Compilation of Stan Howe Emails on Rebuilding Ruckstells

Post by CudaMan » Wed Jun 02, 2021 6:16 pm

When I was rebuilding my first Ruckstell, I pestered Stan with email questions and he was patient enough with me to provide answers and guidance. I put all of the replies and notes together into a Word document and am attaching it here. This is not meant as a substitute for the excellent MTFCA booklet or Milt Webb's excellent booklet, but some may find it useful. Remember, at the time Stan was still occasionally rebuilding Ruckstells as a business and he felt obliged to stand behind his product well after delivery, so for his customers he chose to replace many otherwise useable wear items with new as standard practice.

A unit that someone builds for themselves might get by with more used parts and still give many years of good service. The MTFCA book provides guidance on allowable tolerances for re-use of used parts. :)

Thanks Mark! Stan's old ruckstell website, like most things on the internet, was archived and is still around.

Thank you guys for posting the information and links.

I wish the club book had more information on allowable teeth wear, not just if worn replace. For a novice not knowing what they are looking at and not knowing what new should be, it becomes a judgement call with nothing to base on. That is were people like Stan really shined, they knew what it should be.
I know the voices aren't real but damn they have some good ideas!

For those of you that may not have Microsoft Words, I've transformed it to a PDF document (ohh and a picture of late Stan "the man" Howe just slipped in at the end of the document :-)

I took the contents of Stan's website and converted it into a handy PDF as well.
