1908-1910 Magneto parts Dug up in my yard...

Post by CaliCat » Tue Mar 24, 2026 5:09 am

Hi there friends, My name is Cat and my partner and I bought a home on a couple acres in Doty, Washington. Our home was built in 1925 and Doty once was a bustling logging town, company owned, with hotels, saloons, schools, bowling alleys, movie theaters, a YMCA and a population of 3,000. Now, we have a general store with post office boxes and about 200 residents. We're very rural and we are a stone's throw from the beautiful river. Now that the back story is out of the way, I have been busy getting our yard cleaned up preparing for my garden. As I get my shovel and later, hands, into the fertile soil, I have come across some automobile parts that were buried. They have been identified by people more knowledgeable than I, as magneto components for a 1908-1910 Ford, Model T. There's definitely some corrosion having been in the ground 100 years! I've dug up some of the magnets which still have a touch of magnetism left. Tiny brass spools, some heavy pieces that I don't know what they are called. I thought I'd see if anyone would be interested in the parts I'm digging up. I don't know if they would be structurally sound, due to corrosion but there is some historical significance. I'm cleaning the parts up now and I will post some pictures of what I've got so far if there's any interest. You'd need to pay for shipping but otherwise these are yours for the taking. Ciao~Cat

Actual 1908 to 1910 model T magneto parts would be very rare indeed! It remains to be seen whether the parts are usable or not.
It follows that about fifteen million model T Fords were later manufactured that are not 1908 to 1910.
I (and I am sure many others?) are looking forward to seeing photos of the pieces.

It would have the double stack coils on a stamped steel magneto ring, kind of like this:
