When the Stromberg OF was sold to mount in a Model T, it came with a choke control that mounted on the steering column. Anybody try the fuel scent additives? I know there has been many complaints from the wives about the Ts stinking up the garage, but I guess that goes beyond Ts because they now sell additives that emit all kinds of flavors from your exhaust to make the wife happy. As others have pointed out, your timer appears to be dry as a bone which has resulted in premature wear to the roller and contacts ring. Timers need to be lubricated fairly often with oil or thin grease to prevent this wear.

Peter, I went back to your distributor post and checked out the photo you posted. Based solely on what I could see of the right hand hood shelf, your car is not a 1926 model. That would explain why you have no wide brake band/drum on the transmission. Some more photos of the car would help.

Hey folks. Does anyone have some old left overs out there in their garage, barn etc that they would be willing to part with for a price?...
Last post
How about putting the threaded end of the new oval headed screws in a drill press and while running, sand off the plating, then bury the screws in a container of wet dirt until they achieve the amount of rust and age you desire or until the patina matches the original ones in your car. Jim Patrick

So I have a very small seeping leak from where the sediment bowl goes into the gas tank. I'm thinking that the guy who redid the tank for me hat the threads painted. I did as well with the sediment bowl. I used a gas approved sealent but I still have a small leak. So I'm thinking I need to get a tap for pipe threads. Are these 1/2 inch threads?...

Another trick I have used in these situations is lead, super clean the male pipe thread and run a bead of solder around the threads. If done right the solder will run around the threads and create a perfect seal. If the first attempt fails it can be reheated and the unwanted solder can be brushed off, some times the brushing can make a perfect...

Linus,
You have us tempted. It is a long haul from Western Canada to the host location.
A number of us from our Foothills Model T Club have been on three different extended camping tours.
One to the Rocky Mountains, one to the Northern Boreal forests and one Prairie trip.
The longest trip was about 300 miles in total.
Lots of great memories........

Should you just ground your generator output? Should you remove your generator? Purchase an alternator? Carry a charger and charge battery whenever you stop? Can you switch to a deep cycle battery and run on 12V? They still make 6V cutouts for tractors and Model A - will that work?
Just throwing the options out there as we learn to deal with this...

Is there an easy way to form/spread the tabs on '26-'27 wire wheel repro hubcaps? They fit too loosely right out of the wrapper. I need to spread the tabs and was hoping there's a better way than just mind numbingly bending tabs individually one at a time. Is there anything that is correct size I can press the hubcap over to spread the tabs????

Inspected the caps today. All are tight and not turning due to the RTV goo that was applied during install. I should be fine now. 😉

How is a gas line routed on a Torpedo?

Torpedo or Speedster both have their gas tanks behind the seat instead of under them. Is the gas line routed directly to the frame and then up to the carb, or is the line routed straight to the transmission and then to the carb? Where or how many support clamps are used? 1 or 2?

Bravo Mark!
I used that document to route a line for a friend's Torpedo 2 years ago and could not find it, thinking it was part of the MTFCA forum somewhere. I'd saved it as a valuable document, but did a poor job of documenting it by name.

A screen door brace can be used on sagging T open car doors also. Without taking everything apart and if the wood is good in a door that would be the thing to do I think. Hope that’s what the sagging issue is instead of the body pillars or sills wood.

That is a terrific photo and I love it every time I see it. The detail of parts scattered about the shop is great. Not to mention the prospect of beams slipping.
Here are a few comments from before.
Many of the new folks on the forum have not had the chance to see it. The rest of us will still enjoy it.
Thanks

Is there a source for Hartford tubes in the US? I need a pair of 30x3s. The only source I see currently is in the UK.
Barring that, is there an alternate reliable tube available in the US?

Trying to find someone who can work on my 1919 engine and transmission. It has severe crankshaft end play, needs rebabbiting. Transmission also needs a look-at. I've been told piston rods may be bent as well. Valves are fine. There is also an explicably large hole cut in the timing gear case, plugged by someone quite a while ago.

I puzzled about what car it was. I'm thinking it's a 1910 Model 16 or Model 10 Buick Surrey. They both had that funny disc above the spider.

I'm trying something new. I've created my first Model T YouTube video. I haven't publicly released it yet. This link will allow you to view it. I am interested in your comments and suggestions. Then I'll do a final edit, and publish it. Who knows... if this goes well I might try another Model T video sometime.

When the box containing four 1914 Heinze coils arrived at my place I couldn’t wait to open it and see what I got. It was a word of mouth purchase. This style of coil units were made to conform to Ford’s specifications to fit their new steel coil box dimensions and contact post placement. These boxes were introduced during the 1913 model year. Sometime during the 1913-1914 conversion to the Williams designed KW coil Ford had a need for additional coils to meet production needs.
The Heinze coil you describe was purchased to meet those requirements. The size and terminal spacing are the same as the Ford/KW coils used up till the end of Model T production. They are no very common but do...

That MIL roadster with the boy in back bugs me. It does appear to be a model T Ford, left side driven, sidelamp looks right. The front fender would indicate a 1909 or 1910 model. The front fender looks like it could be gray? The standard color for the first 3/4s of 1909 (roughly speaking?) was gray for the roadsters.
However, the seat does not...

You can also use them for the transmission cover. There you only need two. Install them before you remove the cover and take them out after you replace it, so there's no chance of dropping one into the Black Hole of Misery.

Bruce. Good decision. You are doing the right thing by restoring and using the original starter foot button. I doubt if there is any insulation in the upper half of the button. The steel shaft inside the plunger is riveted to the button cap, which is connected to the two contacts and making constant contact with the steel casing of the upper...

To me it’s like finding a setting that’s right for the carb for your paticular car. And we all know it’s not exactly 1 1/4 turns for every T!
