Today, I was helping a friend make some repairs to a '26 rear axle in preparation to install a new set of Sure-Stop disc brakes on his Touring car. We were re-installing the E-brake cam lever & shaft that is actuated by the hand brake lever.
To confirm that we had installed the Hub Brake Cam Lever correctly, I crawled under my '26 Pickup to take a look. Man, was I surprised that my shaft was not totally in the hub. It was only held in place by the brake rod that goes to the front. When I pulled the clevis that shaft was easily pulled out, but the cam itself was not there- it was still inside the hub. As you can see, the end of the shaft is splined, so I assume the cam itself is splined too. I have never run into this type of splined Hub Brake Cam assy before.
My question- Since I won't disassemble the hub until Sunday I would like to know in advance what to expect. Assuming the Cam is not damaged, and the parts mate back up at the splines, does anyone know how they are attached so the assembly will stay together?

I"d be grinding a chamfer on the end of the spline and doing the same to the cam, so I could fill the V with a good solid weld. Don't forget to set the cam on the correct spline so the correct orientation between the cam and the arm is preserved.

Fixed. I inserted the shaft into the hub, tapped the cam into onto the shaft, checked the fit into the bushing, then welded it. Just for piece of mind, I removed the other wheel and secured the cam onto that shaft too (welded). Just trying to stop a disaster.
