalized on the record win with a publication of their own. Fortunately, several of these pamphlets describing the race exist today. Click on the link below to hear our own Bob Coiro narrate part of the Ford Motor Co. advertising pamphlet describing the 24 hour victory:

The ignition system consists of a number of parts and assemblies. All of the parts and assemblies must be in good working order for the system to work properly and consistently deliver a good spark to each cylinder at the proper time, every time. The ignition system is somewhat like a chain. It will only function as well as the weakest link.

Your second post implies the noise has changed for the worse.
Its the tripple gears. Check the slop in the bushings. Pull the transmission access cover & wiggle the gears one @ a time with a large screwdriver. Check teeth condition visually. If your inspections dont show glaring wear/looseness, this noise level may be normal.

The 1921 Roadster Pick-up I have is, as I'm told, build of two cars back in 1963.
The running chassis have given the legal idendity so it is titled as a 1921 Model T, but I recall the original owner/builder that it was a 1919. I think it was because it may be the front half of a 1919 touring that make the body. The bed is made new back in 1963....

Thanks for the information on the pistion clearance. I went down and rechecked each cylinder at the top and bottom and I can place a .005 feeler guage next to the cylinder at both the top and bottom. Increases valve spring pressure. Commonly done on modern engines to maintain valve spring pressure after a valve job. Good original springs or new ones should be used. No additional spacer is needed for a T motor, even with a lower valve seat.
