Are These Model T or Model A Replacement Valve Guides ???
I just got these and cleaned them up. They came with some Model T parts. The internal measurement is 0.312 inches, standard size for a Model T valve stem. They are two piece with matched halves. The long ones are a little long and the short ones are a little short for the valve guide length in a Model T block. Looks like they would work for a Model T. How would a person install these in a block?

Model T guides rarely have to be replaced unless they are broken. I have mine K lined to suit the modern valves I use. When one has to be replaced a modern Chev guide is used.

Yes Model A. Normally would have come as a matched pair. These look used. The longer ones would be standard length for Model A. The shorter ones after market of some type. I would just toss in scrap bucket, you can buy new ones.

Steven - Model T valve guides are one piece, and the straight stemmed T valves can be pulled right out of the solid one piece guides. Model A valves however, have a valve stem that is "mushroomed" at the bottom and would not be able to be pushed into or out of one piece guides like Model T straight stemmed valves and solid one-piece guides. That's how you can always tell Model A valve guides like yours because they are split in two halves. Pretty obvious I guess, but I don't think anybody mentioned that difference so thought I would,....FWIW,.....harold

All 8 model T valve guides in the closed chamber blocks are one piece, part of the one casting which is the block. The guides are not removable. They are machined in place to take the valves. Replacing any that need it involves the block being machined to take whatever guide is being used as the replacement. Re lining the guides to take a K liner is a cheaper option. Some original guides are drilled so far off centre on the casting bosses, I believe there may have been factory corrections made by re-machining those blocks to take a replacement guide where necessary.

Allen - Thank you for getting me "straightened out" ref stock Model T valves and valve guides. Thanks to you, I did a bit more research which I should have done prior to my post above. Thanks to you, I have learned that the integral cast & machined in block valve guides when badly worn, or when valves with oversized stems are installed as a repair, or as a larger valve "upgrade", the factory stock in-block valve guides can be reamed or machined oversize and Model T valve guide liners (per Royce Peterson, I guess they are referred to as "liners" or "bushings") can be installed to accommodate the larger diameter valve stems. Thanks Allen for the correction and I hope I didn't mislead anybody,.....harold

Harold, no need for the apology. I had to go and check a couple of blocks myself to be sure. I do remember that when a couple of guides in a particular block broke out the sides when being k lined, the machine shop fitted two replacement guides in that block. It is no great problem if the shop has the capability to do such work. From memory they used a small block Chev guide.
