Is the part supposed to be brass?

Post by Mopar_man » Thu Mar 04, 2021 11:28 am

The bracket that holds the carburetor rod seems to be made of brass on my 26 steering column. The other one is steel. Is this common? Should I paint it black and call it a day? Ha!!

If your car has a rod through the center of the block to the carburetor, such as a Holly NH or Kingston L4, that is not the original connection. The original carburetor was a Holly vaporizer and the linkage went over the top of the head. So you can use either brass or steel bracket. If you want it black, paint it black.

The vaporizer was used on all production beginning July 19, 1926. That's just eleven days before the 1927 model year, so only the approximately 65,000 1926 Fords made during those eleven days all had the vaporizer. Most of the millions of 1926 Fords before that date came with a Holley NH or a Kingston L-4.
The inevitable often happens.

I forgot about that vaporizer Carb. It also looks nice. So I'm going with a repop. I'll paint it black. Shhhhhhh No one tell.
