Early Dodge Bros flywheel

Post by KimDobbins » Sat Jul 19, 2025 10:41 pm

Got this fairly early flywheel from Jeff Hood at the Long Beach Swap Meet today. I don’t recall ever seeing “Dodge Bros” cast in the flywheel .

Didn't Ford and Dodge Brothers have some type of collaboration along the way during the early teens? I was thinking they made parts for Ford and later started building their own cars.

The flywheel in my 14, transmission shaft date 1-22-14 has it the same style as is on the spark and gas quadrant. Clutch disc drum has the DB in an oval.

Most of the Dodge Bros parts I have sent have Ben forgings rather than castings. That's anew one on me.

The Dodge Brothers owned 10 percent f the Ford Co. starting in 1903. The first Ford chassis were built by Dodge. The Ford Co slowly began to make parts or buy elsewhere and by mid 1914 the Dodge company did not supply Ford. The first Dodge auto was the 1915 model The brothers both died around 1922 and the Dodge Co was bought by Chrysler around 1926.
