Position of burner

Post by dykker5502 » Thu Oct 08, 2020 7:14 am

Hi,
I received my headligths from Ross Benedict and they look great.

During assembly of the burner, I am in doubt what is the correct position of the "Y":

I believe "A" is the right?

Image A. Front to back.
You should not see the Y from the front.

Isn’t the point of the “A” configuration to cause the gas streams, when they hit each other, to create a wide/broad flame for greater reflected illumination?

To help line up the burner,
I use a dab of pipe dope on the threads of the burner base
to keep the acetylene from leaking around base of the burner.

I like my burners "snug" on the base but not so tight I can't reach
in there with my fingers and line up the flame when lit.

I have a burner that makes a great flame but is crooked relative to the Mangin.
Slight twist of the burner lines the flame up and it stays put.

“A” is correct for getting the most light and is the way they were originally aligned. However, with whatever is in there in place of a reflector, it is doubtful that the headlamps will produce enough light to drive by no matter what you do.
