So I’m ordering up some lumber for my 12 delivery car body build. I’m building it as per the drawings that I have from the Benson Ford. The drawings show the sill runners being 2 3/8 x 1 1/2. I need 8 ft lengths. The sill runners are to be made of Ash. I called my local Amish millwork and they told me they can only get it in 2” x 2” widths. Anyone...

Instead of selling my Model T, I am considering contacting the local Ford dealership to see if they might be interested in leasing my 1926 Coupe on a month to month basis to display in their showroom. Has anyone ever done this? If so, what would be a fair monthly price to ask. Jim Patrick

Experimental "Watts" Clutch

A while back, RV Anderson bought the Watts clutch business from Mr. Watts when he retired. RV told me that the person who was making the friction material for those clutch discs retired as well, so he had to find a substitute material. He made a few with that material and sold me one to try it. He asked that I report back to him after I had put...
Last post
Richard G. -- Experimental was the term I used, but I don't recall RV calling it that. He just said he was trying a new material which he thought would work like the original Watts material. But he did say it was a new material and wanted feedback on it, so I thought that sounded like an experiment. I don't know whether he stayed with that...

Scary moments. I left the key in the ignition, and in the on position by mistake. Then hooked up the battery tender. First off you should have done a visual inspection off all the wiring and the distributor. An ohm meter is a good investment to check continuity of your wires and switches.it does not have to be a high dollar unit, any possibility of taking your points and condenser to your local parts house and see if they might be able to find a match. Doheny's Pan American Gas, based in California. Doheny made his pile drilling in Mexico. In 1922 he was accused of being involved in Teapot Dome, but eventually was cleared. Pan American was the biggest oil company in the USA at the time. In 1954 the company merged with Standard of Indiana to form Amoco.

Refer to the third photo in KBorket's April 11 post in What Have You Done to Your Model T in April . In this photo, there is a shut valve in the gas line between the sediment bowel and carb. Why is this needed when the gas can be shut off at the sediment bowel?

This is the type of gasoline filter/shutoff valve you should have on your Coupe. This one is missing the shutoff handle. You can see the handle in Dan Treace’s above photo. Jim Patrick

Everything under that hood looks very tidy, except for the pipe fittings. I'm thinking it was done on purpose to run kerosene, or a kerosene blend. Bill, the damage to your shell is testament to the need for the hood to fit correctly, at least at the front end. A poorly fitted hood will rapidly wear a brass shell if it is allowed to rub on the shell. I have saved one not quite so damaged as yours. It needed parts from a donor shell and a small fortune in 40% silver solder. I am not clever...

From the website on the swap. Note, some like me arrive Thurs afternoon and partial set up, but go to dinner early, don’t expect much activity on Thurs but if weather is good, vendors set out stuff and trades happen.

The news story above was found in the June 3, 1921, Lowell Sun newspaper (MA) while doing some racing research in New England. All quite true. Modern hot rods are sometimes equipped with a steel scattershield to prevent injury of the driver or demolishing the car if a clutch pressure plate or flywheel fails at high RPM.
The NHRA requires a scattershield on any clutch-equipped car running an elapsed time (ET) of 11.49 seconds or less. Not sure whether this is for 1/4...

Sometimes, the hole drilled to hold the Timer Roller in a correct position is drilled all the way through the Camshaft and that lets the spark be 180 degrees out with the piston position when the spark happens.
You can remove the spark plug and set it so it will spark when the engine is cranked over by hand.

The I-Timer is simply a drop in replacement for an existing mechanical timer. Mechanical contacts which cause intermittent connection as well as timing variations as the contacts wear, are eliminated. In simple terms, a magnet on the camshaft revolves around four magnetic pickups in the timer body. The advantage of course is that cylinder to...

If your pan is as flat and true as indicated, I'd be at variance with not using heat. Bending the arm cold will require really tying down the pan if there are not to be stresses added while bending. Heat will allow the arm to be shifted with far less stress on the actual pan. Either way, the pan should be checked again after the correction.

It doesn't hurt to drill part way through the pin, to the depth of the handle That way you have a locator for the pin punch. If it still wont move, step up the drill size until it almost breaks out the side of the pin. The belt the pin punch on what remains in the pawl.

In addition to the above, I would add that even a slight amount of wear at the float pivot or a very slight distortion of the needle or its seat could cause a significant change in the measured float level. FJ is probably right in his suggestion.
I bought a new 20 foot trailer to haul my 1925 pickup to Missouri to have my friend Wayne help me install top and seat back.
It worked out well.
I then bought a 28 foot trailer on a local list to haul a old airplane to California.

Jerry, if you saw the accumulated, solidified mass of dried lubricant and dirt which almost completely filled the brake drums on Henrietta when I fitted new lined shoes, you might change that observation. It was certainly creating some drag, but I seriously doubt grease in the pumpkin would have a detectable drag on power output.

Hello and Happy Easter time to everybody from Austria.
I own a 1916 Touring with Two Man Top. This top and the windshield somehow to not like each other and I want to ask what I can do.

The flap at the front should be attached at the rear of the front bow or at least wrapped around so that the rear of the two flaps fits above the windshield and the front one is flat to the front of the windshield.
One less expensive way to fix your problem if you have access to a good sewing machine, would be to remove the rear curtain and stitch...

Making your own side curtains is probably a good idea. Most home sewing machines will sew top material provided they have the proper needle. You will need a needle specifically designed for sewing leather. They have more of a chisel point, to puncture the material. If your existing machine cannot handle it (unlikely) you may be able to find a...

They hold air! So they are worth saving. The stem is 3 long, so fitting one bead of a clincher tyre and then trying to stuff the valve stem down the hole would be high on impossible, especially on a wooden felloe wheel.

I like the colorization, but I think the sound effects are better in a previous version. A highlight is still the guy with his beard blowing in the wind, a half century before the notorious Candlewind Park.

Whatever you do, DO NOT cut and weld the driveshaft! It's not if it will fail, but when it will fail(and it will), then you have no brakes. Do as was posted, machine either end to fit. Dave

yikes 50 board feet! Wood stores around here, don't have to buy that much. :o As I recall a board foot is 4/4 thick (1 inch un-planed) 12x12. If you need 1.25 (5/4) thick, I think you would need to get 1.50 (6/4) and surface it, but depends on finish of wood you were looking at.

'14's were made for 14 or 15 months due to the late introduction of the '15's. It was also a transition model year in that Dodge, which supplied lots of T parts to Ford, decided to introduce their own car. This irritated Henry Ford to no end (ya think?), so ford stopped buying parts from...

Lubrication of Springs on My 1927 Coupe

Someone has suggested that I lubricate just the bottom end 4 inches of each leaf and not the entire length. The reason being that lubricating the entire bottom of each leaf would make the spring too flexible.
The leafs have been primed, and I intend to paint them black before assembling the spring.
Comments would be appreciated.

Graphite Spring Paint (Also called Slip-Paint) , described as graphite dry film lubricate at $39.95 call Leaf Spring Paint , described as a black graphite alkyd based lubricating paint. It lists for $18.95 a quart.
Which is the better lubricate?”
Either should do the job nicely, or you can make your own. Did that years ago, messy but worked!...
