Ford was the first to mechanize the masses with the Model T, leading to it becoming a prime target for all sorts of not-so-OEM gizmos we have come to enjoy collecting and even using. Let's see your machines and all the non-Ford goodies you have installed to make Lizzy suit your needs. About on average how many functional accessories do you use?

I’m waiting on the casting foundry in town to give me a price but would anyone be interested in the accessory windshield stanchion mount with running board plate spare tire carrier? I’ve seen a few of them but even fewer with the running board plate. If my measurements are correct, you’d me able to carry 21”, 30x3 and 30x3.5 tires.

My T Touring will take some time and require touching every aspect of the vehicle prior to being “road ready”.
Is a start-to-finish build thread acceptable in this forum? I’ve looked but don’t see any complete rebuild projects.

5:1 steering gears in a 1914 box

Does anyone know for sure if a '25-'27 steering gear set (5:1) will fit OK in a 1914 steering gear box? I find the original 4:1 a tad too direct at highway speeds (40-45 MPH).
Last post
You might considered staying with the 4:1 gearing, assuming everything from the road to the steering wheel is tight and in good adjustment, and adding a 17 steering wheel and adjusting caster/camber to the best advantage and setting toe-in to slightly favor understeer. Adjusting front/rear tire pressures might also be of benefit. Anything you can...

Replacing the notch replaces half the wear. To complete the job the corresponding working surfaces on the pedal need building back to spec. The pedal needs to come off the shaft, the wear surfaces built up and then the faces worked back into close contact. This refinishing is key to the job. It requires repeated filing, grinding, bluing, refitting...

Does anyone have suggestions and hopefully photos of where and how they attached speedometer cable support straps?
I know Model Ts did not come with straps, but the repros need the support.
The repro cable housings stretch and cause the sliding clutch to disengage. I'm hoping a strap will solve the problem.

I copied a little wire buckle from an old one on Kim Dobbins car. It's only about I square, and hangs from a engine splash pan bolt. From that I have a short leather strap. It's been on my cars for many years.

As far as quality is concerned if it’s to specification and made with quality materials that’s fine.
The other side is they could be made in the USA and we’re becoming more dependent on a country who knows what their doing to eventually take over the suits who make the decisions about where we’re going.

I cracked open all 3 to see whats going on inside.
2 have the same valve seat, and the third one has a completely different one.
As you can see, it has a guide for the valve needle, whereas the others do not.
Is this a later addon, or is this an earlier version?

Can anyone explain the correlated usage of the Marquette tire tool? I understand the bead breaker application, but the other parts of this tool are unknown. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. 20220720_155418 (640x480).jpg

Here is the detail instructions:
The tool has two ends, the taking off tire end has a ‘swivel hook’ that levers against the rim for pulling off the tire.

Pulled an unknown hub puller out of the evaporust bucket today. I'm unsure what it fits though. It's 2 7/8 diameter from the outside of the threads.
Last post
I suggest it may not be a hub puller per se... quite possibly it's for a pulley, gear wheel, flywheel or something similar.

Can any one give an explanation about the styles of open and closed exterior Model T door handles from 1908 to 1927?
Last post
I will agree as time went onward into the Model T production.
Changes were made to make the part less expensive to produce.
This made the cost of building the car less expensive and that could be pasted onto the consumer to purchase the Model T at a lower price.
I would think the earlier handles that were cast took longer to produce and more...

I find myself in possession of three complete 1928 Chevrolet motors, all with the complete overhead valve assemblies that people like to use on T's (theses are the ones with the dual intake and exhausts). That's a repair, or someone added it to prevent the fender from cracking, which they often did under hard use. It's also possible someone added it to stiffen the fender so they could carry more cargo on the running board.

I found a procedure in Fahenstock's book basically calling for 1/16 free play in the link between the pedal and the high gear lever. I'll try that, and put the rear axle into Ford direct drive instead of Ruckstell.

Use some lacquer thinner or mineral spirits on a small area and see if it will help dissolve the “dribbles”. Maybe use a small paint brush to apply it and clean out the areas between the fins. Or maybe some type of paint remover to see if it will soften the “dribbles”.

Blockley tires are also made in Nam. Only Blockley has much higher standards and thicker sidewalls. One that will become obvious when you are mounting them.

