I have this bracket on the front of my 1927 engine and I have not been able to figure out what it was for, any ideas?

More than likely for a water pump, the belt looks loose enough to have been around one. Jim

Or someone added an idler pulley for the fan belt

Either way, it is not original "T", you remove it.
