Runabout Turtle Deck Lid Prop

Post by Mark Osterman » Wed Oct 07, 2020 5:57 pm

Got tired of having the lid whack me on the hand ... and don’t want it to leave a permanent dent in the new top. So, I drilled two small holes on the inside of the lid and the turtle deck and inserted a stiff removable rod with the ends bent inward.

I know the problem Mark. I use a stick with V-notches at both ends on my '15 to prevent the head banging.
Good solution.

When did I do that?

Nice job. My car came with a roughly 18" long piece of wood thin enough to use as gas dip stick, and it also made a decent trunk prop. (Unfortunately it disappeared on a tour.)

I have a 1919 Runabout and have to remember to use some sort of stick or dowel to prop up the deck lid if I’m changing the battery or something.
I also have a 24 Coupe that has a trunk lid support arm that Ford supplied with the Coupes.
Ford equipped the more expensive Coupe closed cars with a deck lid support but not the lower priced open cars.
A little here and there to make the open cars a little cheaper!
