I drove a bit longer than usual but I was just 4 miles to 4 MI back. The engine just turned off the way there and it did it twice more the way back. Why remove the plugs? if towing on a rope, in high gear, leaving the plugs in will help braking because you will still have engine compression. Just close the throttle down.

First of all, thanks vendors and part makers. I have a replacement linkage kit between the low band and the clutch shaft. Before I install it, I found play in the clutch pedal and need to know if this is normal. Here, there is no additional load on the low band spring from the clutch pedal being moved forward.

The same problem with a none-to-sharp bend can occur in carburetor linkages, especially with the thick brass levers on the throttle plate shaft. I have found brazing a washer to the back side of the bend up against the shaft of the rod keeps the rod straight in the arm and takes out the inside radius of the bend.

I am uncertain about the direction of rotation of this Matco drive, and am wondering if the rotation is clockwise or counterclockwise.
The magneto is currently being rebuilt, and the rebuilder needs to know the rotation.

On these photos, those 3 big tanks each have drain cocks on the rear, canisters filled by hanging under the those spigots.

Some of the tanks carried gasoline, oil and kerosene in each compartment.
So likely the canisters, for hand dispensing, were carried there with assorted tools.

As you may suspect I've installed hundreds of new field coils in the starters I rebuild. How do I get the post silver soldered to the field winding bar and do it without burning up all the insulation? And NO through rod is required when you do it this way. Silver soldered joints do not break free.
They last forever and ae infinitely stronger...

Having been using Budd wire wheels on a number of t projects over the years, I found a sure fire easy way to mate your Overland rear hubs to model t axles.

Get 2 26/27 inner wooden wheel rear hubs. Machine these inner hubs to lightly press fit into the Overland rear hubs. Then I tig weld the t inner hub to the Overland hub front and back.

When I was restoring the front seat spring for my Dec.24 Touring, I found this steel tag attached to one of the springs. It has the number A85696. Does anybody know what its purpose is? A part number? Installation company? Worker's ID?

Installing a new 280 camshaft into a 26 engine.
Apparently someone had installed an earlier cam ( pre 24 style) as it has the longer front bearing,…. Not a huge issue as I can cut the bearing to the required length on my lathe.
This engine engine was rebuilt recently, so I am going to try and re use the bearings. The location pins for the bearing...

Interesting layout. Pictures 5-6-7-8 are all the same young lady and car. The first three parked at a same place with cars in the background. The last one a similar angle but different location.
The headlamp lenses are an interesting detail. They may be a version of the 1921 only shaded lenses used for awhile before introduction of the H lens...

These large wing nut style studs were in with a bunch of T Parts.

You could buy dress up engine parts from JC Whitney, Western Auto, and other auto parts stores. These look like the type they sold for Rocker Arm and valve covers. Popular in the 50’s - 70’s along with lots of other types of engine chromed out parts.
If anybody here remembers port a walls this was the thing to buy to dress up your cars engine...

I replaced my sediment Bowl and I reused the old petcock after clearing the blockage on the top of it and the petcock is leaking not from the threads but the actual valve part, the spinning part. how might I be able to fix this? I did though disassemble the petcock valve to clean and uninstall and reinstall it but there was no gasket or anything.

Could someone help me identify the arm in the photo below. It is the length of a Pitman arm and has the same keyway notch but the unknown arm is straight whereas a pitman arm is angled at about a 45 degree angle. Anyone know what this straight arm fits?

No John, it is not an early one. My suggestion was purely to indicate that the easiest way to fix it is to buy a new one.

There is no filing on the ball I use to rebuild an early pitman arm. All except the last bit is done on a linishing belt on my bench grinder. It is quick and easy. The only filing is done to make the ground section round...

No washers, you need maximum thread engagement in our old castings. Even when you have the head re-surfaced it pays to clean out the holes and reuse the original bolts. Just fit the head without a gasket first, to check that you still have clearance.

Earlier today I came across some online photos of new clincher rims. They looked like a nice copy of Hayes rims. I did manage to find the company's website, which has contact info but not much detailed information. I don't know that I need a new rim, but somebody here might like to be aware of these.

You can powder coat the rims before rewooding, but I would never do it. When the wheel is built it will be tight on a paint layer, rather than on the steel of the rim. The paint will break down with use and there goes the tight fit of the felloes. You could give them a coat of metal etch primer that is nice and thin.

In my opinion, using a 1/2 tip on a 5/8 strap would be easier than trying to re-work a 1 tip.

Over the years I’ve used three different methods. They have all worked.
First I used the Full Penetration welding approach and after 45 years it still survives
Then I “invented” my taper/shrink approach and it works well

It's more stuck than anything. I replaced the three pedal return springs and tested the brakes (stopped the wheels from turning) but it stayed.
1) Pedal is wedged against the hogshead.
2) Back and forth play in the pedal.
3) Gap in the brake pedal.
So, how to fix?

