Thanks for the information about the Timken number.
I found two bearings here near by at a hardwear shop.
It was Old Stock and the seller was happy to get ride of it, they are sold out at that place.

As many of you have already read, I am installing new 21” Goodyear tires (with steel reinforced beads) and flaps onto the split rims of my 1926 coupe. Is it remotely possible (has anyone here done it) to install them onto the split rims without splitting the rims and keeping them locked. The lock latch’s are very old and delicate and could break...

Omg, this is really some work! I can see how difficult it must be to work with tires as the disc is totally bent. What I was thinking about is that you might still look for the new discs. Otherwise the car won't get too far withoiut losing pressure in tires. I was browsing all-weather tires some time ago and saw many different sizes and models and...

Any ideas about how to treat these inside door panels. It looks like they were originally painted black? I would like them to show their age and not be totally black but rather something in between. This car seems to have been lightly used in it’s century of use. I’d like to show that historic patina and yet show its best side.

The Centerdoor isn't too bad to get in if you enter from the passenger side and fold the passenger seat forward. It does require a bit of planning to get your feet in the right place while entering but once you get that down it's not that hard. I can do it with a bad back and knees.

Assuming that the length of the spokes is equal and the wheel is concentric. The side wobble can be helped by marking the area that leans toward the center of the car. Then carefully sand just a small amount in that area on the side of the spokes which face the hub. Try again and when it is very close, tighten up in a cross direction and peen the...

Even the green paint you say the prior owners applied looked original to me. Even if it wasn’t it looked too good to remove and what was under the paint was factory original. Paint it. The window channel areas on Ts I've worked on tend to hold water, then they rust. Paint will seal it a little better.

Last post
Yes, prime them. Use a very dark primer, like black, for the reason John mentioned. Sand with a fine grit (at least 800), and finish with your gloss black. I would use spray rather than brush.
I agree with Steve. I would use Rust0leum appliance Black. In my opinion it has a smoother finish and brighter shine then the regular rust0leum.

You will have to compensate for the sloppy worn holes in the low pedal & clutch shaft lever. Oversize clevis pins are an option untill you ever remove the H/H & can weld the holes back to the original size.

Hello Brent,
The measurements I have are from an old set of wood plans for a 1914 Roadster. The windshield frame brackets are 4 inches from the outside edge and 3/4 of and inch and 1 3/4 inch from the top of the firewall. The top hole for the side lamps (for jno Brown) are 5 1/2 from the top and 1/3/4 from the edge. If you have E & J lamps use 8...

I have a set of RM brakes for a small drum car. they have the six whole large drum adapter. I have wire spoked wheels with five holes. I can get a five hole large drum adapter and use that. If that works, is it possible to used these brakes on a 27?

Or you could sell them and buy AC brakes, which work backing up as well as forward. If I remember correctly you are in the almost-state of Franklin. I believe that's hilly enough country to make external brakes in both directions a good idea.
That would be my choice.

I can attest to the value of a project hack. My 12 year Hack project has cost me more than triple of what I could have bought a turn key completed car.
I can also say when it coming to family and settle the estate, if you want it for sentimental reasons, buy it back at the estate auction. That will shut the nay sayers down on price quibbling....

The brass comes from the wand. The solution is the vehicle that transfers the brass.
Engineers use controlled electrolysis to transfer the desired metal coating from an anode (a part containing the metal that will be used as the plating) to a cathode (the part to be plated). The anode and cathode are placed in an electrolyte chemical bath...

I just purchased a wire wheel from Facebook Marketplace. It has surface rust, nothing very deep. It would make a good wheel, expect for one little fact that the seller neglected to disclose. It has a huge crack all the way around, just inside the bolt holes!
So, now what do I do with it? I'm thinking it might make a decent spare wheel if fixed?...

I doubt a professional welder would touch that job. Now if it was the last wire wheel in the world that would be different. It could hold the car up while your wood wheels were being built.

Assembling a 12 roadster and need to know the size of the bolt that passes through the frame brackets (ears) at the rear and the holes in the body bracket. The holes are too large for a 3/8x24 bolt. Would like to know before I purchase them.
Last post
The appearance is the same as the front and center, only longer. I too have used flywheel bolts. There are no bolts anywhere with an 11/16 head anymore, any length!

Type of steel in the 1926 Ford front spring

Depending on where the steel was used on the Model T Vanadium steel was used in different mixtures in creating the various alloys Ford used in the construction of the Model T. From what I have read, vanadium made the steel lighter while maintaining its strength. I was curious as to what type of steel was used by Ford in making the 1926, Ford...
Last post
After a quick review, vanadium is not used in leaf springs, but manganese is as well as some trace elements such as silicon. Carbon content at 4 to maybe .8 percent.
More recent springs have some chrome and magnesium.

Today I took the glass for the windshield, doors, quarter panels, and rear window to the local glass shop. I will replace them with tempered glass. They measured the glass. It measured 1/4 for every piece except the quarter panel pieces which measured 3/16 .
Is that normal or an odd situation? They can provide both thicknesses.
Last post
I am embarrassed it took me this long to get Tim his answer.
Great info, Tommy! Just for snicks, what is , say a coupe door glass, in tempered glass cost up in the motor city? The last time I checked around here, wing wing tempered glass quote gave me a heart attack. Of course, in the sticks, we have to send out for everything to a big city....

I just submitted a thread yeasterday to get your opinions on my spark plugs and the consensus is that they look fine, so, my gaps are probably set properly, but I’m going to ask this anyway. Regarding the Champion X spark plugs… I know the instructions that came with the plugs recommends a gap of .025, and that is what I have always used, but...

Thank you all for your responses. Those are brand new, never used plugs I bought from Snyder’s 10 years ago and recently sold on eBay. The buyer was very happy with them. Jim Patrick

I just purchased a 1916 model T. With the purchase I received 8 buzz boxes, only 3 will buzz. I understand you can purchase new and rebuilt boxes, but I want to try and fix some of the ones I have. I watched many of the videos on YOUTUBE and learned a lot about a buzz box, but I have a lot to learn. I checked the secondary windings and set aside...
Last post
That Buzz Box will show you the coil is bad, if there is no spark at all.
It will not show you the random misfires, mostly caused by a bad capacitor.
So, it will fake a good coil for you, if nothing else.
The original capacitor is just about always bad and you can get sparks with it cut out of the circuit, but the points do not last very long....

Some of the paint colors cost a lot more than others.
Red cost more than yellow when I did my wheels.
It may be only true for the mix together epoxy paints, as Rustoleum spray cans are all the same price.

They come from Fuel Tank and Radiator Servicein Queensland, Australia. Much cheaper direcr from them, especially if you ordet a few sets to spread the postage costs.
They can be chamfered to make them easier it to fit. They can be re-used.
