If you want the forum software to keep track of which threads you have already read, it pays to log in first thing every time you enter the forum.
If you have already read all of the threads in a category, but they aren't all marked as read, you can mark them all as read with one click by selecting "mark topics read" in the location circled and arrowed in the attached screen shot:
