New Stanchion Mount Spare Tire Mounts

Update on my spare tire carrier project. I talked to the foundry the other day and they told me that the once the mold pattern is made it’ll be about a 3-4 week lead time until I get the carrier rough castings. Once I have those I’ll know what it’ll take to finish them. My hope is to have the end product, both top and bottom, be available ready to...

As I have noted in a few posts recently, I am a new owner of my first T. 1926 Coupe. Would love to get feedback from you all on the forum of best brakes to get. The LB guys are pretty special. They are polite. Enthusiastic. Non judgmental (at least to my face they aren't). Passionate about the T and just really nice guys. Should have mentioned that I'm running a VW pump from the cam. The idea remote filter bracket would have multiple outlets (2) one for the bearing supply and another for a pressure relief valve as well as a smaller port for a gauge or pressure switch. Thanks

My granddad used to say, Every picture tells a story. I wonder what this story is ? Probably Depression era, two young men looking for work, most likely prospects in Wyo at the time, herding sheep or shoveling hay. Or maybe they went broke in Wyoming ?

I can tell you a bit about the photo.
My grandfather Lee Patterson (left) and his friend Delwin Jackson left their homes in Laredo, Grundy County, Missouri to find work in Wyoming in 1929. They were both eventually employed by a Mr. Armstrong to break broncs. The trip took a scant 3 days and 2 nights.

Are there any good alternatives to the steel fuel line? This is for my 1919 nonstarter touring. I was thinking of something more flexible. I am not sure I will be able to properly bend the steel line without kinking it.
Is bending the steel line easier than I think it is?

I have copper fuel lines. Never a problem and no crimping. Neoprene or felt, whatever I have handy. Just make sure the line is a bit long so it pushes into the fitting and cannot fall out.

Dr Liston took some time from his busy practice and had his roadster photographed in Bellows Falls, VT near the Connecticut River. The source of the photo, the Rockingham Library has dated it as being taken on June 12, 1913. Note the added electric horn.
The photo is enlargeable.

I'd love to have a 1913 roadster.
I would as well. When I was about 10 or 12 I got a ride in one on a tour and we followed my family in our '24 T York-bodied depot hack which is heavy and slow. The lightweight roadster could do rings around it going up hills and also had a much smoother ride.

Looking at that tire it appears as you get further down that the tread is gone from the edges also.. over inflated and took the tread out of the middle and then under inflated and took off the edges. Gets all the mileage out of them he can that way.

Just looking to see if anyone might know/remember what size they used when re-installing the kick panels, Not the upholstery nails that hold on the welting, rather the tacks that attach the kick panels to the wood frame. My '25 roadster uses nothing, and I'll bet the touring doesn't either.
It is prior to your '25 Runabout, no metal channel/clips to hold the right-front and part of the left-front kick panel, but there are still tacks to hold the panels in place on a '25. Because of the metal channel/clips on a '25 Runabout, there may or may not be tacks along...

When the lifter guides are bored to the max and there is still too much play, what do you use to bring the bores back to standard or at least the first OS?
I've heard of using a flange bushing with the flange at the bottom pressed into a circle milled out under the guide. Should be an easier fix with just a thin steel bushing.
What do folks do?

I replaced the tires on my '26 Canadian Touring (15 years, thousands of miles, zero flats). Given the uncertain quality of new tubes, I'm reusing the 15-year old Universal brand tubes and hoping for the best.
Anyway, four of my rims have the common hinge-pin joiners (lower photo) and the fifth has a screw-thru-tongue latch system (upper photo)....

The type with the slotted retaining bolt is what I and most 26-27 owners consider correct for those years. They replaced the earlier rotating latch type rim. I have seen pictures of the piano hing type, before, but never knew they were Canadian.

That carb has no provision for an in-cab choke. If your car has an electric starter, that would be inconvenient. Later G's had an additional arm on the choke lever for that. You could swap out the choke for a later one if need be. If you always use the Armstrong starter when the engine's cold, then it's no problem.

I’ve been working on airplanes for nearly 40 years, and Teflon tape of any kind is taboo in fuel and oil applications. I used Permatex #2 on the pipe fitting of my “24 touring’s new brass sediment bowl because that’s what I had on hand. After I get the new steel fuel line and reworked cylinder head installed I’ll gas it up and see how it holds.

What holds the das to the cowl

A friend is trying to remove the dash from the cowl and says he can't get it apart on a 24. I did not know how but knew someone here would. Any ideas about how to separate would be appreciated. It appears to have an edge crimp, similar to HVAC duct work joint?

Thanks for the responses. After hearing and cooling and lube, several times, it finally came apart.

When I got my car, about a year ago, it ran very well. After some weeks of driving, it began to run somewhat rough. I inspected the timer (New Day) and found it to be full of metal powder. I replaced it with a spare, and the car ran much better for a day or so, then began to run rough. I found the second New Day timer to also be trashed out. After...

Hey All!
I am taking a 1916 touring car apart to learn about and restore. It has been a lot of fun. I removed the rear upholstery and found three vertical bars
from the seat to the top of the body. This a new project to me and my first Model T. Is this normal construction?
Thanks,

It's correct and it is what supports the back springs. I'm curious as to what were you expecting to find and why you question this. In any event, some bodymakers did this in wood and some in metal.
Pictures will help determine if the 3 pieces are original or cobbled up replacements.
glad you found a car to your liking and good luck with the...

Russ Furstnow and I are currently having discussions on oil cans. Russ recently posted some very nice photos of tools and oil cans he believed to be correct for various years. It's a great article except for the oil can he uses for each and every year! I stand by my research that the oil can pictured for the early cars is a Maple City...

You are dead wrong to ever use artists drawings in a Ford document as proof of anything. AND, why must it have had the ford script? Because orig Larry smith says so? Ha! Where or what organization may I apply/request to purchase/get a Century Plaque for 100 year old Model T's? These are engraved or acid etched metal plaques (generally oval in shape, approximately 2 x3 ) that indicate that the vehicle is in fact 100 or 100 plus years old. I'm told that pictures of the vehicle, its serial number and title...

I used a couple of these to mount my Ford to the radiator. I assume you could use them to mount the badge to the radiator. I slipped heat shrink over the threaded portion to reduce the chance of damaging the radiator tubes and backed up the metal washer with a rubber one for the same reason.

Early Town Cars are different.
First of all there was plenty of room behind the steering wheel as the column was shorter than a touring. ( about 9 from memory) hard to find the remains of an original, so everyone uses standard Ford chassis bits and new builders who I have had contact with over the years were oblivious of the fact.
As to weight,...

Usually period part numbers from the Canada and USA parts books do correspond with each other but when it comes to the tops, not so, you may be modifying things to fit.
Also what is evident in the parts books is that Canada started in 1920 with the 1 man top for touring and the USA was 1922.

Planning on getting a '26 T and using an enclosed trailer, was kinda hoping to keep the top raised?
Can anyone measure how tall the car is with the roof raised?
Thanks,
Jim

Trailer is a little different than a garage the car tries to angle up a bit when coming in. My Roadster fits nicely in a trailer with an 80 opening on my trailer with no issues and I am running 21 x 5.25 (a smidge taller than stock) tires.

My thrashed '21 still had the pans. It was also STD. bore and had the original Ford script head gasket leaving me to believe that the engine had never been worked on. This car was completely thrashed and then driven 10's of thousands more miles. Way Way past being simply wore out.
