Late July, 1926. Noted in letter on moleskin paint on engines and what pieces are nickel plate. Mates with the timeframe that the Vaporizer carb was standard, late '26 just as the 1927 model year was beginning.

The encyclopedia only says "late in calendar year 1926". How late? October? November? December? Dunno.

The vaporizer carb started July 19, 1926 and I also read "late" 1926 for the bolts. Just trying to pin point it further.

July 26, 1926
Benson Ford Research library records on finish of the "1927" year engine, the dome head nickel bolts are noted. Were used on many places on the engine, manifold bolts too. (studs were gone by this time).

Dan, regarding the July 26, 1926 letter. Do you think this is the start date or it may have taken some time to inact this switch of policy?

Re: Rounded and nickel plated bolts dated?
It is a date in the records. Don't know beyond that, would assume so, perhaps earlier. Typical for the 1927 model year Ford, would think any T with the Vaporizer as std. would have the fancy bling on the engine with the green hue paint too. Of course the assembly branches would have to have stocks, these went out pretty fast at the last year of the T, production wasn't an issue, sales were
Think Edsel had more to do with it than anyone in the co., as Pres. he was aware of the lost of sales to Chev. Did all he could to get dad to at least "improve the T' in late '25, so by late '26 anything to boost the looks, colors on all cars, and accessories, and fancy engine bling under the hood was Edsel's doing IMO!

Re: Rounded and nickel plated bolts dated?
I have what I believe is an August of 1926 vehicle. It had remanence of nickel on a couple of head bolts. However, no indication of nickel on water in/outlet. Has studs in block. Just trying to figure it out as I go along. As Johnny 5 says ,"need input"!
Thank you,
John.

That's typical of the nickel gone after 95 years! The water inlet outlet ones get wet and rust, but you can tell if original as these nickel plated steel '26-'27 'cap screws' as Ford called them are dome head, unlike regular hex head bolt.

Re: Rounded and nickel plated bolts dated?
I have an original 1925 engine that has the coil box on the head and all the 1926 items, except the vaporizer carburetor.
Another friend has one made about the same time period that has all the same items with no holes drilled in the block for the transmission cover bolts.
There must be many similar minor variations.
