Change from distributor to the standard commutator

Post by jaybee47 » Fri Sep 10, 2021 11:37 pm

How difficult will it be to return to a conventional commutator from a distributor? Is it simply removing the distributor and alternator and installing a generator and timer along with new wiring and coils and coil box?

Alternator can be used with coils. Do you have a working magneto?

If you have a coilbox, all you need is available from the vendors, but I would go to one of the coil rebuilders for coils rather than buy new ones.

There are alternative timers available, mechanical ones like roller or Anderson flapper style, and electronic ones. Your choice, your expense.

Others will have other ideas.
