hands-on how to videos
Call it my pet peeve but when I watch how to videos I hate seeing hands with nasty fingernails that appear to have enough grease under them to pack a wheel bearing. I'm no candy-a** soft handed wimp and I do my own work on my Model T (and Model A), but my hands and nails don't look like the ones I see in the videos. If my hands & nails looked like some I see I couldn't eat, hold my wife's hand, or pet my dog.

"Candy-a** soft handed wimp" Sir, that's exactly what you are. Worrying about another guy's dirty hands look like? Kinda makes me want to puke.

Tommy, I am on your side. If their hands are that dirty making a video, where else have those hands been?
No problem with dirty hands when you are working. If you want a video, cut the nails and wash your hands. Might even get a haircut.
And it doesn't matter if it looks like you have worn those pants for three weeks in the garage.

Re: hands-on how to videos
The unsolicited advertising and misinformation in some vids bothers me more than seeing a little dirt. I appreciate any well meaning person taking time to video a shop procedure and then share it on the forum. The dirt is often an unavoidable part of the process, and wearing gloves or 'washing up' before taking the pic/video is not always convenient. Just my opinion, jb

Re: hands-on how to videos
Yeah, it's not the dirt and grease gotten on hands during the work that grosses me out, it's the black crap under the nails and in the wrinkles/ ridges that has obviously been there and probably stays there. To each his own but no need to go 'round like Neanderthals.
I guess I watch at least as many or maybe more rebuild and/or restore videos as most guys, so I've probably noticed it more. I'll just avoid watching some of them from now on.

Re: hands-on how to videos
What would your hands look like while you were doing what they are doing in the video? If they had dirty gloves on would that bother you too?
You are *uming that everyone of them don't wash and clean their hands afterwards to eat, hold a hand or pet a pet.
The past is a great place and I don't want to erase it or to regret it, but I don't want to be its prisoner either.
