Bumpers on 24 Fordor

Post by ClockDoc » Wed Sep 08, 2021 9:52 pm

I would like to install bumpers on my 24 Fordor and was wondering if the ones sold at Lang's for the 26-27 would work. I was going to use the split bumpers on the rear. Has any one done this?

I haven't done it, but I seem to remember reading somewhere that the '26-'27 cars already had holes in the frame for the Ford made accessory bumpers from the factory but the earlier cars did not. Another issue might be that the front and rear crossmembers were different on the late cars and the spare tire equipment was probably different.

Most pre-1926 bumpers mount different around the front fender braces, which changed for the 1926/26 cars. Even with a spare tire, I would use the full crossbars in the rear. Given the length needed for the arms, full crossbars might give better support/protection/bracing.
I know the voices aren't real but damn they have some good ideas!

Have you ever started a T with bumpers, Hand crank one? I should of said, if you have you may not want bumpers, it is almost like climbing in a Center door T.

I have a 24 Fordor that came with bumpers, they were made by Lyon, the frame must be drilled and there is a special nut that holds the bumper to the headlight bracket they are full bumpers front and back, the rear bumpers use the battery holder bolts and the body to frame bolts, the fronts stick out far enough that cranking is not too bad. i have a 26 with bumpers but the frame was drilled for them,i don't know how you could fit them to a 24. i have posted pictures of the 24 bumpers so you may want to look back and the picture of my 24 is on the forum pictures under 24, it is dark blue.
