Quiz from a 1959 Popular Mechanics

Post by KBurket » Sun Aug 27, 2023 1:00 am

I picked up a January 1959 Popular Mechanics magazine at the Lemay Marymount car show and auction today.
Thought this quiz was interesting.
I’ll confirm the correct answer (according to the magazines page 268) if anyone figures it out.

My guess would be about a 1922 T but the wheels are not stock.

I think it might be a 490 Chevy. So many makes look similar. The cowl is too low for a Maxwell and the rear fender isn't Dodge.
When did I do that?

I'm curious about the article's comment about the top. It appears to be the same as the current photo of a 490 Cheby. (I'll go with 490 Chev too)

I see no reason for the comment about the top either. It looks the same to me as Adrian's picture. Thanks Adrian. The upholstery trim and bow arrangement is identical too. Also, the bow hanger at rear.

The magazine’s answer seemed fishy to me.

Well, they were correct, it's not a Ford top !

But they sure missed the boat identifying the car !
I hope they did a better job on the fish eggs.
