Armidale Kempsey road 1920s

Post by Rich Eagle » Tue Sep 05, 2023 4:55 pm

"Armidale Kempsey Road Bullock Drays 1920s, another photo from John Caling, this time a family shot on the Armidale Kempsey Road on the way to holiday at Port Macquarie." It's interesting how much life looked the same in many parts of 6the world in the Model T era.

I wonder what the reason for stopping and taking this photo was.

When did I do that?

After two pots of coffee in the morning before the trip they had to stop sometime!

Looks like a tent in the upper left corner by the telegraph pole.

Notice the car facing the camera has a different radiator than the cowl. Looks like it might be a 26-27 High radiator originally nickel plated.

The front fender and hood former says that is a heavily used 1915/'16 runabout with the much later radiator!

Wonderful photo.
Thanks all.

Is it an optical illusion, or is the car facing the camera, right hand drive?

The reason for the stop - RnR. There is a tent pitched on the left and possibly another towards the right.

The past is a great place and I don't want to erase it or to regret it, but I don't want to be its prisoner either.

It does look like a steering wheel on the right and the horn is also on that side.

This is New South Wales, Australia. Port Macquarie is still a holiday destination.

It looks like the two guys in the middle have slouch hats and puttees covering their lower legs so they are possibly ex Army.

This area had a lot of timber harvesting at that time. I’ve got an interesting timber-getters marking hammer that came from here. If I can find it I’ll post a photo.
