New use for lacquer thinners.

In my T model puncture repair kit I carry a tin of patch cement. The tin has a nice inbuilt brush in the lid. The last 1/2" of goo went thick, so I had to buy a replacement can.

The can and brush are very handy, so I dug out what I could of the thickened goo. My go to medium for any cleaning job is lacquer thinners, so I half filled the can and let it sit. With some judicious work with the brush, and a second dose of thinners, the can is as clean as a whistle, ready for filling with some Nev-r-seeze lubricant.

I use MEK to thin contact cement. It seems to work well unless the cement has gotten very thick & close to solid.

Yes & not just MEK. Both lacquer & paint thinner are banned along with MEK. We use all three in the business & had to bring them in across the state line from freer states. They do sell CA approved substitutes but they do not work well. We are now out of CA and can get what we need easily.

California's chemical laws are just flat silly (yes, I know I live there)... you now cn't buy liquor over 120 proof... knocking a few sipping whiskeys, finer rums, ec right off the bridge deck. Fortunately it's only a 2 1/2 hour drive to other states where such silliness does not reign, so when things run low I make the occasional bootlegger's run... My granddaddy-in-law (who was a rum runner back a century ago) would be proud!

Tho I'm not quite sure I'd drink MEK...

Me too Allan. I buy it by the gallon! I've posted man-a-time of how much I rely on good ol' lacquer thinner for all sorts of stuff, mainly grease cleaning. But it's an excellent paint stripper, so user beware!
