Stutz Dual Cap Distributor

Post by Chris Haynes » Wed Feb 26, 2025 8:16 pm

I just bought a car with a Morton and Brett OHV head on it. The car is set up to use the type of distributor used on four cylinder Stutz and a couple other makes. My distributor is missing and I need a replacement. If you know of one PLEASE let me know.

Contact Tom Van Meeteren- he specializes in early ignition parts and probably has what you need. Just FYI, it is possible to adapt early 4 cyl Jeep cap and rotor to a Stutz ignition. The rotor fits right on the dist cam, but the cap needs some lathe work and a lock ring for the OD to retain the cap on the clips.

Here is the e-mail I have for Tom- he posts on here from time to time.

That’s good to know Dan. I got rid of one because the “correct” parts were were really expensive.

Dan- can you post the year of jeep or part number of the distributor cap and rotor that will work with the early Delco unit?

I made this 35 years ago, but pretty sure they are '48 4 cyl Jeep with Autolite IAD series distributor. Cap is a Standard Motor Parts AL35.
The Rotor is a Standard Motor Parts AL85. The rotor is a drop in. The cap needs to be machined to the proper height and to register on the Delco Remy /Stutz housing.

Thank you Dan, This info certainly spares much frustration and dollars finding caps and rotors.
