The lack of running boards and lack of headlights indicates to me that it is probably a N I’ve never seen doors like that on an N R or S and the fenders are larger and more elaborate than the ones on my N. The top is nearly identical to mine. My car is not running yet and the top is not on it right now but I imagine that yes it will be quite the wind scoop and impossible to see out of. When done I doubt that I drive it much with the top up.

That front fender looks like it would scrape out all the ruts and snow from the road. Could be a problem on snow or muddy roads.

It is most certainly a 1906 production Model N:
- buggy rail for the top fastens to tabs that come Thru the seat all the same height around the back of the body.
- clearly has the smaller 28x3 wheels rather than the 30x3 of the R.
- bail handle sidelites and horn on the steering column are consistent with N production only.
- buggy type step plate is still in position. You can see it hanging out several inches below the running board on the opposite side.
- looking thru the rear fender, the amount of flat deck showing next to the trunk is consistent with the narrow pointed tail of the N body. My R tail is much wider.
Fenders and running boards are an aftermarket kit, as well as the top and doors. Most people dont understand that it was actually the NRS series that kick started the automotive aftermarket. Ford built over 15,000 of them. Improved ignition systems and updated fenders and running boards were the majority of offerings.
The photo in front of the Piquette Plant shows the R in the Porter Collection that is on display there. The 2 old photos show the R with larger wheels and a very different fender and running board profile. The tabs for the buggy rail for the top are located around the top of the seat, as they were on later Ns, Rs, S Runabouts and S Roadsters. Lamps are square. And the old photo with a top, you can see how wide the tail of the body was seen thru the rear fender.
