Scott Conger's Float-Valve
I recently installed one of Scott Conger's enlarged aperture float-valves in my NH carburetor and I'm just delighted at the far more authoritative way my car goes uphill. The difference is quite noticeable.

Yes. Have one in my 21 Touring and I experienced the same thing. My son drove my it, not knowing about the valve, on a tour and noticed the difference on long hills right away.

I have one of Scott’s big valves on one of our cars. I was talking to someone about it and how well it worked on hills, etc. This fellow said I don’t want one because I’ll burn more gas. I just really didn’t know how to respond to that comment!

I checked my mileage before and after installing the valve. NO change! Just better performance.

Before I upgraded to my Stromburg OF I added Scott's full flow to my NH and enjoyed the improved hill climbing near of former house. 3 or 4 mhp at the tip of the hill! Never noticed lower gas milage from it.

Using the improved valve assembly will NOT adversely affect fuel mileage. It could improve gas mileage under some circumstances by allowing a car to climb a steeper hill in high rather than low.

No California sales? Is that because of the vehicle emission standards there? Would they apply to a vehicle that old- one that did not have any emission equipment to start with?

I bought mine several years ago - February 2019. No restriction to California at that time. Maybe it's a sales tax issue now.

I think Scott is taking a little breather from the forum and from some of his Model T activities....too much unnecessary drama on the part of some folks. I find that too bad because Scott has always been a source of sound advice. I understand the valves will be available for the foreseeable future but I cannot tell you why they can't be sold in California.

There should be no change in fuel mileage because whenever the float bowl is full the mixture will be the same as it is controlled by the mixture needle. Only time it might change is when the float level drops because it is not being replenished by the small valve. At that time the mixture will be lean or the engine will stop. Anyway, the fuel mileage is dependent on how many steep hills you climb and how fast you accelerate. So if you go easy on the throttle it should be the same and maybe even better because you will be able to drive in high gear more of the time.
