Speedometer gear on metal spoke wheel

Post by nicklm » Tue Aug 17, 2021 6:25 pm

We have a 1926 improved touring. We are changing our wooden wheels to the metal spoke wheels. The gear that is attached to the wooden wheel has screws into the wood. How is this gear attached to the metal hub? Is there another gear or a method to attach this gear to the hub?
Thanks for any help.
Nick

The road gear you need is part number 31376. While this is a rare gear, I have seen them for sale on this forum. I hope this helps. Russ Furstnow

Thanks Russ. Does anyone on the form have this part and willing to trade/sell?
I appreciate any help.

I recently installed the gear that Russ mentioned. It has the mounting holes slight offset to clear the wheel studs. You still need to drill and tap the hub and use spacers to attach the gear.

Thanks, Andy. Could you post a pic. to see what you have done? I can get an idea of what or how to make something work out.
I appreciate your help.

Sorry, I didn’t take any pictures and the car isn’t here. I just put the hub in the lathe and scribed a line so the bolt circle stayed concentric. I used 1/4-20 slotted screws and made the standoffs long enough to clear the wheel. Basically the same as a wood wheel.