Glad you found the issue! I suppose since we live and work in a different era and use to our modern cars that have overall closer tolerances in their fit up we tend to think our Model T’s are the same or close to it.
Not So!
Years ago when I became interested in T’s it became apparent they were crudely built in a way and thinking about it we are...

The photo above contains a late Warford transmission cross member and the clamps that fasten it to the frame. The image below shows where it is located in relation to the transmission.
I'm looking for a photo or illustration that shows the transmission mount itself, which is fastened to the bottom of the cross member and then to the...

Fuel cap for a 1925 Tudor

I have a 1925 T Tudor that is missing a gas cap. The tank appears original, a cap for it looks like it would be a push and twist type. There are no threads. All the caps I see for Model Ts on the supplier sites are screw on which is the same or very similar to my 26 T.
I've attached pictures of the tank. Does anyone recognize this? Is it likely...

I blew up the photo as much as I could and I actually see three pins.
Two are readily visible, one is barely visible at 90° from the two that can be easily seen. It can barely be seen at the very surface level of the filler. I assume that there is a fourth pin located opposite of the one I just mentioned.
I'm going to make a guess, and this is...

Brakes - Rocky Mountain versus original rear drum brakes

Seeking comments on upgrading braking system. In speaking too other T owners I hear Rocky Mountain is preferred except for braking in reverse and heavy rain is a possible issue. So I see there is a conversion to use the conventional rear drum brake with shoes inside the drum which may shield from water and may not be a issue when backing in...

I have only used the emergency brake once since kids playing started to run across the road in a residual area, so I have changed my route to avoid where there is a lot of children. The one incident has triggered this investigation for additional braking capability and I use engine braking all the time.
The key is to be looking a head while...

Clutch and brake lever issues

First post
Last week I made a panic stop in my 24 touring from about 35 mph and slid the rear wheels about 40-50 feet. Since then the high gear clutch has been grabby, and the parking brake lever movement is stiff. Did I break, bend, or pull something out of adjustment?
Last post
I drove the car about 5 miles after the above picture, and another 5 miles after arriving in Hamilton, and could feel an occasional slight “bump” in the pedal on moderate braking. Upon checking the oil screen I found it completely plugged with lint, and even more of the end of the lining gone - time to change the brake band lining. Fortunately, it...

Does anyone know of any one who may have the 21 inner tube in stock. I'm batting zero so far, most vendors are out of stock with no real good idea of when they will be available. Thanks
Last post
I just bought two rubber stem tubes for Universal Tires.
They were actually shipped from Coker Tire, in Tennessee.
The two related 30 X 3 1/2 Wards Riverside tires were shipped from Lucas in California.

When the transmission in my 22 was rebuilt, we used the best of several transmissions lying around the garage. We had enough good parts to complete the rebuild. We also installed a new Watts clutch. We put it all back together and the car was back on the road. However, several months later when sorting/storing the left over tranny parts we...

Only if they have the clearance for the legs to fit between the housing and the gear.

Anyone know something about these all black (steel) Brown style 110 side lights. I see all brass and black with brass trim but not all black.
Last post
Mark,
Your John Brown 110's have the red jewels on the back panel of the lamp.
Those style lamps seem to have been used on the 1913 Models and
earlier 1914 style cars. The old photos indicate that is what happened and I
have a set on my car.
The progression appears to have been:
1) jeweled, 2) plain back panel (no jewel), both spade...

There appears to be a mint 1913 KW coil box switch on ebay now, that is on a master vibrator. They are identical to the one used on the 1913 KW coilbox. All you need to do is put your correct plate on it. I have used these often. They are asking $100.

I see two of them. (One is starting at $145) And they both have the Corbin brass plated lunch box style latches.

So I'm looking for what was used on the Mother in law seat strap button to hold the seat cushion down. It should be just a simple piece of leather that fastens to the front of the seat with a button snap? Anyone have a close up picture of what this looks like or what they used on theirs? I heard the original buttons are impossible to find. Thanks...

Mike-
The snap more than likely would have been an Anzo fastener. It is the same type of fastener that was used on the outer flap of the edge of tops that was used to attach the side curtains on early cars.
Here is how the Anze fastener works on 1911 side curtains:

That 6 Volt Starter does not mind using a 12 Power Pack to start the engine.
My 12 Volt Power Pack seemed to mind a lot and will no longer take a recharge.
The starter motor can handle it, but the Bendix won't for long.
