26/7 touring Windshield frame question

Post by Mopar_man » Thu Aug 26, 2021 9:29 pm

So I'm going to start putting the windshield together soon and I was looking at a car as a model. Take a look at the rubber gasket in a grove on the bottom of the frame.

Now take a look at my frame. There is no grove in the frame. Did the nickel ones not have it?

I would think all the original ones had the groove. You may have a repro there.

I didn't know that Ford had nickel windshield frames in 26-27. Maybe an aftermarket one?

My ‘26 has a groove with a small hole to start the rubber seal. Have not seen original windshield frame with plating.

I have a 26 Roadster and a 26 Touring. The Roadster does not have the groove. It has the windshield it came with when I bought it. The Touring has a frame I bought as a repro from Chafin's. It does have the groove. Anyway, I don't know whether any of the originals came without the groove.

The plating looks more like chrome than nickel to me. I don't think Model Ts ever had any chrome plated items on them.

You can tell by the lack of groove.

Speedway Motors sells a '26-27 windshield frame in chrome. It doesn't appear to have the groove.

I betting it's a reproduction. Yes it's chrome along with the windshield side supports and hardware. Could be for making a speedster. Thanks for all the info.

It would be just fine for a topless speedster.

The posts would also have channels to hold the seals on the sides. https://www.modeltford.com/item/7840B.aspx
I know the voices aren't real but damn they have some good ideas!

My '27 touring car has the groove. I too don't remember ever seeing a T with a plated windshield frame. I also agree that the frame in question looks more like chrome then nickel.

So I was looking at the Lang's catalog and saw that the frames and Side supports are not chrome but the wing nuts and other parts are. Someone must have chromed my Side Supports and frame.
