Stewart Warner Model 490 Cable Suggestions

Post by ModelTWoods » Wed May 13, 2020 4:56 pm

The Stewart Warner Model 490 speedometer was made with two different types of attachments for the cable to speedo head. The early (1926) just jammed the end of the cable in a hole in the head and the cable was held in by a retaining bracket and a screw in the head. The later (1927) type used a ferrule on each end of the cable to secure the cable. I have three early heads that use the 'jam and clamp' arrangement and the only reproduction cable currently available is the later type with a ferrule on each end. What cable can be used as a substitute or replacement for the early type? Also, according the the MTFCA Speedometer book, written by Russ, the original cables were 63" long, but the current replacement, in addition to having ferrules on both ends (and no retaining bracket), are listed at 60" long. Anyone with suggestions, especially Russ, if you are reading this.