The new cam arrived and I removed the brake pedal again but the new part has about 1/64 play whereas the one I built up has none . So, the cam that came with the coupe is back on it and all it sorted out with the brake band for now. The new part will go into my spare parts tool box.

I'm considering to replace the cast iron pistons with aluminium pistons. I can see I can choose between Grant and Hastings rings of which the Grant rings are considerably cheaper than Hastings.
What are the difference apart from price? And what are the recommendations?

I recall the original feed pipe pack nuts have the felt packing in them. From what I remember, they seemed to have been soaked in a sticky substance.
What is it that Ford put on those felts?

Thank you all for your help and ideas I looked at it closer and found that one of the rivets indeed has a larger head and a cut out on the angled bracket, I popped that off with a ball peen hammer and it folds right up now! :)
Now why didn't I notice this before when I was sandblasting it... :roll:

Should one put a washer BETWEEN the bottom (forward) hole of the rear bracket and the frame to make up for the thickness of the fender? The top (rear) hole goes thru the bracket and the fender. Or is the thickness of the fender so negligible that the bracket will just bend enough to pull it up against the frame anyway?

Car starts up and up and runs fine, then loses power & stalls out. Wait awhile starts up, repeat. Plugs look like this. Thoughts?

So the rear intake manifold seal is compromised. Is what's there a one piece gasket? Refurbishing that would mean exhaust manifold would have to come off too.

Can see about 4 in that round carton, so at today's price of $27 each (BTW they were $19 in 2019!).... you have about $100 worth. :)

Did you have the clock glass silvered?
Really neat idea!

It would be easy enough to mount a clock glass in the headlight
and light a good burner set as far forward in the burner slot as
you can get. Getting the burner forward may help save the clock glass.

If you are planning to build a generator test stand, I suggest you use a trouble free diode type cutout
Relay type generator cutouts are nothing but trouble you don't need.

The bodywork on my 14 Runabout is almost finished and shoulld be ready to paint in the next couple of weeks. The body had a nasty patch on the back coverering a big rust hole and several subpar patches along the bottom under the door and on the driver side.

Unfortunately, Vintage Rims NZ is no longer around. Gary retired and sent the tooling to the UK. The tooling is up and running again, but the exchange rate is not in our favor.

The rivets on the one in primer are not done by the factory. See how crude the peening is? It appears that someone made this version for some special purpose. Maybe to drive a PTO pulley???

Mine looks to be factory riveted once.
I get your point. & the 2 rivets seen are in 2 different directions on OP's.

Decided to make a post about my journey wooding, yes not re-wooding, my late father’s 1919 roadster. He had a customer wood setup and was very makeshift and not stable. Needless to say, it sure didn’t hold up after an almost serious accident. Coming up a road and a driver to my right inches out to block my lane and wait for the other lane to stop...

Only doing it on the weekends. So don’t have much done yet. Have several other things to work on with the car. Sand blasting all sorts of parts and refinishing. Also re-doing the wheels!

Wondering if I should replace this drive shaft now that it's out of my 1915 roadster. The thrust bearing cut a groove, visible in the photo. I'm installing a modern pinion bearing from Texas T Parts which I assume is the old Fun Projects design.

Look at it this way....there will never be an easier time to replace the shaft. The cost is modest and they are available. Don't forget the drive shaft bushing up by the universal or the universal itself.

Here’s a real Model T photo that’s actually real and shows what I think is a 16 T Touring. What’s interesting is the tool box on the running board and how’s its attached using extra long bolts. Makes me wonder why the long bolts used and maybe it’s all they had at the time?
The hood is covered for some reason and probably for cold weather using...

I don't know the proper term for this piece but it's that curved metal piece on the brake lever that holds the clutch in neutral when pulled back to 90° or fully back. Mine appears to be worn out. Is it supposed to be like that? It looks like the bolt has eaten into it is there a way I can fix this or do I have to replace that whole bar?...

Hold the left pedal in neutral , then move the lever to neutral , or pull it all the way back to park. That will eliminate most all wear on the bolt and cam face. Hold the little ratchet lever back when moving the hand lever so the ratchet won't wear.
Wipe the dirt off the parts once in a while and apply a little white grease to the cam....

Yikes! That isn't good :o

To again answer the question “About the level of the Ford name on the radiator” did a measure in the garage just now on two Ts, high radiator and brass radiator.

For FL, the coolant level best is above the core, and above the splash plate a bit.

So used a stick placed in the radiator, down to the top surface...

When I bought my 1926 Roadster, The owner gave me a photo of the car with Roy Clark standing next to it and beside him was a large movie type spot light on wheels. He told me my car was in a movie but after scouring the net I only found one movie with Roy and old cars in it. I'm guessing my car ended up on the cutting room floor? (ouch!)

When I bought my 1927, I had to get new floorboards, as those were all covered with a thick layer of carbon, because the exhaust pipe was cherry red and started the fire.

The temperature was only about 40 degrees on that late fall tour in Maine and the owner just thought everyone had started their wood stove early!
