Model T Ford Music

Post by Lyndon » Fri Feb 05, 2021 9:09 pm

Was there ever any songs dedicated to the Model T Ford. I am very familiar with Henry's Made a Lady out of Lizzy. This was just recently talked about in the Model A club magazine. There was also the song, Me and my Oldsmobile. And even the one about the Maxwell. Mack's Swell Car Was a Maxwell. As popular as the Model T was, you would think there was a song about the great Model T. I would like to know if there is.

A bunch were written about the Ford T.

Most famous likely ‘Little Ford Rambled Right Along’ and on the You Tube link below, my favorite:

‘On the Old Back Seat of the Henry Ford’.

The best way is always the simplest. The attics of the world are cluttered up with complicated failures. Henry Ford
Don’t find fault, find a remedy; anybody can complain. Henry Ford

This isn't specifically about a Model T, but mentions it.

I’ve original sheet music for “On the Old Back Seat of the Henry Ford”. Still gets its original use from time to time; here it is on my piano.

Recently, I’ve been listening to “Lord, Mr. Ford” by Jerry Reed, written about the T. Interestingly, there’s a one-line break in the song where he sings “Come away, with me, Lucille” which was a song written for the Oldsmobile Curved Dash if I recall.

Well, I thought I had a pretty good collection of sheet music, 78s and downloads until I saw Dan's list. I need to go shopping!
Here's links to my sheet music and 78s.

There's a good last line in Whispering Jack Smith's Gimme a Little Kiss

I'll even take a Rolls with a chauffeur man,
But gimme a little Ford, and I'll give it right back to you

Here's a Model T song that I wrote many decades ago. It is sung to your favorite Beach Boys tune. Alas, never published or publicly performed, just for your amusement.

Tom Loftfield
Brevard, NC

FOUR-BARREL ON THE OLD MODEL T

Cruising down the highway doing ninety-an-hour
Burning up the gasoline, oil, and tires.
Here comes a policeman, but he can’t catch me,
‘Cause I put a four-barrel on the old Model T.
Go little Model T
Go, go, go!

The Warford transmission is shifting just fine
The Ruxtell rear end helps me up the inclines.
The Highway Patrol is out looking for me
‘Cause I put a four-barrel on the old Model T.
Go little Model T
Go, go, go!

The Frontenac head gives me get-up-and-go!
What the top speed is, I really don’t know!
Cruising down the highway doing ninety-an-hour,
Good Lord I love this Model T’s power!
Go little Model T
Go, go, go!

Hassler shock absorbers make it smooth as can be
I don’t spill a drop of my coffee or tea
I’m kept quite cool by the open air breeze
Lordy above, I love Model T’s!
Go little Model T
Go, go, go!

The windshield is down, I’m a driving fool.
The Western Auto water pump keeps it all cool.
The sheriff is hiding by the old oak tree,
‘Cause I’ve put a four-barrel on the old Model T.
Go little Model T
Go, go, go!

There’s a funeral ahead, I pull out of the way.
The hearse passes by and I really must say
A Cadillac’s fine for the dead we agree,
But the living all want a sweet Model T.
Go little Model T
Go, go, go!

The brass is all polished and the black ‘namel shines
The seats are not leather, but nobody minds
It’s the spokes that are flashing in the sunlight you see
‘Cause I’ve put a four-barrel on the old Model T.
Go little Model T
Go go, go!

Rocky Mountain brakes are not needed by me.
I don’t want to stop or to slow down this T.
I’m hell bent for leather, as it really must be,
Since I put the four-barrel on the old Model T.
Go little Model T
Go go, go!

Cruising into twilight I wave my good byes
To cars, trucks, and tractors that I’ve left far behind.
Here comes a policeman, but he can’t catch me,
‘Cause I’ve put a four-barrel on the old Model T.
Go little Model T
Go, go, go!

My favorite Beach Boys tune?

Here’s my favorite Model T song from Katie across the nation day 1. The music starts at about the 1 minute mark.

"Gonna buy me a Model T Ford." Absolutely the best Model T song I've heard. On Youtube go to T Model T Movie 2017. It's a video about a tour in Australia. Well worth watching. The song starts at minute 15. Bob
