6.7 Ford PS upgrade Heads Up
I know some of you have a 6.7 PS diesel. S&S Motorsports is coming out with a new high pressure pump to replace the famous CP4 pump. This CP4 is famous for failing and trashing out you fuel system. If any of you have had a CP4 fail you know how bad it is. Looks like a good job. I can post link to YouTube video showing it if you want.

Personally, if I did not own a 6.7 FORD, I would make sure that status quo was maintained.
When companies make money marketing a very much needed "Disaster Prevention Kit", that should be a clue and a warning for anyone seeking to buy such a vehicle

We have a few of these 6.7 trucks on the farm. another was a chevy with the Duramax also a Bosch CP4. I have had to replace the entire fuel system before and after that nightmare I chose to go the fuel additive route. all fill ups require a fuel additive with lubricant in them. so far, all the trucks are happy after 3 years. the Bosch pump has a steal piston in an aluminum bore. with fuel these days extra lubricant in the fuel system is a must. water is also a problem so keeping up the fuel filter maintenance is key. I could see the disaster kit as a plus. it will save the fuel system if it fails but you will still need to replace the pump. it's a big job....

Sean: While I own a 15 F250 I have to agree with Scott. If I was looking at a used truck it would have to be cheap as ####. Here is reason. I was at Ford dealer while back and asked about the CP4 thing, thinking it was a lot of BS. They had two in there that had gone south. Out of warranty cost was $12000 + on each one. Also warranty does not help. They send fuel samples for warranty work to Ford and if there is any h2o, gas or anything not diesel fuel found, no warranty for you. One of the trucks there had gas in fuel, and owner had fuel records and said never put gas in truck, no warranty. It could have been station mistake, still no warranty.
My truck has the S&S kit on it. This will not keep the pump from exploding, just keep the crap from going everywhere.

I was a Involved with fleet management for nearly all of my career. Newly retired. Have seen gelled diesel take out the pumps (supplier did not deliver the winter mix ordered) and know the pains of repairing this issue. From what I can see it's about $4k for parts alone without the filter trap. The truck I will be getting is coming with the business I will be buying. An industrial tire chain company, or the west coast territory anyway. Cab off pump replacements don't sound fun, but my new shop has a bridge crain, so maybe a little easier that the next guy? The company is over 100 years old, so I am going to get the patters for T tires and see if I can't fab up a set.

When the CP4 fails it fills fuel system from one end to other with metal shavings. This mess fuel lines, injectors, filter housings, tank, everything. It all has to be replaced, no way to clean it. Parts alone are $8000.00.
CP4 disaster kit traps it on a new filter. So all you replace is the CP4. Does not stop it from happening, just contains it.
Ford dealer told me not a case of if it will happen just when.
This dealership would not sell kit or install it, so not a case of them trying to sell me something.
There is a case action law suit about this.

Another reason I have a 6.2 gas F250. Diesel engines cost a lot more to buy and it seems to maintain. I can buy a lot of gasoline for the difference.
