Sandblaster Cabinet Upgrades

Post by jagiven » Thu Mar 14, 2019 1:42 pm

Somewhat off topic; Any recommendation on a trigger-less nozzle and tip size for glass bead blasting?

We have been using the FIL’s air compressor and his small media cabinet. We have been busy media blasting the internals of the kid’s tranny before reassembling. The small cabinet really needs some upgrades. So far, we replaced;

• The single incandescent bulb in the back corner with an LED light strip along the front wall, so you actually see what you’re doing.
• New Lexan panel was installed with some type of paint protection film used on aircrafts to keep the panel from etching (working nicely so far).
• Added a cyclone vacuum dust collector.

What I want to do next is add a pneumatic foot pedal and new nozzle. The hands gets tired from pulling the trigger for so long. I have found an affordable foot peddle. But the nozzle has been eluding me. Any recommendations on an affordable nozzle, and tip size?

We are using a 2-stage air compressor is rated for 125 psi. When running blaster setup it is holding at 80 psi. I do not know at what cfm. The compressor is old and getting worn out (Ingersoll-Rand dated 1933, only known repair/rebuild is the 5hp motor about 5 years ago). Probably needs the head rebuilt, but the FIL refuses to do such, as it still runs.

Any recommendation on a trigger-less nozzle and tip size for glass bead blasting?

Jason,

I have and been please with a sand blasting unit from the company listed below. They sell complete units and/or components (including foot pedals). You can request a catalog or do a google search to get more information.
Best of luck,
Dom

I came across this picture the other day. It doesn't help answer your question but it does look pretty cool.
